I loved the Magical Express. We booked through Southwest a few years back. Stayed at a Disney Resort and loved not having to worry about getting our luggage or needing transportation to and from our hotel. It was one of the reasons we stayed right at Disney. Hated to see it go.
Always used Magical Express and very disappointed it’s not available any more. It was on time, reliable, drivers were always kind, considerate and cautious while driving. Don’t know how we’re going to get to the property this year. Please bring back!!
I depended on the Magical express for my handicapped son in a wheelchair. Never had to worry/stress about getting to/from airport to resort and vice versa. Very disappointed that now I have to pay even more money to get a handicapped accessible van to get us to and from. Looks like this will be our last year ever going down to Disney 🙁
I miss the Magical Express bus too for the same reason, kid in wheelchair. I know that accessible van rentals are insanely costly. Luckily, I discovered a nice alternative. One stay the magical express bus missed our stop and the concierge called Mears who sent over an accessible wheelchair taxi. Reloading ramp. Check into that before spending so much on a rental van.
One of the things I liked was not having fool with luggage to and from the airport! MAgic Express was the first taste of a magical experience at Disney! Shame greed took over!
I agree, I think Walt’s dream is slowly being eaten up by greed since Disney is now nickel and diming every aspect of each trip. People save for years to be able to make a trip to Disney and now it is so far out of reach for many because of the services Disney is now charging for and for the services they no longer offer.
Very disappointed that Disney no longer provides bus from airport to hotel and back. LOVED that we could give our luggage to the airline in Boston and not see it again until it was in our room. With 3 suitcases, three backpacks to hold our disabled daughter’s medical supplies, it will now be extremely difficult for the two of us to take all of that through the airport and push a wheelchair too. We loved Disney and the ease of traveling made it so much easier. We are thinking we should start looking more local and making shorter multiply trips where we don’t have to bring so much with us at a time.
Disney, you have changed so much to quickly that it seems like it would be easier to go to some where else now. We have been loyal Disney fans for the last 20+ years sometimes going multiply times and it breaks our hearts, especially our daughter’s (she asks almost every day when we are going again) that we may not return. If we go back it will be for a shorter length of time and probably only once a year or every other year.
Magic Express was such a differentiating thing. The ability to check in at LaGuardia Airport, and just know my bags would end up in my room…. know that I had a reliable and easy transport to the hotel…. it was magic. NO OTHER TRIP, TO ANY DESTINATION had that. Zero. Now that I have kids, this would have been even more appreciated. This might sound weird, but I actually consider how I’m going to get to the hotel now. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth every time. Before even contemplating the new pricing and removal of other disney detail.
I am kind of shocked, okay, not really that Disney never considered extending the monorail to Orlando International. That seems like a huge no brainer to me and would probably become the most used monorail transit system outside of Japan and China.
I’ve only experience the Magical Express once and loved it. It was so nice to start the magic as soon as you got off the plane and onto their bus. I hope it comes back asap.
We used Magical Express on multiple trips to Disney. Walking down to the Magical Express loading area and being greeted by cast members was the start of our vacation. I can only echo all the other comments provided. It was easy, it was quick, it was convenient and a service that completely differentiated Disney from any other vacation destination. It was great while it lasted. Bring it back, please.
I’m commenting as the first person to have used the Mear’s Bus (The bus service that took over for what used to be “Disney’s Magical Express”). We visited in February. The service was terrible. We had to pickup our own luggage and bring it to where you pickup the bus. The buses were plain. Nothing Disney about them. The free gift was a pair of cheap “Mears” advertising sun glasses. Again nothing Disney about it. There was NO Disney or any other kind of entertainment on the ride from the airport to Disney. There were TV’s on the bus but they were not turned on. It was a silent 55 minutes ride to Disney. The driver had signs posted that he was expected a tip when you arrived at your hotel. Once at your hotel the luggage doors of the bus were opened. You picked out your own luggage and took it inside to register and then you carrried your luggage to your room. Nothing about the service is magical anymore! And now you have to pay for it, it’s no longer free. Disney you blew it with this one! The magic of a trip to Disney always started at the airport when you boarded the “Magical Express” but now you’ve even don’t away with that.
Just a FYI, Disney didn’t facilitate “Magical Express”. It was done by an outside company that is called MEARS. They are the same company that currently offers the service for a fee. Since Covid started, there was no luggage handling now or then.
We rented a car the last 2 trips to Disney and the lines were extremely long in the rental car lines. The first time we waited 6 hours in the enterprise line. The second trip, 2 hours in the Dollar line. Then to not know where the tolls are and not having exact change. I am not sure we will be going back to Disney World.
We always used magical express, and loved it. This last visit we used Mears transportation. It worked just fine except it made a little extra work on my part and cost $182.00 for 6 people, that’s money we could have spent at Disney parks.
The magic did start at the airport. Not worrying about baggage when we got off the plane was the best. We just got on the bus and started our magic vacation. Magic from ALL the cast members. Magic from all the parks. Magic from a few lousy relatively cheap perks for people who stayed at the resorts. Magic that basically insured a carefree almost perfect vacation. A vacation you knew you would repeat over and over and over. It’s why so many of us called Disney World “home”. That’s why I went back to Disney World year after year. FOR FIFTY YEARS. Yes fifty years. I’ve watched it grow and get more magical with every visit. But in the last 2 years someone at Disney has pulled the plug and quickly drained the magic out of my “home”. I probably won’t ever go back. Heartbreaking for me. But even sadder is that the individual responsible for pulling the plug won’t see any of these comments nor do I think he would give a damn. I know this thread was about Magic Express but went off on a tangent. Please don’t delete. Said it before and I’ll say it again, Walt is rolling over in his grave!
Magical Express with the luggage service was a great perk. It made the trip so much easier!!! It would be worth a fee if they brought it back. I can’t imagine traveling with children and having to drag luggage
Absolutely agree, I would pay the extra fee, especially for the luggage handling feature. I’m on vacation and the convenience that brought our family was as special, if not more, than on property magical hours. Please Disney, bring the service back, as it was truly magical to your fans!
This is where I think Disney missed a prime opportunity to charge for Magical Express. They should have added a fee the same time they started to charge for hotel parking. Then no one could have complained they were paying for something they weren’t using.
We ALWAYS used Magical Express. It is part of Disney magic that helps make a special trip right from the start. It simply needs to come back. It’s part of what Disney is supposed to be.
Sadly we loved the Magical Express and the bag service as part of the total immersion WDW could offer. Once I checked the bags at our airport we were on vacation and the Mouse took care of everything. We’ve been visiting at least once a year for 15 years (up to 5 trips in a single year) and had APs for about 5 years.
Sadly, we had to switch to Universal for our trip this summer. We justified the higher cost of WDW with the ME, the Fastpass, and the extensive parks. Two of those three things that added value to our WDW trips are now replaced with paid services.
I don’t think WDW will miss us, but I know I’ll miss them.
As an older guest, the Magic Express has been a necessary part of our trip. I’m not particularly enthusiastic about trying to navigate any future trip.
You can probably thank Bob Chapek for eliminating the Magical Express because in his mind it didn’t make a profit. He is clueless about how it has effected Disney and the financial impact eliminating it really had. Disney has really just become an expensive Six Flags, it has lost all the Magic that made it Disney. I know inflation influences rising costs but Chapek has made decisions that has hurt the brand, hurt the Cast Members and has out-priced families that were loyal to Disney. People that have not been to Disney since the pandemic and have recently went back are leaving disappointed in their visit. At least Universal doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not unlike Disney that pretends to be Magical and a place where Dreams Come True, which isn’t true anymore.
Always used Magical Express and very disappointed it’s not available any more, we would have gone for a paid version of magical express if it was available. The biggest factor, the luggage service, its huge when your traveling with kids not having to deal with all the luggage. Since DME is no longer, I doubt well stay on site again, its was one more perk gone so well stay on property. Last couple trips we stayed off site but I think that will be standard now for us, maybe even staying at Universal now.
We loved Magical Express! Our vacation started after we checked our luggage in at Philly Airport. The feeling comes over you, it’s on, vacation time. We got off the plane and right to the ME bus. Didn’t have to wait for our luggage at baggage claim, didn’t have to wait in car rental line, no paying for gas and daily parking fees, no driving in traffic or getting lost. We did early check in on the bus. When we got to the hotel we got off the ME bus and right on the Magic Kingdom bus. No dragging luggage to stand in line at hotel check in and then go to the hotel baggage to have them hold your luggage until your room is ready. We got something to eat in the park and our vacation was on! We got a text when our room was ready, we would take a break at the park and go back to the hotel right to our room and our luggage would be there! Rest for a while and then back to the park.
Now it is much more of a hassle with additional planning and added expenses and stress. Why they would get rid of something so popular and convenient that was actually an incentive to go there is beyond me. Unless they really don’t want more people to go there (which sounds stupid I know). I don’t know if I will be going back anymore after 10 vacations there over the years, it just seems to be too much planning and less relaxation.
The ending of Magical Express was one of the worst decisions Disney could have made. My family are from Pennsylvania and make at least one trip every year – with all the changes over the years new Disney Resorts, fast passes, and dining plans, one thing you didn’t have to worry about was transportation to the hotel and back with luggage taken right to the room. The convenience when traveling with children was great. We are going to Disney in June and the amount of time and decisions for picking transportation is mind boggling – need a car seat
for toddler and then have to handle own luggage. Disney is going downhill , after this planned expensive trip might need a break. In the future middle class family might not be able to afford it.
Just went to Disney, this past week. We used Mears. We had no issues. I miss the Disney Express. But the Mears was much faster, and there were no lines. The Disney Express was all part of my Disney Vacation.
Magical express was great, but the bag service once off the bus to the room took over 3 hours. I eventually went down and got my own bags. I’d opt to load and unload my own bags from the bus. The ride itself was great.
At this stage Disney needs to offer free transportation and free genie+ as perks of staying onsite. It’s the only way they can bring back some pre pandemic perks.
Just another example of fixing something that wasn’t broke. Magical Express added to the anticipation of arriving at Disney. Gave guests an opportunity to relax after a long plane ride (for some), enjoy a little Disney entertainment along the way before arriving at your chosen hotel.
We are gutted booked to go in august fir the 50th and we was ment to get this free in our package and now we have got to find a alternativewhich is now going to cost us more money which we didnt budget for and was looking forward to using this as we have before .
We took mears last week. No souvenirs, no proper directions. We were left wandering and looking for them for over half an hour after we landed (almost midnight by the time we found them). Directional signs pointed in 2 different directions, it was a disaster. First bus people were very rude. Ride back to the airport was fine, driver was super kind and courteous!
I’m wondering if the survey has to do with the fleet of Minnie vans that have been spotted recently. 🤔
I agree that they missed their opportunity to just charge for the service. The company that handled the bags went out of business, but that was a huge part of the convenience! Our flight arrived late our second trip with our little kids and hauling our luggage to the ME was enough that we never booked a late flight again where we would chance missing the luggage feature. I hope they can figure out how to bring both back. I think many would gladly pay for it at this point.
It is absolutely insane that Disney did away with this transportation service. With that said, we will not be planning any Disney trips anytime in the near or distant future. We will seek other destination vacation spots. Thanks Disney.
I too am going to greatly miss the Magical Express. My husband and I have been DVC members since 1999. Three other family members have bought into it also. We are Disney people. I fly down two or three times a year.
I fly Southwest out of New York so at first the Magical Express didn’t include me. Once Southwest signed up with Disney, I have used it for every trip. It was so easy and simple. My luggage was dropped off at the airport and I didn’t have to worry about it at all. When I checked in to my room, my luggage magically appeared.
I am now 72 years old and partially handicapped. I need wheelchair assistance to maneuver around the airports. There is no way I can handle my luggage by myself.
The new train system is not going to work for lots of us. From what I understand we have to get our luggage and children from the airport and onto the train. The train will make a stop someplace near Saratoga Springs. At this time, we will get off the train with our luggage and children to board a bus to take us to our resort. Then, we once again get off the bus with our luggage and children when we arrive at our resort. In the meantime, the smiles have disappeared off all of our faces and some of us are even crying. This seems like too much aggrevation and way too much wasted time.
I would gladly pay a charge for using the Magical Express or incorporate it into our DVC fees. I am flying down to WDW on April 3. I have booked a limousine service to transport us.. It won’t be the same. The Magical Express service was dependable and the drivers were courteous and kind. I will be a nervous wreck until we get to our resort. I don’t feel any MAGIC at the moment. I hope you all have a Magical day and I hope my input helped.
“The company is unaware that guests were unhappy about the service being cancelled”.
Apparently Disney does not monitor any social media, bloggers or other sources of fan voices. If they did, Disney might be more cautious about some of their recent decisions.
