Ummm. Ok, I did not see the performance live. Just watched a video of it now and I can totally see why this is upsetting. Also, after all the recognition Latin community was getting, if they were going to change anything in the song, why put an American rapper in it? I felt like that was just a slap in the face. (Sorry Chris) The reason everyone feel in love with that song was because of the energy, lyrics, togetherness of the family, and this performance had none of that. What a shame.
What people seem to be missing is that Disney has nothing to do with the Oscar performance. The Academy is 100% responsible for any performances that occur during the ceremony. The Academy has a long history of strange choices. Anyone remember the year they did interpretive dances to all of the best score nominees? The composers and studios had nothing to do with that decision, either.
The performance at the Oscars of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was a disgrace to the movie itself. How dare you have that ole’ nasty “she-cow”-“Megan-the-Heffer” in there-rapping. She turned that children’s movie song into some adult crap-rap!!! Our children didn’t need to hear her calling all of the Female Hosts, “Hoe’s”. But thank God that “dog” had on some clothes for this award show performance!!
I agree. They ruined Lin-manuel Miranda’s masterpiece with that terrible rendition of We Don’t Talk About Bruno. They should have stuck with the original lyrics.
This was billed over and over as a live performance of the song by the cast from the movie. That lasted 1 verse and then the train wreck occurred. If you promise one thing, do not deliver something else. Only one verse of the actual song was sung then altered lyrics and rap about the Oscars. Somehow I think Lin Manuel missed the Oscars, not because of sick wife, but because he heard.they we’re going to trash the song.
“Original Cast” says it all. That was not the “Original Cast”. They made an extraordinarily distasteful decision to style such an amazing song by an amazing composer and an amazing Original Cast by using anyone extra. It completely ruined the magic of the musical and lyrical genius that is that song. Shame on the organization for allowing it to go that direction.
My little girl and I waited for the Bruno moment…thank God she feel asleep first! It was awful! How many kids were ready to dance only to be horrified by this nasty display!
Uhhh it definitely wasn’t Megan Thee Stallion that ruined it. It was the singers—most of them were frustratingly off-key. I actually think Megan carried the song, and her remix was pretty creative TBH. Everyone saying she ‘ruined it’ is just a hater who never liked rap/hip-hop to begin with. I’m really tired off seeing people hating on female rappers like Megan and Cardi for literally no good reason at all.
Comments for Disney Just “Ruined” ‘Encanto’ With “Terrible” Megan Thee Stallion ‘Bruno’ Rap
Olivia
It wasn’t Disney. It was the Academy that decided to add other performers in and add her own part. The Academy ruined it.

typically, when the songs are performed at the Oscars they use different artists and different stylings. This is not unusual.

You are dead on.
I love this movie.
And the soundtrack, my 9 year old daughter and I watched it at least once a week and listen to the soundtrack several times a week
So sick of the vulgarity.
Megan had an opportunity to do something great and she failed.
Will should have slapped her azz!
I’m so disgusted by her version.
Damn clown!
