Been on this slide many times. You don’t “hit the bottom”. There is always a cast member to make sure guests are going down “on your bottom and feet first”. Somebody wants free $$$$.

Same here. Agree on all points. Have stayed at OKW many times. This injury doesnt seem possible.

  2. Judy

While it is unfortunate that she got hurt. I would wager to believe she was not the only user of the slide that day, but the only injury. This sounds to more like user negligence and she did not use the slide properly.

Sounds like another frivolous lawsuit. It’s unfortunate that she got hurt, but you can’t sue someone every time you hurt yourself. I’m guessing there were even disclaimers saying that people use the pool at their own risk. All of those points that the lawsuit is alleging are difficult or impossible to prove.

I can see where she could get hurt from the force of the slide exit. I ride it in February and was surprised by the force as you hit the water and how shallow the pool is. My niece and several other kids toppled and were dunked as they exited. One child hit his head so hard that medical help was called.

I would be willing to bet the plaintiff is obese I’m which she is not very well balanced so causing her to land wrong due to not being able to keep her balance
Let’s blame Disney for my ability to not keep my balance

      1. Dii

Obese people can keep there balance. I think she landed and twisted her ankle badly. Walked on it and more damage was done done.

Although I am sorry someone was hurt – I believe you use the slide at your own risk and the number of people who use this slide annually without fault I’m sure is exponentially more. It seems to me that these people may be looking to take advantage of the company’s wealth. If I sued every tine one of my kids got hurt or sprained or broke something – accidents happen and unfortunate as that may he – not all are worthy of a lawsuit.

I’ve never used or even seen this slide, so I can’t judge. I have a family member with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, and it’s no joke. The pain is extreme, the skin is either hot or cold to the touch, and it can make walking difficult. It’s nerve damage. However, how is it known that it was caused by the injury, and not by the surgery itself?

So some ambulance chaser is out to make a quick buck.

  7. Edward

No doubt this slide has untold 1000’s of guests go down it each year, and this idiot has to sue over a sprain.. If this really was a significant injury, the lawsuit would be for much more money. Sounds like a soft tissue injury, which is extremely difficult to prove.

I have had a botched surgery for years, going on 7 , and have been going down the “rabbit hole” of trying to get diagnosed with CRPS from that surgery. That she can be injured in 2019 and already diagnosed with something that takes years to prove is laughable. She obviously found an ambulance chasing lawyer with his own physicians on board ….you went on a pool slide and landed , maybe you were above the weight limit , maybe you have weak ankles , none of that is Disney’s fault.

So sad that disney is being attacked again.i stay at Old Key West all the time. Its basically for children isn’t it. Was there a weight issue? Its sad she got hurt, but sometimes people try to make a fast buck. Thats the way of our world now

$100K? It will cost more than that to defend the lawsuit. Disney will pay it while admitting no wrongdoing as to not to set a precedent.

I am a little surprised that there aren’t signs stating that everything is at one’s own risk.

    1. AH

Disney rarely if ever settles just on principal. Every Diseney pool I have been to in over 20 trips there had the “own risk” sign up with the rules sign.

  10. Connie

Although I don’t agree with the lawsuit Bob can certainly afford it! Glad he isn’t using my money to settle!

  11. Aaron Cobb

This is just a money grab. I hate it when people do this crap. Whatever happened to people just taking responsibility for their actions.

  12. Lindsey

I am no fan of the woke Disney, but no one put you on that slide and shoved you down it that worked at Disney. Own your own decision, it’s not their fault you don’t know how to come out of a slide.

  13. Kim Calderon

Even though Disney Parks are “unsafe and fail to instruct guests on proper ride usage” I’m pretty sure with a hefty payout they’ll be visiting again. Make sure to wear your bubble wrap next time.

  14. Bob cheaprick

Good for her, Disney should close that slide when the pool is drained!

  15. James David Bowen

People hurt themselves and want deep pockets to pay…it’s not the lottery lady. Take some responsibility for yourself. Jeez

  16. Tyler

It sucks that she got hurt but at every single water slide at the hotels they have several signs with proper riding procedures and ride at your own risk. I am not a small person and I love going on the slides and in the several times I have ridden I haven’t gotten injured once. Nobody in my family has. I have a brother who is over 6” tall and he hasn’t been hurt by any of the slides. This just screams cashgrab and it is getting old.

    1. Chris w

Wow your brother is more than six inches tall, huh? Lol

  17. akg55

Forgive me for saying this, but what does the plaintiff weigh? Maybe she was over weight for the slide and did not belong being on it to begin with?

    1. lrak

i was thinking the exact thing.

Ambulance chaser attorneys are bottom feeders. Or parasites. These types of attorneys are just as gross and disgusting as the clients they’re representing.

I worked at Disneyworld the first summer ’72 and was so impressed with training/orientation for full 2 weeks! One of the First statistics we were told was percentage of guests who enter Disney PLANNING to sue!! I remember being totally shocked that such a LARGE number of people were so consumed with monetary greed…that the magic of the park was lost to them! And, fifty years older and wiser, it STILL shocks AND DISGUSTS me!!
