I just came back from a stay at the DL hotel! I am a huge Disneyland fan and I have always stayed on property at either the Grand or DL hotel since 2002. I also stayed 2 nights at the new Westin in Anaheim this trip because DLH and GC were booked. I have always loved my stays! That being said, I was so incredibly disappointed In the DL hotel this time! The rooms are cute but need a refresh! They have taken away Magic Mornings which used to be a huge perk of staying there. They also have limited house keeping! They come in every other day to do a room refresh and then on off days, they come to get your trash and provide you new amenities. Due to COVID they say??? I guess if they come in your room briefly, it doesn’t expose them?? Anyways… neither was done to our room.
I came back to the room around 7 pm and nothing had been taken care of by housekeeping. When I called down they explained to me their new procedures. They said I should have been told on arrival(I was not) and that supposedly it’s listed on their website. Due to the lack of dining options all over Disney and the difficulty of getting dining reservations, we ended up leaving the property to get dinner the night before. Never have had to do this before either! The left over food sat all day not being thrown out! Yuck! They also do not have room service up and running so it limited things even more for us. We usually order room service early before we head to the park, but could not. We figured we’d get breakfast at DCA, since that was our first park! But no!! There were only two carts that had 3 options which were plant based or Vegan! Great for some but excludes the rest of us! Not one place to sit down and dine. One cast member told us that they haven’t brought back half their employees. It’s crazy and you feel it! We wandered around looking for all our usual spots but they weren’t serving breakfast! It was 9 am!
Bottom line: They are charging more for everything and yet, you get far less!! At $700 per night, which wasn’t a view room, I expect more from Disney then this! CEO’s profits are huge while long time, loyal guests are not getting the Disney treatment they used to get! I usually can’t wait to go back to Disney, but not feeling like I really want to. We did buy Genie+ and paid in excess of $200 dollars extra a day to get LL passes for the three main rides. This did get us on more attractions but I was constantly on my phone and I felt like it just wasn’t the same!
If I go back, I will most definitely stay at the Westin! Beautiful, accommodating and a short walk or Uber ride to Disney!
