I have been to WDW over 100 times and only in the past few years have ride breakdowns been a major problem. I believe this is directly related to the lack of or reduction in ride maintenance. The parks have reduced staff significantly over the past few years, and most of the staff have not been rehired. This is due to the change in management focus that is now on generating revenue, and the easiest way to do this is to reduce staff. At some point a park guest will be seriously injured and the lawyers will be called in.
