Shocking! Its time for Universal to step up on security and team members to be more watchful on locker areas . Guest want a safe and wonderful time in the park not worrying about stolen items.
HOW were the phones stolen? Phones are usually in a pocket/bag or someone’s hand. People are usually only without their phone when sleeping so I’m very curious how they snatched the phones.
Mine was stolen on January 30th, within 3 hours of entering the park. I had a backpack with a smaller pocket on it, and my phone was in it. I think it happened while standing in line for the Transformers line. Pretty sure it was a couple standing behind me on the ride. It’s easy to close on on people in those lines and block anyone’s view if you want, especially after your line moves inside the building. Universal needs to make people aware of this and caution them about securing their phones. People could also use tracking apps which may help.
Say it with me: FANNY PACK!!-It may not be “cool”-BUT with it tethered to your front or side its a bit LESS LIKELY to be “broken into” because of your awareness of it….
Or how about THIS little tid bit-LEAVE THE PHONE AT HOME-or in the Hotel Room…at Universal you do not need it like you do at the Mouse House…
I am sad for those who had their phones stolen. I would love to have heard how they were taken…
I’m glad you quantified your “leave the phone at home” comment. Annoyingly and sadly you need your phone for EVERYTHING now at Disney. It really takes away from the enjoyment of going.
I am a fanny back user of 40 years: my kids made fun of me but the grandkids don’t. Never had an item stole but I also don’t let those fools get up against me. 6ft people, 6 ft!! As for leaving it home – parks have gone techy – ride times, maps, etc. Are on the app as well as restaurant reservations and food ordering!! I hate the app maps but that is the only reason my phone is with me.
Without leaving my name since I’m not yet sure what the thieves plan to do with the stolen phones, I can confirm it was a pickpocket (or pickpockets, not sure if it was a single person or a group). Stolen right from my backpack side pocket while walking around Hogsmeade at Universal. We spoke to security and apparently they had been previously warned by Disney that a pickpocket was on the loose….but they didn’t bother to alert guests…
For those saying leave the phone at home, that’s not always possible if you have a mobile ticket, need to Uber to/from the parks, need detailed online menus for food ordering due to allergies, are monitoring ride wait times, need to stay in contact with others throughout the day, etc.
Phones were stolen from backpack pockets and from people’s pants pockets. Actual pickpocketing. Immediately after being stolen, the phones were disabled so the phone locator apps didn’t work. It was being reported by victims all over Facebook. It’s always a good idea to protect your valuables at a theme park. There’s no reason Universal should have had to tell guests this.

Same group also hit Disney Springs before heading to Universal.

Girls, keep your phone out of your back pocket. It’s only there to show off your butt. Pickpockets paradise.

Mine was in my backpack. I was one of those victims.

This article would have been more useful had you told us HOW the phones were stolen. Lockers? Pickpockets? Laying them down on something?

My park pass was on the phone. Also needed it for the Uber app to get a ride back to the airbnb. Leaving the phone at home isn’t possible these days.

What’s funny about this article is that I only found 2-3 sentences about the stone phones and the rest was gibberish 🤣🤣🤣
