I was a former cast member for Disneyland. I used to drive the the bobtail and semi trucks. I covered for the company once, and I’m sure it was swept under the table. If I told you how some of the food was delivered to the different locations, you would throw up. If you would like to know more, you can contact me if you like.
My toddler got very sick from playing in one of the water playgrounds at Downtown Disney almost 20 years ago.
I tried to file reports so it wouldn’t happen to other children and was told it wasn’t possible to get sick from that because of the system they used.
Funny how all the signage now clearly indicates that it is indeed very possible.
I had food poisoning after eating grilled salmon from California Adventure Wine Country Trattoria. That night was miserable! I went back to tell them but it was a week later and they just said, “Oh I’ll make sure the manager knows”. But I highly doubt they passed on the info. And even if they did, it was a week later. I will never eat there again. The food wasn’t good anyways and it got me so sick, that I still get nauseous even thinking about that restaurant.
My family and I have been pass holders for 20 years. Have eaten thousands of meals in Disneyland and DCA. We have never gotten sick from the food, so it seems strange to us.
I ate at the River Belle Terrace and spent the next day in the parks first aid station I was struck down with terrible and debilitating food poisoning!
Are you sure you all didn’t just overdo it and your bodies couldn’t handle all the grease and sugar? Pretty sure that place has their butt covered big time to make sure stuff like this doesn’t happen.
Um, NO, they cannot “cover” the potential for food poinsoning. If anything in the food storage or handling process is not done correctly 100% of the time, contamination or spoilage can occur, resulting in food poisoning. It is ridiculous to say that, just because they are “Disneyland”, that they have it “covered”. A member of my group got severe food poisoning (hospitalized), and we were able to trace it SPECIFICALLY to the ham on the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou (unequivocally, no doubt at all).
I was a restaurant manager for years. Safe food handling has to be a top priority in the kitchen and the staff has to know and practice it. It’s up to management to make sure it is done every day through out every shift. I have also worked in a Disney kitchen at a Disneyland Resort. Food temperatures were checked at routine times during each shift and a record is kept. This includes temperatures of food holding units. Cleanliness was also a top priority. These practices were a normal routine done through out each shift by the crew. Everyone was watching and working together to make sure the kitchen was operating safely and correctly. Chefs and supervisors worked with the crew and made sure that safe food handling was being done through out each shift. This is how a professional kitchen works. I was proud of Disney and the Disney kitchen I worked in. In any business, weak and lax leadership creates a weak and lax crew. It all starts from the top leaders. Basically, “Who’s minding the store?”
Always report food poisoning to the county health agency, so they can document when and where and then identify patterns. Of course the company will lie and try to cover themselves.
We also were in Disneyland on oct 2021 and got food poisoning from the lobster rolls. Missed a whole day of disney thank goodness for insta cart delivery

I was at Disney World several years ago and ate at Wolfgang Pucks small walk thru dining venue. I was sick for days…..stuck in my small room for days…….was still so sick when I got home that my potassium level was dangerously low and I was admitted to the hospital….I had eaten some rotisserie chicken is what caused it. I am sure I notified the place I ate
I was diagnosed with food poisoning after eating at Disney World in 2015. We had been at Disney for 72 hours and had utilized the dining plan so all of our food had been exclusively Disney. I had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital. We were supposed to sail on the Disney Fantasy, but the ER doctor would not clear me to cruise because I was so severely dehydrated and needed IV hydration for several hours. We are DVC members and Disney comped us one night. We ended up needing to spend several more days before I was well enough to travel. We were charged full price by Disney to stay. It was suggested by one of the resort managers that we rent a car and leave the resort to find a cheaper place to stay. We, too, were advised we could file a claim, but were discouraged from doing so. Disney cruise line was amazing in helping us to reschedule our cruise.
I also got the worst case of food poisoning about 5 years ago at DCA. I ate at the Mexican restaurant the author mentioned and have never had any food in either park since then. I’m sure they sweep all that stuff under the rug because after all it’s Disney but based on the comments it happens more often than people think.
My husband got so sick at Disneyland he was throwing up in the tiki hideaway and could not get to a bathroom in time. He was hotel room bound and I’ll for 4 days after that. Disney does not care. I reached out a number of times and no one cared at all.
Beans regular or refried are the source of most food
poisonings. The is due to bacteria growing very quickly on beans that are not used then reused and reheated the next day. Chicken and hot dogs are next. Usually stick
to pizza or salads to be safe
Just letting people know, food poisoning can take up to three weeks to actually show symptoms. So something someone eats one day can just be the catalyst that creates the response and not the root of the poisoning.
Agree with you. Most people who aren’t in the food business don’t realize this. They just think it’s the last thing they ate. Which is most of the time not the culprit.
Disneyland 2 years ago. Daughter food poisoning so bad we thought it was appendicitis. 2 days in hospital while in middle of our vacation week. She recovered fine and still has her appendix. Yeah.
To be ill for so many days makes me think that food poisoning was not the culprit, but rather a rhinovirus. The rhinovirus is passed by small children, and can be devastating to adults. It hangs on for a week or so, whereas food poisoning lasts 24-48 hours.
EPCOT – Australia exhibit (years ago). Family of six all very, very sick with extreme vomiting. Filled up sinks, toilets and bedding and carpet took hits. Disney denied, denied, denied. Take and keep samples if you plan on reporting.
I got sick a few weeks ago for our resort quick service. I had a sandwich that I only ate about a third of and for the next few days I was back and forth to the bathroom. It was awful. I am lucky that I could keep things down like water or soda to stay hydrated. I think if I would have finished the sandwich I wouldn’t have been so lucky.
Is it food poisoning or people just not washing their hands before eating? Did not see one person or the author comment anything about hiw good their hygiene habits are…
I work for my state Health Department and want to let you know that if you ever get a food poisoning you should go to the doctors and have them treat you. You want labs done. This is the best way for the Health Department to know if it was truly a food illness. Also please give a complete 48 hour food history. Most people don’t know but some food illness have a 48hr incubation period. Also let them know if you had drinks with ice as ice is a vector for food illness.
I am not knocking your claim of food poisoning. I am offering an option. Sometimes people think it’s food poisoning when it is actually the norovirus or the rotavirus. Considering the Disney parks cook their food en mass, if it was food poisoning, more people would be affected. There would be a larger amount of people complaining that they ate bad food and it would be traced to one establishment.
If one person is sick with the norovirus, they can pass it on to possibly just one person (ie: touching same door handle, railing, tray, etc). Even if that one person contaminates 5 other people, what are the odds that those 5 people ate at the same restaurants in a single day. It would be harder to trace back to one establishment. Both food poisoning and the norovirus share similar symptoms, so they could easily be mistaken for each other.
I have gotten super severe food poisoning at Disneyland in Anaheim… It was the worst I or anyone had ever seen.. Had to cancel a cruise next day(no refund) because I was so severely dehydrated I fell down a flight of stairs before we sailed and I said no way get me outta here and went home…
