This will be interesting to watch what happens to price and demand. maybe I am missing something but, Seems like Disney only wants to push their version of Star Wars. Battu etc. Why couldn’t they do some prequel voyages with Luke, Leah, Obi wan, Hans Solo Etc? Rey and Fin are cool but to a lot of people that could actually afford galactic star cruiser they are not the real Star Wars…. Seems like they are making comic books to canonize their new creation.
Two things – First, Disney committed to this “new story” pretty heavily when they build Galaxy’s edge as a new planet with it’s own story. Inherently when you are talking about a story that takes place over 60-70 years, they had to pick a specific place in that timeline to set the story being played out in GE.
Disney has also been pretty clear about what they consider canon, and it has included comic books for a long time. It has also always included the story of GE. After the EU/Legends purge, every hard story point was canon. Every novel, video game, comic book, and park added canon elements to the Star Wars universe. Personally, I think it is great that they are including elements at the park in the wider media to make it really feel like a part of the story.
They can change the video, but you still can’t polish a turd. SW fans don’t like the Disney SW movies. Basing this cruise on them was a bad idea. The Lucas movies were better and Disney keeps trying for you to accept their failure. This will be a flop. I can advise them how to fix it, and I’m sure you have ideas too. Too bad our voices won’t matter.
I think there are plenty of people who consider themselves Star Wars fans who are fine with 7-9 and can afford Starcruiser. I think many are waiting to see the real experience before making a decision. You will either see it fill right back up or clear completely out after the first real videos and photos come out.
Also, I think Disney is playing the long game with Star Wars. The prequels are a great example. OT fans hated the prequels when they came out, and now there is a generation of Star Wars fans with money who genuinely enjoy 1-3. In the same vein, I think 10-15 years from now, there will be plenty of fans who genuinely enjoy 7-9 because it was Star Wars when they became fans. Are they the best movies? No. Are they as bad as most online SW fans like to say? Nope.
Disney continues to double down on the sequal era (most fans have already moved on!) and the on the characters Disney inserted in the Star Wars universe. I fear that based on how badly sales of all Sequal merch did in the last 10 years or so (untill they move away from the sequal era) they will see little to no financial returns on the multi millions invested dollars already spent! It’s like slapping a fresh coat of paint to the Titanic while the rest of the ship continues to sink!
That’s a great point. When you look around at what guests are wearing at the parks or just in general life, you hardly see anyone with the Disney SW characters. When you go to the gift shops, the big sellers are all the Lucas SW merch, NOT the Disney. Are they that ignorant and pompous that they can’t see the forest through the trees? Trying to shove this garbage on us and tell us is great is similar to the U.S. govt. and the music/movie industry doing the same thing. Here’s a shi#$ sandwich to eat, trust us you’ll like it. Oh, it’s the only thing we’re serving, so eat up. I’ll starve and so will Disney if the followers will finally wake up and make them eat their own sandwich.

They announced their plan B is to replace all the actors with cardboard cutouts and lower the price to $199 per night.
