Has nothing to do with wokeness, its old technology and ET has no relevance to today’s youth, the ride is in a place called kid zone, its not there to cater to you gramps, get with the times
Old technology that looks way better than the trash screen rides. Sitting in movie theater watching a little video while you’re chair jiggles isn’t worth a $100 ticket.
Why no thought ever to updating it? I don’t mean making a 3d screen ride or anything, but I hate the whole second half. It is an unpleasant assault on the senses and makes ET and his whole civilization look like a bunch of goobers. The forest and bike ride and taking off into the sky are great, but once you go to outer space the ride goes in the toilet. They should re-do it using the same style and type ride but make it more like the movie where ET takes off with his family at the end. After seeing his planet and “friends” the ride makes me root for the government to catch and vivisect ET.
“You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means”
And you use it so much in fact that you have to alter its appearance to what, not get shadowbanned by the deep state social media elites?
“Olds these days….everything has to be dated and relevant to only them, anything else is new and confusing in need of a return to an idealized version of something that only ever existed in reality for a staggeringly small and privileged demographic.” Get off it Mx. Everyone prefers to have things that align with their preferences, this isn’t something new in humanity and it has ZERO to do with what your factional interpretation of “woke” is.
I LOVE the ET ride and hope it never closes. Not because it’s ‘from my generation’, or because it’s ‘old’ and somehow superior for that single fact. It’s because it’s a family-friendly, physical, non-screen-based dark ride. It could use some dusting up to keep it relevant for another 30 years though. But it doesn’t need to be torn down because it’s old no more than it needs to be deified only because it’s old.
Rode ET for the first time ever just recently and it would be a shame to get rid of it. It was a fun ride and held your attention the entire time. You don’t have to have even seen ET the movie to appreciate the ride. It’s a good nearly all ages ride and something Universal can call it’s own classic ride.
Every time I make it down to Universal Orlando, E.T. is always a ride I make a point of going on. It has been thay way since I was 15 when I started going there with my parents and 25 years later, it’s that way when my wife and I take our kids. It still gets to me. Haven’t they done away with enough of the classics? E.T. should stay and a whole new generation of kids should be introduced to the movie.
After the way that Universal shut down the Hollywood and Japan versions of the ride without telling/getting permission from Spielberg and have had to create an entire new park for Super Nintendo World because Spielberg threaten to remove his money and his IPs from the parks if E.T. was touched, I don’t think the ride is going anywhere anytime soon. It may undergo a refurbishment at some point, but I think the risks outweigh the benefits of Universal getting rid of if.
Thought this ride sucked when the park opened and still do. His whole planet thing seems stupid. We’re supposed to think this is the alien civilization that is Way more advanced than us?
Been a few years for me. Do they still bother with trying to do the name thing that never seems to work?
E.T. the movie was and is great but this ride has never made sense after the Earth part. Would be all for an update that fixed that but otherwise, would love to see something better go here.
If I had to choose between Back to the Future becoming a Simpsons ride or this thing, I’d have been all for this getting a Springfield overlay!
My boyfriend and I went to Universal Orlando a few years ago and I didn’t know anything about the E.T. ride. We went on it, and WOW, this was my favorite out of EVERYTHING at Universal! We rode it two days in a row! It was super magical, amazing, and I would be distraught if it wasn’t there anymore. I LOVE The Simpsons, but I wish I would have made it to Universal to have experienced the Back To The Future Ride.
We thought it was magical and we especially loved the end (which i won’t describe so as not to spoil it for any who might nor have ridden yet). I know it’s all about cheaper shake the seat virtual reality rides these days but i hope they leave this one alone. It is so special as is.
I too think it needs an update but I want to throw in a different idea no one here has mentioned. 3-4 months out of the year retheme it for the holidays like the haunted mansion at Disney land. Take the ride and change it to “Stranger Things” with a ride through the forest that takes you to wills fort and instead of being transported to ET’s home you go to the upside-down. Imagine the fun!! This way you can keep the Contract, the nostalgia, and give that space a boost!! imagine the Line!!!!
I’m not trying to sound stupid, but I didn’t even know it was there. I have been to Universal so many times. My grandma has a picture on it in CA like 40 years ago…It definitely isn’t advertised well.
If Universal could get rid of it they would have already have done so. Spielberg made them sign a contract that forbids them from removing E.T. from Universal Orlando due to his love for the movie and because they already removed it from Universal Hollywood and Universal Japan without his consent. If they did remove E.T. at Universal Orlando they risk losing all of their Jurassic Park/Jurassic World rides as he owns those IPs as well. Universal would never take that risk and so E.T. remains. But there’s not really any reason why they can’t update the effects and animatronics.
Jerrassic park is not going anywhere, it was announced on inside the magic that there is another sequel to jerrassic world called Jurassic world dominion, to be released June 10th this year.
It is my favorite ride. Please don’t remove it. It’s bad enough you removed Shrek. Universal needs to keep it. My 5 year old granddaughter can’t wait til April to ride it.

Kids these days, it’s that w o ke attitude, everything has to be new and relevant to only them, anything else is old and tiresome in need of an exit.

The final scene is actually I believe I heard it is in an old comic book about E.T. and it us kind of like a sequel

We love ET. We have tickets for next week and that is the one attraction my family always looks forward to, even as adults.

I was just there last week & I went on E.T. 3 times!!! My favorite!!

I hope they don’t remove this ride. My oldest daughter rode it when she was 2 years old and she is now 20. So please keep it as a ride.

I heard that it is like that because the ride was based of a book or comic book, where you get to see E.T home planet

ET was my least favorite ride in the 90s when I was younger. I loved all the other original rides. Jaws and BTTF being my top two.
It’s honestly a shame that Universal can’t get rid of it anytime soon.
