This is actually false. At night we shut it down and the whole place makes a slow hisssssss as all the air seeps out of the pneumatic lines. The dolls continue to move for a little while, albeit much more slowly, which is really creepy to watch. But they’re not left on all night.
I worked Small World at night for several years doing electronic maintenance. Long story short, the animation of the dolls and everything else is OFF all night. This is most obviously for safety reasons if an animation mechanic needs to work (or ME). Moving machinery is a glaring violation of OSHA and California safety regulations. All moving animation and props on any attraction have to be locked out / tagged out in the OFF state whenever anybody is working within an attraction.
I don’t know where you got this glaringly false information, but it is patently NOT TRUE.
Never liked this ride, anyways. The song is an annoying earworm that burrows into your brain, and won’t leave. Would love to see this ride replaced with something new and non aggravating
I call absurdity. I have ridden the ride at D-land a few times and seen some of the dolls completely still. Obviously they have different systems that can be turned off for whatever reason. And if the dolls did keep moving after hours, um, how could they be fixed? Oh and what a waste of energy. Someone out there has some bad vibes with the ride.
