After the final drop on the Tower of Terror, the lights never came on and the sound shut off. We sat in silence and complete darkness for around fifteen minutes. Some teen called out, “Is this supposed to happen?” Everyone laughed. Finally we heard voices and a large door to the left opened and three cast members had to physically drag the ride vehicle, which was on tracks, out the door. We found ourselves in a backstage area that looked modern and nothing like the Hollywood Hotel. lol. They led us up a staircase and gave all the riders fast passes, including my whole family, even though I was the only one brave enough to go on the ride. Everyone was laughing about the experience. This happened about 20 years ago. WDW was friendlier back then. Getting stuck was an adventure.
We just came back from WDW a week ago and a lot of the rides kept going down. Bell’s Cottage and Splash Mountain were completely shut down. 7D Mine Train, Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean were down for extended periods of time (one we had lightening lane for so we got shafted there). Under the Sea, Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth went down while we were on them and Soaring did after we waited in line for about an hour. It was the first time in 46 years of going to WDW that a ride went down while I was on it but I never expected so many to in the same trip. And lets not even talk about that abhorrent Genie+ that crashed more than the rides. They need to go back to the paper tickets. Overall it seems like they’ve been cutting a lot of corners and it really shows. Not just in the ride but in the perks and attitudes of the staff as well.
I echo the other comments here. Just took our kid to Disney World for the first time to relive the magic, but the magic was gone. Rides broke down constantly, we were stuck in the dark on Haunted Mansion for almost 30 minutes with an 18 month old who was starting to freak out. Very scary experience. They also kept the air conditioner off on many rides so they were hot and claustrophobic. The food was maybe one grade above dog food and extremely overpriced. We paid $18 for 3 coffees with coffee grounds in them. The lines were extremely long and the parks were way overpacked to where you sometimes could not walk down the streets. I’m sorry but I cannot ever return to the Disney parks after this experience. Looking forward to quality experiences at the parks of the future at Universal Studios.
