My son is completely enamored with Louisa. He really takes to strong (in many senses) female characters. It also helps that Louisa gets a better, or at least more memorable song.

    1. and what a message! I think it stands up to We Don’t Talk About Bruno, too!

So typical of Disney. Talk about strong females but instead gives you frail waifs who can leap tall building in a single bound and throw huge men around. It was refreshing to see a Luisa that not only was strong but LOOKED it.

    1. Yes. Breaking the mold continues and I’m here for it!

Speaking of merch…that Lego set…they BUTCHERED Luisa. My kids had no idea Isabela and Maribel were with Luisa, and not some strange character we didn’t know. They were outraged Lego got her so wrong. Apparently Luisa now wears a lavender dress, has pale skin, spring green eyes, and zero muscles or height. She looks teen Sophia the First. What, three brown girls in one set just couldn’t be done? Shame on Lego.

Dude, Luisa is frickin’ awesome. I’m helluva feminist, so I’m glad she turned out the way she did. I’m a simp, honestly. Gosh, I’m so gay. She’s probably always going to be my favorite Disney character.

I love Luisa. She’s honestly the best character. She’s so human and her burdens really speak to me. Everyone who had to fight to keep her looking like she did chose an excellent to die on. She’s awesome

    1. Completely agree!

To be fair, since her strength is magical in nature she could be any size and still be strong. Like Superman, even if he had a pot belly he would have Superhuman strength. But I do like her final design and it is very telling they did not have any merch for her…companies have always been out of touch. Even more so in putting so much on Isabella’s pretty flowers and dresses…the whole point of her part of the story was how that perception was her burden. But I find it odd people are upset Mirabel is on more stuff…shes the main character. It takes about a year for merch to go from design to released product so we will most likely see Luisa merch closer to after Christmas.

yes! yes! yes! Your point regarding Isabella is what went through my mind too. Her whole journey and the point of her character “being yourself and trying out new things instead of trying to be perfect” is totally forgotten by that damn merch. But it shows that Disney still thinks girls just have to be pretty and buy pretty stuff even though their movies tell otherwise. It’s frustrating
