In Seattle—trying to BOOK for a visit in December 2021–Can NOT see the Park Reservation Calendar!! FIRST TIME trying to book DisneyWorld. Today I am Extremely NERVOUS to book Hotel + Airfare + buy DisneyWorld tix—if we can NOT get Park Reservations….HOW can their system be down during the Holiday time?? WHEN will the system be back up and running again?

Tyrone, you are trying to schedule a trip for Dec 2021 or 2022? If 2021, good luck…I’m going tomorrow thru Saturday and have been having nothing but trouble since August when I first decided to go to a concert in Orlando and decided to do a few days a Disney first…hotel reservations at a Disney property werent available, so I booked at a Disney good neighbor hotel. Park reservations werent hard but restaurant reservations were tough…Ive been checking pretty regularly to see if I could get reservations at 2 particular restaurants and somedays there arent any reservations available at all. Good luck.

I’m sorry but I HATE Genie. I’m walking around watching my phone all day instead of enjoying the experience.
Love technology but hate this. It’s destroying the fun of Disney – anyone agree?????

I feel like that’s more on you if you are looking at your phone the whole time. Nothing says you have to be on it the whole time to fully utilize it. I would just be on there if you are trying to figure out what to do next. Same as if you were to be looking at a map

YES you must be on a phone with WI-FI the whole time to see tip board, make a reservation, check que status! It’s a real pain.

That doesn’t mean you have to be on it the entire time. That’s your personal choice. No one said you have to have the screen on for it to be working for you. There are tons of ways for it to work for you without you looking at it

I feel the same. When I used it with my grand kids, I felt like everytime they saw something they wanted to do, I would say “sorry, not right now we gotta be at xyz in 10 minutes.” I loved disney without the fast passes. So much more enjoyable! Could do what you wanted, when you wanted, ride lines were manageable too. And not zig zag in a rush all over the park.

      Agreed!

I totally agree. Gone are the days of being able to ride anything at random or when YOU want to. Eat when YOU want at any time. Casually stroll through and take in ALL that theaming. Now it’s like making a dentist appointment, a painful experience for EVERY SINGLE thing you want to do including looking/through overpriced merch. NOT worth the money or my time any more. It’s just not enjoyable.

I agree. I used it at the end of October and felt las though I was constantly on my phone. I miss the regular fast pass days, but planning all at once was far preferable to this. I remember the rides and attractions, but not the overall experience.

Most likely down due to a major outage with AWS. Thanks, Amazon!

Awesome that we let our leaders make all these monopolies while ignoring small businesses and the middle class. Personally I am glad Genie + is down and I can only hope it is not accepted as the consumer has to say enough. Bring back the Fast Pass.

    2. I am so sad that Disney World has completely destroyed the whole experience and vision of Walt Disney. People are tired of you making everything so hard and EXPENSIVE. I realize you out lost money last year but so did everybody else. It seems like you’re trying to retrieve all that money on the backs of the guests. I saw today that people are cancelling their reservations for Star Cruiser because it is not worth the money. Your new President doesn’t have a clue about what Disney is about. He has raised prices on EVERYTHING in Disney World and not just small increases. it’s 25 to 50 percent increases. Wake up and get someone who knows and loves Disney. You are now excluding a huge percent of your guests. The average family will NEVER be able to afford your exorbitant prices. This is NOT what Walt had in mind when he built Disney World!!!

I was just there and wasn’t able to use the My Disney App because it wasn’t compatible with my older phone. I had to rely on others in my group. It’s fine for finding out wait times but you also had to use it for quick serve dining if not you were in for a very long wait at the one window that was available for people with out the app. Needless to say we didn’t use Genie +. There were plenty of people who were will to spend the money. Disney is making a killing on this.

I wondered how the elderly get to go. Many like my mom, do not use cell phones. What are they to do? Another question: if you don’t have $ for a phone with capability, what do you do to get around? They don’t rent phones in the parks.

      1. Jordan

My question is, if you can afford to travel to disney and go into the park and do all these things, how can you not afford a simple phone at walmart or something? That doesn’t make much sense since phones and plans are WAY cheaper than my trip lol

We have been to DW three time in 13 months. The time during COVID was the very best experience because Genie did not exist.
Chapek is quoted as saying that the Genie has met with overwhelming satisfaction by visitors. NOT US. Our visit January 2022 will be our last. If you can avoid it, don’t buy Genie plus. We won’t.

For this and many other reasons I continue to be most satisfied by not having a smart phone. Still use a flip phone. Been to Disney many times over the years. Never purchase advance tickets in case plans change. Simply walk up to the ticket window and purchase upon arrival. Walk around, see the sights. If something is a long wait… continue rooming around and enjoy the energy of the moment.
