Just making me more sad this happy ride is changing for no other single reason than a couple of dozen Twitter Toddlers. Name me 1 single person who was genuinely offended by that ride. Just 1 – then they’d have a point.
It’s not the ride that offends people, it’s the movie it’s based on: Song of the South. Disney has been trying to hide this movie and with today’s climate they have no real choice but to change the ride. I’m happy for the change because I’m tired of talking to my 7 year old about the racist Song of the South. Next, he wanted a copy. Not cool
Did you even see the movie?! The movie takes place after the American Civil War and abolition of slavery. There are no slaves in the movie. The cast defended the film. It’s about Uncle Remus telling Br’er rabbit stories to kids. 30 years and it’s still and now you’re acting ashamed going on a ride about a rabbit outsmarting a Fox and Bear?! Good grief. Seek help. What’s next, you want to get rid of Haunted Mansion because it’s offensive to Dead people?! The Save Splash Mountain petition has 10x times more signatures then the ones that want it re-themed. If you don’t like it, don’t ride it.
Love this comment so much!! My thoughts, which yes I know no one asked for is, one less person in line sounds good to me. Also if you look to be offended chances are, you will be.
I love how white people are lecturing others on slavery and racism, the film isn’t objectively racist no, but it is a very sanitized version of history and it acts like Whites and blacks were living together in harmony when there very much were still laws that allowed racist policies like the Jim Crow laws and Song of the South acts like those don’t even exist and everyone sang kumbayah together. That’s why the film is considered racist.
It’s actually very much in contrast to Zootopia that is kind of addressing racism between the predators and prey and how one side demonized the other because of traits that they were born with
I love how black people, Latino people, Asian people, indigenous people, Polish people, female people, LGBTQ people, and disabled people think they speak for literally everyone else like them. As someone who happens to fall into THREE of those categories, I can assure you that you do NOT!
And yeah, yeah- Zootopia is supposed to be Disney’s “apology” for SotS. Too bad it focused so much on addressing racism and forced, dated puns that plot and developing likeable characters took a backseat.
Leave the theme alone. Find another ride to use and theme the princess and the frog. Sorry but Uncle Remus is part of history just like song of the south. I live close to the birthplace of Uncle Remus in Ga, and am proud of what my heritage has taught us. Winston Churchill said that if we don’t remember history, we are doomed 5o repeat it. What have we learned about in my southern heritage? Slavery is horrible and bad. How are future generations gonna remember this after I’m gone if we destroy history because it is offensive now? Not just the awfulness of slavery but also the Holocaust, Eugenics, vaccine preventable diseases, the trail of tears, war, indentured servants (my specific heritage), peaceful protest, riots, the list goes on. Think about this and stop being so politically correct. I’m sorry but stark history is NOT politically correct. It is fact and shocking. It is awful and MUST be remembered for the sake of future generations.
Huh? I thought SM (splash mountain) was turning into princess and the frog… Well that was a thing I thought would never happen ever (the ride without water not it changing themes).
