The ride is so much better with lights off. When I rode it one time with lights on the metal was so close it made you want to put your arms down and makes your think you are going to hit something. Of course your not, but after riding with the lights on I now know how close it is and I keep my arms in the ride and the ride is way better in the dark.

I’ve ridden with the lights on several times at Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Pretty cool experience!
