I’ve asked family and fans which Spider-Man ride they like best Disney’s or Universal’s. Everyone says Universal. In California, there no Universal Spidey ride. So for many of us in Cali, Transformers at Universal was the first time on one of those attractions. When wev went to Universal Florida, we thought Spider-Man ride was built after Transformers because it feels far more superior to Transformers. Many of us weren’t excited for another shooter ride at California Disney Parks. That makes it four shooter attractions (Spidey, Toy Story, Buzz, Millennium Falcon and Frontierland Shooting Exposition). Disney has too many screen-based attractions, Disney and dark rides. They need more rollercoasters but Disney is focused on safe family rides. If we want thrilling rides, we go to Knots Berry Farm or Magic Mountain and it’s less expensive than Disney.
Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott’s Berry Farm for The Coasters!
Nobody can complain about Universal Studios for relying too much on “digital screens vs animatronics” when Team Disney does the same thing.
I agree 💯 about Universal Orlando having the better Spider-Man Attraction (I can add that Life of Pets is better than Mickey and Minnie Runaway Train).
We need more Dark Rides everywhere (Omnimover, Flume, Train based).
And parks keep vomiting them out like they’re the coolest thing. Need more rides like ET, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, Spaceship Earth… you catching on? Throw in a coaster or two but don’t get carried away… pun.
Currently at Universal- F&F was beyond a shocking disappointment! Sick of screen rides – just a virtual game on steroids. A money saving scam for theme parks. I could use my phone and a vibrating chair and stay home. The current force facemasks during OUTDOOR RIDES is unacceptable to say the least. Nearly all viruses are CONTACT TRANSMISSIBLE BUT NO CLEANING IS BEING DONE. When we asked for a wipe to clean food from the Spider-Man ride hand areas we were threatened and told by a ride attendant we would be thrown out of the park
Kong was awesome.
Transformers was identical to spiderman. F&F felt like it didn’t work properly.
Fallon was average by today’s standards.
Gringots was again amazing.
Bourne too was incredible.
However Rise of the resistance has raised the bar to whole new level.
How has rise raise the bar to a whole new level, the ride system is the same as many of their attractions, it has a lift and a drop track, but that is already in tower of terror and in some parts their could have been more props and they could have used animatronics instead of screens.
Some of the attractions that use the same system is Micky and Minnie’s, ratatouille, and like I already mentioned tower of terror even other parks outside of disney use the same system.
In my opinion rise raised the bar just a bit, but not to a whole new level, and what about hagrids or velocicoasters they took roller coasters to a new level, because they show that you can theme a coaster, and what about the secret life of pets ride, it feels like they cared about the theming and physical sets. on rise when the storm troopers are shooting you or whatever, I think they could have used animatronics and maybe have a light effect and some noise for when they shot, I am talking about the scene where you go up the lift, but even in other parts of the ride they could have done that.
The problem with F&F and Fallon is that they are bad rides… not that they are screens.
I love the combo of practical and screen in both HPs, Spider-Man, Kong… and Transformers in Orlando is the best ride I’ve ever been on in my life.
If you do practical though, it has to be near perfect (like the dragon on Forbidden Journey) and you can’t let the ride degrade like JP has (which is one of my favorites for nostalgia reasons).
My family and friends are NOT sick of screens. They can have a magical effect. Its just unfortunate that the F&F ride is not good… and Jimmy Fallon is boring and very similar to Minions (and Jimmy Fallon himself is incredibly annoying).
Hagrid and the Raptor are both fantastic without screens (Hagrid is definitely superior as Raptor is really just a cool rollercoaster… and you can ride great Rollercoaster at lesser parks).
I would say Universal needs to keep the focus on dark rides and IPs. Also, rides for big guys are nice too… Two of the guys I go to the park with on a regular basis are 6’5″ 300lbs. and many of the Universal rides can’t accommodate them.
This is why I like Islands of Adventure over Studios. Studios is almost all screen rides. Islands has more coasters, water rides, etc. These kinds of rides don’t get as boring. Studios has just ride after ride of staring at a screen and getting splashed a bit or blasted with heat. I’m a passholder and get so I just can’t bear to watch Transformers or Minions story yet another time. Rides like MIB, Hagrid, Velocicoaster, ET, Mummy, Forbidden Journey, Cat In The Hat, Seuss Trolley, Dr. Doom, Hulk, I can ride again and again. I am so glad to hear the rumors that the Universal Monsters ride will basically be Forbidden Journey without the screens.
I wouldn’t consider Spiderman to be a screen based ride. I would consider Simpsons, Fallon, Kong and F&F to be the best examples of what guests are growing tired of. I could be wrong.
coming from a person who doesnt like roller coasters and can’t really do them. It was nice to be able to ride rides with my kids and enjoy them. so I was presently surprised that there were alot of options for me to have fun as well. so I glad they have of both worlds for all kinds of people
I am tired of and annoyed by the screen rides. The main reason – They could accomplish the save effect with holograms at this point. Tupac appeared on stage in 2016 as hologram and it was awesome. Universal could incorporate this newer technology and create these same types of virtual experiences but be much more immersive and tons more wow factor. The first staging area of Shrek is so boring – standing in a room looking up at 5 TV screens talking to each other.
Its just old played out tech. It’s time to step it up. I sure hope the new park has something new to offer.
Screen rides as a whole are a disappointment compared to rides like splash mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean etc. They just aren’t as cool. I suppose if you are new to theme parks they are cool but other than that they aren’t nearly as fun. Disney has been a complete disaster in the imagineering department because of this easy way out option they have.
I personally like the screen rides when they are incorporated although Kong and F&F are boring and are one time experiences only. I wouldn’t ever consider riding the Hulk, or Velocicoaster. I think middle of the road is going to please and work for the majority so they are still winners in my opinion. Love the hologram suggestion.
To be frank and blunt I agree with the majority ; My past experience was terrible at universal. The only thing that you get when you get to universal is a huge headache from all the screen movement. After a while you begin to fake the excitement, it gets boring especially after waiting those huge lines just to go stare at a screen it’s rediculous. We have tvs at home we can stare at, I hope they can soon minimize these rides, they seem outdated.
I mean the park’s mission statement has always been “ride the movies”, so you should expect screen based rides, that said they literally made two high end rollercoasters in recent years and there are tons of parks that have little other than rollercoasters. If you don’t like screen based rides you have options in and outside of Universal. I’m fine with bringing more screen rides just wish they were in the mold of Spiderman more so than other recent additions.
“Ride the movies” those were the good old days…great “screen” rides from Hanna Barbera and then Back to the Future. Feeling immersed in New York City in Kongfrontation, San Francisco BART experience in Earthquake.
I personally like all of the rides at Universal. That being said, my kids get motion sick on the screen rides, so we can never enjoy a full day at Universal once we ride a screen ride!!! I am hoping for more no screen rides in the future.
I love Universal for its screen based rides. That’s the whole reason I love going there. My favorite theme park because of it! Critics will always be among us.
They do keep up to date rides. Tell the critics bye. People don’t know what they want, if universal changes I promise they will criticize them as well. Leave my fav theme park alone!!!
I’m sorry but those in Florida can’t complain, here in California the park has become very basic and boring. We need true thrills like Florida with roller coaster additions or something exciting. I tossed my annual pass because the park became meh. Yea we have super nintendo world coming but who really knows what that will offer.
I think it’s too much. I would love for them to consider that alot of us are sensitive to motion sickness and most rides we can’t ride. It would be great to see a mixture of rides. Back in the day when Jaws was a ride it was great. Just saying you should consider everyone.
