Has anyone else been charged twice for Genie+ in one Day? Was having trouble with App on Samsung phone when booking Genie+ for Hollywood Park for 5 people. Has been difficult to get second $79.90 charge reversed. Using iPhone seemed to work better for using Genie+ from our experience.
From an app standpoint, that’s not too surprising. Most apps work better on a device it was created for, rather than a generalized version meant for the other 1,000 versions of devices available.
Disney’s app only works correctly with iPhone. I have a Samsung (s20, not an old model)) and it’s a crap shoot if you will be able to mobile order food. Since they updated the app for Genie it gets to the point of order review and then won’t load the screen or you refresh enough times to finally load that screen and then can’t pay because there is no way to add your payment method. Then when you try to go in to order the CMs keep pushing the app then act incredulous when you tell them that yet again it isn’t working. Dozens of fast food restaurants have figured out the mobile order, maybe Disney should hire some of McDonald’s app devs.
Very sad. We’ve been pass holders for decades. Genie+ has caused standby line explosion. Lightning pass scheduling delays are pushing everyone on the train to pass the time now ruining that experience.
Genie+ is an overpriced inconvenience. Spending ones day at the park staring at a phone screen trying to figure it out or get the app to work and not enjoying the Disney experience is no fun. Guests should be able to visit the parks without the need to be a slave to a phone. We need an escape from this, not more of it.
Totally agree, we’ve been in WDW resorts resort& parks since Dec w/family & leaving on the 4th. I’m the planner (& payor😱) and so annoyed how much I have to be on iPhone to get next ride not to mention being up super early on days we need virtual que. I’ve been coming to wdw for several times each yr (staying in wdw resorts 1-3 wks each time). This genie deal is CRAP & sucks the fun out of what I use to love. We all have annual passes & doubt we’ll continue with that or coming so often. Holiday here use to be relaxing now stressful.
So agree with you…well stated!
We have been annual pass holders for over 20 years and will not be renewing. Being on the phone all day with Genie has taken away our relaxing family fun! I’ll always be thankful for the magical Disney years!
I have 2 thoughts on the changes that have seen happening at Disneyworld in the past year or so with the elimination of perks such as the magical express, free parking at resorts, trams not operating, plus cancelling of entertainment and parades, and the elimination of 3 free fast passes and the add on of costs for tickets, food and genie+, so I feel for the first time Disney guest who will be in for a shock of what they are about to experience which is a watered version of the Disney magic but for the seasoned veterans of Disney who have planned and have multiple trips to Disney and knowing the changes and still go, sorry I have no compassion for your complaints, so you have no one to blame but you yourselves. The only way things will improve is to stop spending your hard earned money on the current way Disney has decided in their corporate way of doing business of ” less means more” money that is.
Ugh. First time my husband got to go to Disney was about 3 years ago. We will never be going back. It makes him sad because we were looking forward to Galaxy’s edge. But Disney has priced us out so immensely that we would have to save for years to afford a trip.
We used Genie two weeks ago for our 8 day park trip. Was a giant waste. 90% of the time no LL we’re even available. So you buy a product that doesn’t allow you use the product. At Hollywood Studios we purchased Genie and only had two LL available at 9 a.m. We went to tower and Genie says it was a 90 min wait it was 20. The system is garbage and a rip off.
We at one point requested a refund from guest service which gave us it. The worse was when you enter a park and maybe you get a LL pass but it’s anywhere from 5-7 hours from when you just got into park. We stayed on property and even had early access. It left such a bad experience that we are thinking of skipping Disney for a while.
Exactly. Poor LL availability is pushing everyone onto other venues such as the train, crowding them out and ruining the experience. If you have small children and it’s 4 hours to the next LL, where are you going to go? Small children are not compatible with standby lane 90 minute waits (or longer). Can’t park them in a restaurant now since they’re all reservation based. This is how you destroy a brand. Notice there are no survey takers at the ticket gates now? Disney doesn’t care if you’re having a good time.
Disney’s Genie+ is a continuation of Disney’s loss of vision. People don’t go to WDW to be slaved to their phones or devices, they go to leave all of that c**p behind, to forget about the work-a-day world and have fun. These changes at Disney (along with the staggering price increases) have pretty much taken all of the spontaneity and fun out of a Disney vacation.
I recently took my family of three to WDW and, while I knew somewhat what I was in for (hence the first time visit) the Genie app and Genie+ was very frustrating. Luckily I had some some research and learned about things like the 2 hour window, frantically refreshing the screen to look for better times, trying to make your next booking as soon as you are scanned into the line. I would say that, overall, it was worth it as we spent far less time riding in lines. However it came with a lot of anxiety and staring at the phone, and VASTLY inflated wait times. Even the physically posted wait times were like 30% inflated. I imagine someone who doesn’t do any research on Genie+ will be incredibly disappointed and frustrated.
I used Genie + on Christmas Day and I’m happy to say it was a plus for my family our wait times ranged from 10 to 15 minutes at most and we were able to get on all the major rides, if you can figure out how to use it you can get on all the big rides on the list. It was worth the money instead of the 1to 2 hour lines, I will definately use it again
Has to be. The pretty much universal high capacity experience for the holiday has been Genie+ was no help on the wait times at all. Touring Plans even figured out each WDW park’s capacity break point for purchasing Genie+ and ILLs vs standby.
Disney consistently lies to guests about wait time in order to encourage or discourage people from going to certain areas of the park.
This is nothing new but what is new is the tweaking of revenue to make up for losses at the park during the pandemic.
To stop Genie+ and LL you as a consumer needs to not use it. Those writing that it is great either are plants or have income that outweighs the sacrifice most people have to spend at Disney.
So either the reviews are fake or the people writing them make so much money that it doesn’t bother them? That’s kind of assuming, don’t you think? There are probably plenty of people who find it useful.

Disney has become nothing more than a money grab operation. I’m glad I got to go there in the 80’s, when the focus wasn’t solely on money.

All the spontaneity of annual passes is now gone. Disney’s central planners now decide what you need.

For the love of everything decent. Can they just please give it up???
