Get a copy editor. It’s “his and his fiancé’s trip.” He is not a possessive pronoun. Inability to correctly use plural possessive pronouns plagues Gen Z and Gen Y writers and it’s incredibly frustrating to read.

      Whatever, Karen.

Why is she a Karen? I read terribly written articles all the time. You have have one job!! Supposedly went to school to learn how to be a journalist, if you can’t spell properly, and your grammar is terrible, you have no business writing articles and being a journalist! And Einstein, any good journalist uses an editor..Sigh! Thanks Ken for your comment! Or is it should we call you chode!!

        Two karens

Gen Z & Gen Y, the rest of the world is laughing at you.

Liars! The longest anyone can legally be held on a plane is 4 hours and this is run extremely tightly by the FAA. I’d believe them more if they said they were at the airport for 8 hours maybe.

I was wondering the same thing. Didn’t Congress pass a passenger protection act or something several years ago to keep airlines from leaving folks on planes like that for hours

I was in the same plane. We were literally in the plane almost 8 hours. They couldn’t plow all the gates so very few gates were getting used at the airport. At one point the pilot/captain (?) mentioned there were 17 planes to the left of us, also trying to get to the gate. They were trying to empty the planes in a way to get the people off who had been on the longest, and there were people who had been on longer than us. Remarkably, everyone near me was in pretty goods spirits….until we received the update on our phones that our flight was cancelled. That’s when it really sucked. So many flights were cancelled that the lines back in the terminal to get answers or reschedule information was insane. With so many people trying to use the wi-fi, it was so slow it wasn’t even worth using. Most calls to find answers were dropped or you were on hold for hours, no exaggeration. The flight was Sunday, and at around 10 last night, Monday, someone called about our luggage. It’s in Orlando.

We were on the same flight as well. This story is true and accurate and I have an email to friends outlining this story. But it did not end there as we spent a further 8 hours in a huge line trying to rebook. We did, and got 4 of our 7 days at WDW. But this was neither Alaska Airlines nor Seatac faults as labor shortages and weather are to blame. Bad things happens and you have to roll with the punches.

Never take Alaska Air to Orlando. Not sure about current schedule. In the past Alaska Air only had two flights per day to Orlando. One glitch will cause major headaches. The gate in Orlando is only staffed for limited hours. We like Alaska Air. Still take them to other locations. Delta has many flights to/from SeaTac and Orlando. Easy to get rebooked on a different flight.

You chose to cancel your trip instead of rebooking with another carrier. Pretty sure your choice of Alaska Air from Seattle to Florida was not well thought out. Was it flight miles? If you were going to be at Disney long enough to need 3 checked bags, one extra day for travel should have been no big deal. Looking for 15 minutes of fame and a payoff, now, most likely.

Well considering the weather and booking a flight at the last to get there after being in the airplane for so long, who’s to say they would have actually been able to get a new flight that would get them there when they needed to.

Alaska air is the only direct flight out of the Seattle area, I believe. It’s better than a transfer in Denver or one of the Texas airports. This seems to be more of a story that Seatac is not prepared for the rare snow the area gets than anything else. Traveling on holidays adds volume and issues like gates being occupied or luggage people not able to drive around in the snow.

Delta has direct flights as well.

This is such a non story. If they wanted to go to DW bad enough they could have.

I just flew out at the end of November with the family and we drove from Vancouver and parked near SeaTac and took a red eye United flight through Houston. We were diverted to Dallas because of fog and when we got to Houston our connecting flight was long gone. 8 hours in Houston to kill for the next flight out that by the time we arrived in Orlando we had travelled for 28 hours.

We still Went straight to MK to watch the fireworks before passing out for two days!!

These people obviously aren’t real Disney lovers!!

If you can’t get direct Seattle to Orlando there are also direct flights to Tampa, Fort Myers and the occasional Sarasota. Or connect through on the low costs to Sanford or Kissimmee.

      All roads lead to Disney

You do realize they said they couldn’t get their luggage, right? How could they truly enjoy their trip when they literally had their clothes on their back and whatever belongings they had with them on the plane? I wouldn’t want to have to try dealing with that stress while trying to enjoy my expensive vacation.

      2. NgL you sound like a cult member 😐

        Recorded information:
        11/1/2011

        Airline Stranded on Tarmac
        For immediate action:

        Call:Congressional Switch Board
202-224-3121 or media listed on FlyerRights.org

Passengers should Document as many details of the stranded flight
& be clear about their experiences.

I saved this information for future reference.

It would be interesting to confirm if indeed a plane was stuck for 8 hours. Also aborting trip would be their choice. But seems like they could have still gone. I know some people get very limited time off but the holidays is a terrible time to travel.

  8. Costa Athan

So why you do you show a United airplane in a poorly written article about an Alaska flight? Just google Alaska Airlines and click on “Images.” I’ll bet you there are plenty of stock photos of Alaska Airlines jets there. Ridiculous! 🙄

  9. Khole

Who cares if they couln’t make it to Disney Land, what they what the airlines to pay for their trip. Go figure try to get something for free instead of just sucking it up like a Real Normal person would do and just go the next day like nothing cry babies

    1. sean broyles

What about there luggage genius? You still need to get them.

  10. Ken Brenner

I thought there was as strict rule that no passengers could be kept on a plane that long.
I also don’t understand why the crew wouldn’t give them something to eat and drink.
    Pitiful situation…

    4. Why would anyone fly in snow and ice! and in this volatile flying century? It is too dangerous and risky. Not prudent.

    3. Patience is a virture. Go to DW FL in June. Also, you can hit the FL beach.

    2. Accolades! to Alaska Airlines for being super cautious to prevent a crash.

    1. Divine Providence: you are home, safe and alive. No crashes or Cvd infections.

    1. Jeanne

I live in Florida and used to work at Disney World. You do NOT want to visit the park in June. Heat, humidity, thunderstorms, etc make it a miserable place.

      1. It sounds like no one should bother going to DW, at ANY time of the year…

    2. Al

I really hate when stories are made out of nothing. Flights are cancelled every day, Luggage is lost.
We once had our Disney trip delayed by one day for our flight being late and it caused us to miss the connection… stuck in an airport with kids overnight. Who knew where the luggage was … took 4 days to find it. That’s what trip insurance is for.
It ended up being the most memorable vacation we have ever had.

  12. Howard Miller

And don’t forget that these Airlines AND airports received billions to stay afloat during the current pandemic. I guess the CEO’S and stockholders were made happy.

  13. Wow….PEOPLE SEEM TO FORGET THAT PLANE TRAVEL IS STRESSFUL..THEN IT APPEARS THAT THINGS STARTED TO ESCALANTE TO THE POINT WHERE U JUST CANT THINK STRAIGHT..TWO OTHER PASSENGERS CONFIRMED HIS STORY IT SEEMS LIKE THE CREW WERE NOT HELPFUL TO THESE PEOPLE ON THE PLANE..NOWADAYS ANY TYPE OF DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR IS MET WITH FORCE ESPECIALLY WITH PASSENGERS ASSERTING THEIR RIGHTS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS WAS
DEMONSTRATED BY A FLIGHT ATTENDENT WHO LEFT A COMMENT CALLING THIS GUY A LIAR..BAD ATTITUDE.. THESE PASSENGERS NEED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THE PROBLEMS THEY EXPERIENCED THRU NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN..

  14. Laura

Very similar experience with Alaska airlines. Waited hours to take off on plane because the gate was frozen to the plane and no one knew how to fix it. Flight then just cancelled, waited 3 hours in line to rebook and told we couldn’t get out of seattle for 3 days. Waited 12 hours in airport and ended up spending 14 hours on 3 separate flights to get back where we stsrted..and no luggage. Alaska airlines was horrible, no information, not at all helpful. Even worse Seattle airport..no idea what to do with the snow no extra staff, no cars available, no hotels for 15 miles. Worst experience ever and I paid exorbitant amounts for the whole fiasco..never got to where I wanted to go, just lucky to get home even without our luggage.

Traveling to WDW between Christmas and New Years? The airline did you a favor! If you had gone, the 8 hours on the tarmac would have been the HIGHLIGHT of your trip!
