Chapek is such a despised CEO and unfortunately for him being Disney’s CEO requires some level of theatrical customer engagement. I really can’t seeing the board sticking with him for the long term especially as he can’t even show his face at public events. I however don’t feel sorry for him, his nickel and dimming cost cutting ways were unforced errors. He should have tried to grow shareholder value through creative investment instead of squeezing loyal customers for every last drop of blood.

    1. Julian H

Well with his short sightedness and Greed he has managed to screw a large proportion of his customers, PAY MORE for LESS Wow what a PLONKER.

      1. Marc L Disney

Well if Bob Chapek doesn’t want the public to see him as a cost-cutter, maybe he should consider paying the castmembers a decent wage instead of looking for ways to line his own greedy pockets with more money he doesn’t need i.e firing 32,000 castmembers just so he can buy himself a 12.5 million dollar house. He is undoubtedly the WORST CEO the Walt Disney Company has ever had!

        1. Jan

If he doesn’t like being called “terrible” then don’t be what is being seen by those that pay him! I have stock in Disney and would rather have a lower percentage of increase and see happy people in the parks! I also get hit by the increases as I am a passholder! The prices going up by hundred’s instead of ten’s is ludicrous! The food has gone down in quality for all parks and even in the table dining. This is pathetic and sad!

    2. AH

The squeezing started with Eisner and has now reached its peak under Chapek. For years they have been trying to find put when their charges will affect attendance. Maybe it will finally catch up to their greed.

    3. Judy M

      You said this so well!!

    4. Shellee L Peters

I’m sorry, I don’t feel sorry for Mr. Chapel, he is making millions and millions a year along with I’m sure bonuses and stock options. If I was making 100 million a year, I’d assume that I wouldn’t be loved by everyone. Get over it. Think of trying to please the guests. They pay your salary. Give the paying guests the perks, YOU took away. Change a few things back like buses that transport to and from the airport. Make resort parking free. Then you might see a big change.

Okay, let’s cheer him up by calling him a Price-Gouger.

    1. EZ

Exactly, but your being too nice!! I was really considering being a DVC member but now, it’s definitely not worth it. The quality of everything has gone down the drain.

Noticed some shirts on Amazon that speak to the direction Disney is going, especially with regard to their latest tactic of upselling and overcharging in their parks. However, one shirt speaks very clearly to what Walt might think of Bob.

    1. GILBERT

He’s absolutely the best thing Disney can ever do.
Says Warner, universal, Sony and all of their competitors

      1. Judy M

As a travel agent who specializes in Disney destinations, the majority of my recent bookings have been to Universal. It’s telling.

        1. Alice

I got engaged, and married at Disneyland I’ve been an out of state Annual Passholder for YEARS, flying down 4-6x each year (grabbing flights whenever they were cheap, using air miles and companion fares – you know – so I could spend my $$$ on $5 non-refillable sodas in the parks. ;). I can afford to go, but I no longer feel welcome. My wallet is invited, but I’m not. Despite having a WEDDING and a whole room block of guestsat the Grand Californian Hotel, I’m not allowed to walk through the front entrance to the lobby/restaurants or gift shop unless I’m also staying there. Really?! What about families who aspire to stay there and want to see the grand lobby or purchase a pin, or whatever?! I don’t like endorsing all of this separation of fans with my money. It makes me feel gross. It doesn’t remotely feel like what Walt would do. Keep the egalitarian FastPass. Let people refill their drinks and please do better, Walt Disney Company. You’ve broken my heart. And, this rebound relationship with Universal actually feels like it might be the real thing. Universal seems to actually love everybody. One more thing, it’s pretty horrendous that while my out of state Legacy Annual Pass was refunded, Disney KEPT and continued to required payments from California residents with payment plans for their passes while Sisneyland was closed. And did you extend those passes? Exactly. I gave you one last chance when I flew down for Oogie Boogie Bash…cast members were great. Value for what I experienced? Well, I didn’t renew my pass for the first time ever.

    If the shoe fits….
Regardless of the pandemic, we’ve seen our annual Disney trip increase 150% over the last three years. And, the quality is nowhere near the same.

    1. MICHAEL SMITH

Yep. After I go for the 50th, I’m done for a while. What was an annual trip is gonna be every 4-5 now. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.

      1. Stephanie H McCurry

I agree completely. Went for the 50th. Not sure when I’ll ever come back.

      2. Lisa

We are set to go December 2022 and are now considering cancelling. The level of greed That is happening is a turn off. Paying more and getting less in return and so many attractions are closed and/or not working. They need to fire him before more people stop going

    2. Lisa

There are so many aspects to the park experience that have gone downhill lately. Just came back from WDW yesterday and there was a huge difference even between a trip in August vs. December. Next trip we will be splitting time between Disney and Universal especially as there is no more magic express!

    3. I totally agree he has ruined Disney Not only worth the price hikes but not being able to park up whenever we want to and that reservation system is beyond stupid I won’t go until they fix this I think he should be fired Walt Disney would have been extremely upset with this

  6. Chris

Well, then he needs to change his ways, the bottom line is he is being a cheapskate…..one could say a Scrooge before Scrooges change of heart. Or a Grinch before gringos change of heart.

  7. Bxmamipr712

When I saw this article with Bob Paycheck’s picture, I immediately thought of the book The Portrait of Dorian Gray. Dorian literally sells his soul for wealth, and becomes a monster. He does not age, but the more horrible he becomes, the more hideous his portrait becomes. Bob Paycheck didn’t even look human in the photo. He is a monster, and the epitome of corporate greed. I refuse to go to Disney (I used to go often for years) , or let them profit off of me in any way as long as he is around.

  8. Robin

Just got back from 10 day trip at WDW. Cheapek is definately going on the wrong direction. Outpricing loyal customers. Taking away more and more while charging more and more. Genie+ is a failure, Kite Tales was lame, Photo pass was useless as there were hardly any photographers to be found. Wasted a lot of money for little value. Chapek needs to go and guests and imagineers should be valued if they ever want to see me come back. Thoroughly disappointed

  9. I grew up in Florida as an annual pass holder. Now I cannot afford to go!!! 40 years of fun but now it is only a dream that will never come true!!!

  10. NotMyDisney

    Bob is a schmuck

  11. eM Leigh

His nickname within the company is Bob Paycheck. I still say it by accident if he ever comes up!
The kind of man that can run a division practically into the ground (BVHE), kiss up to the right people and get promoted to the next level where you fire long term employees to bring in your college roommate and friends (dcp). It’s all about the shareholders and I cannot wait until they shred him up. The man is not a good person for this company, or any company with a hint of integrity. With him being at the helm now it’s like watching a good friend that I care about rebound with a p. o. s. that already screwed over all our friends.
Btw, there is a change dot org petition circling around the internet. I suggest looking it up if only just for fun.

  12. Richard

The Best Days of Disney are before him.
My Grandkids will never experience the Magic that ONCE was Disney.

  13. Jane M Smith

Removing the Magical express is a bus too far. WHAT IS THE Point of going to Disney if the magic is gone. The special things like the freebies (your really paying for them, all in the marketing) Like magic bands extra magic hours. Disney is not supposed to be a once in a life time vacation. You want people to return.

  14. Walter

Chapek has earned the reputation he reportedly despises. And he also has the power to change it by changing his action. To say that the consumer is the focus could not be further from the truth looks at. His statements about increasing shareholder value and actions of taking consumer experiences that were once included (fastpass) and fleecing those very consumers at every turn (Genie + and Lightning Lane) like a giant holding them up by the feet and shaking them out for change that falls. Disney once showed that they cared about the customer experience. They now care more about their shareholder return at the expense of the customer experience. And the very people who love and turn to Disney the most to add some happiness to their lives are the ones who get cornered into paying more and more at the parks, for the merchandise, for the family hotel stays. (Are you kissing me with these hitel nightly fees).

Bob Chapek hates his cost-cutting reputation. That’s rich.

    1. Stephanie H McCurry

Does he really care about the shareholders? He suspended the dividend.

      1. Julian H

He is only looking out for himself – Penny Pinching Git.

  15. Deeply Disappointed

Disney World is quickly going downhill. It is nothing more than an overpriced day as they have taken away so much of the experience and increased all costs. So many of them little things that made the parks a magical day are gone yet the prices across the board have gone up exponentially! I’ve been going to Disney for the past 40 years, my wife and I were married there and she is a Cast Member and I can assure you it is no longer the most magical place on earth.

    1. So Sad

Only going to get worse with the layoffs disguised as relocation of imagineering.

    2. Alice

It feels so crowded. Sigh. And, now I have to stay glued to an unstable, wonky app in a park where you lose reception in any queue that isn’t outdoors, while on vacation from a tech job that I deserve to unplug from. And, seriously? I have to PAY to charge my phone at Dland? WTFrick, Bob?! I don’t even WANT to be using my phone! I CAME HERE TO GET *AWAY* from my phone…to be present…to soak up the magic and some sunshine. Not to get soaked by greedy Bob Chapek who made $14MM, and sure didn’t make any cuts to his payroll. Gross, Bob. That’s really, really gross, man.
It doesn’t *FEEEEL* like magic. It feels like being manipulated. “Take my money” is just an expression of love from fans, it wasn’t meant literally. Not coming over to play at the House of Mouse anymore. You’re not a very nice friend.

  16. He’s nickle and diming guests for everything. Previous services that came with staying on Disney property have disappeared in fairy dust. Price increases on food and smaller portions. Charging money for fast pass (now genie plus. ) If you don’t want to be called cheap, Bob, stop being freaking cheap!!!

Single Mom Makes $89,844/Yr in Her Spare Time on The Computer Without Selling Anything. you can bring from $5000-$8000 of extra income every month. working at home for 4 hours a day, and earning could be even bigger.

He’s GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! This man is CLUELESS! I can’t believe ANYONE could be this dense…

  18. Sherry

Heartbreaking that our Disney days re behind us. We have no desire to visit Paychecks version of Walt’s dream. Until Disney finds it’s roots, we are done.

    1. April Hautala

It’s sad when a kids meal is a handful of soggy fries and 2 chicken nuggets. I had the most disgusting burger for $15. I bit into it and a hard thing was there. I thought, maybe it was just a bad bite. Nope! More hard disgusting fat or bone….. not sure because I couldn’t even look without puking. I have been to Disney more times than I can count, and we will now vacation at Universal. No paying for fast passes. Housekeeping will actually clean your room. I had to to have my trash changed and more soap. I hope he can sleep at night.

  19. Mickeymouse3

Disney sure is trying hard to put a positive spin on Bob Paycheck. They are definitely pushing him as a good guy who is just misunderstood. Too bad people know what they see. He IS ruining the Disney “magic”. Paycheck just refuses to admit he is all about profit and could care less about the “magic”. For a guy who was in charge of the parks for so long, one would think he would be better. Actions speak louder than words Bob.

I moved down from NY earlier this year hoping to make magic after been sent home from my CP last year due to the pandemic. I obviously expected things to be different due to pandemic guidelines but I figured it would just be wearing masks and disinfecting surfaces more. I was so excited to be back and right off the bat things we so different.
    1. They greatly took away that personal “welcome to Disney feel” by making traditions a 400+ person event rather than a small classroom like setting.
    2. The entirety traditions was tainted by covid. Which like once again a get going over the guidelines and stuff by don’t take away from the joy of such a thing for just endless hours of repeating yourself.
    3. They worked their cast members to the absolute bone before CPs came back so we weren’t able to give the guests the quality service they were used to do to sheer exhaust and just constantly getting yelled at because we had to enforce the mask policy.
    4. I watched in just the last few months how much worse the nickel and diming got. I decided to calculate how much disney makes on 1 box of disposable masks one day and it’s almost as much as I make in a day. After taxes it is the same. If I hadn’t had my main gate I wouldn’t have been able to afford a day at the park as a cast member.
    5. I talked to several guests these last few months who have been coming to Disney for years and even decades and heard many times that it is the last time they will come to Disney because the magic is gone. Which it is! And I could try and help as much as possible but unfortunately as a basic cast member there was only so much I can do to help and they have taken away perks or things we used to do to try and help turn a day around. The new Disney doesn’t care if a guest has a good day as long as they get that guests money by the end of the day.
Due to all of this, I decided to say to hell with Disney and move back home. Disney isn’t worth missing lunch and fish dinner with my grandma or seeing my nieces and nephew grow up. I also now have a cousin that I have never met and I want to go hold and spoil her. Disney is digging itself a hole that if they aren’t careful they won’t be able to come out of it.

On that note, if you do go to Disney be nice the castmembers. They see what’s happening and agree with you that the change is not for the better but unfortunately at that level, there’s nothing they can do. Don’t yell at them for asking you to wear a mask, it is not their policy and if seen by leadership that they ignored the fact that someone didn’t have their mask on it can cost them their job.

    1. Lisa

What is with the extra hours in the evening if you’re only staying on a deluxe property? He is truly ruining the magic of Disney. People stay on Disney property for the perks and experience and he is now turning it into a money grabber and creating a two tiered system of the have and have not Disney property guests

      1. Julian Herring

I agree with you completely, we are moving over to Universal, I have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside coming from the UK, the Holidays have been fantastic in the past, but we have noticed that the prices go up and up, and what you get for it has got less and less. We enjoyed the extra magic hours in the parks and spent money when doing it. Next year will be my last staying on Disney Property its just not worth the price tag anymore. The magic hours were such a nice thing to have and Disney did well out of them, I do not understand their logic on this, it was a great perk for us, but the 30 minutes in the morning what a joke, Disney keep it and I’ll keep my Cash and go to Universal where they at least do care about the customer. The hotels are as good as if not better and certainly more value for money. I’m not getting ripped off any more by Disney and will spend my holiday in other theme parks. Oh and by the Way Bob Paycheck you are a cheep greedy bean counter, enjoy it while you can the tide is turning.

Dear Susan Arnold, please replace Bob Chapek ASAP and reverse some of the dreadful things he has brought in. What perks are there for staying in your overpriced hotels now… please do not say 30 mins in a park extra, forget it, for the money I can go stand in a Starbucks queue.

  21. Brooke

Chapek is the antithesis of Disney, period. I miss Iger, who I thought, was the closest we came to the 2nd coming of Walt Disney. Iger grew the Disney corp beyond what we could have ever imagined, all while maintaining the quality, value and magic at the parks, resorts, Disney content and Disney talent. Chapek has dismantled everything that was included with our APs, tickets, hotel stays, and sold them back to us at double and some quadruple their original price. Now he wants to get into online sports gambling. Gambling? He’s all about the money. The hotels are over $1k per night at some resorts. He is an epic failure and is destroying Disney by the day. Never forget he is the one who gutted both Galaxy Edge lands, cutting the dinner theater, union actors and changed it from Tattoine to Batuu.

    1. Julian Herring

Unfortunately it was Bob Iger that promoted the Greedy Bean Counter, and I can honestly say over the last 7 or so years the Disney Parks have gotten a little worse and now well why spend the money is got more and more expensive for a whole lot less for your money, we are done with Disney now sadly.

I only hope the new Chairperson Susan Arnold has some magic up her sleeve? She will need it to turn this mess around.

  22. ChadMC

Like a lot of people I had an annual pass for decades but decided to let it go. I live in Florida a few hours away from WDW and would go a couple of times per year. With these new restrictions preventing access on ‘no blackout days’ annual passes makes this useless. For us locals the ability to just get up and go whenever is why we always had an annual pass. But now that ability is gone. There is no more being sporadic. Heck, can’t even go and get a burger inside the park anytime you want as it’s now all got to be scheduled through the phone app?? It’s too much work to go there. This is all at his direction so he deserves all the negativity tossed at him.

  23. CJA

    How about “Service Slasher?”

  24. Jim

I think its greed,he seems to more worried , about keeping up the pace for his guaranteed salary, than Walt’s vision on family and kids, and to make it affordable, for the cost of a week families save for years,to have a once in a life time blow out . with the cost ,the magical bus and free fast pass perks were more reasonable, I think the genie + is a rip off and greed,

  25. John Torre

Chapek’s problem is he hides in the shadows and lets the populace define his visions for the park instead of defining them himself. Yes, he’s seen as a money grabber and it’s justly deserved. Here’s a quick story that highlights his differences to Walt: When Disneyland first opened Walt and Roy were deeply in debt. But still, Walt wanted to stage an elaborate and expensive parade. All his advisors—and probably Roy, too—advised him not to stage it as it would be too expensive and people would not come to see it. He replied something to the effect of “That’s exactly why we need a parade…to keep people coming back.” And that is the mindset that Chapek just doesn’t get. 🙁

  26. 87ssaerocoupe

If Cheapek feels “victimized”, I have 3 suggestions to rectify his cheapness
    1. Eliminate Genie+ & Lightning Lines
    2. Return of FastPass+
    3. Return of Magic Express

  27. AT

“It gets me every time,” he enthused, adding, “I can’t wait until we replace this guy with Princess Patrice, a new character we’ll be rolling out in Disney+ series and CG musical. Or Iron Man, whatever.”

  28. G

As a family that are part of DVC and long time love of WDW I am upset that the magic has been eliminated

  29. Jen

Last time I visited I walked .5 miles to get into the park and it was hot out. Most rides were 60-70 minutes on a freaking Thursday! I went to 2 parks and I rode 2 rides and watched 1 show. I’m not going to pay to get on a half as short lines with Genie Plus. I provide steady guaranteed income to Disney as an AP and I’m not going to pay for Genie when I can eat snacks or shop… but it annoys me for sure. If It continues where I can’t ever get on a ride, I might just decide it’s not worth it anymore. I walked out of my last park for another half mile alone and in the dark partially, it was creepy. He doesn’t want to be seen as a non creative money grubber but that’s what he is. I mean we were spiked about the Star Wars resort but that price tag is delusional. They got ride of Mickeys very merry which was a bummer. And where are the freaking teams?!?!?

  30. Jen

    Amen!

  31. Rick

If you look into the history of Disney- I’d say we are entering another slump and dark age for Disney. Hopefully it will remain brief. But there have been ebbs and flows in terms of the creative vs penny pinching mindset.

But what really matters is $$$. And if the $$$ keeps flowing then Bob Paycheck is doing a fantastic job

  32. Bren

For all who have been to Disney World over the last ten to twelve years, I know you’ve seen it going down in quality year by year. I’ve watched the decline. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out what was happening to my beloved magical place. Each year a little more disappeared, changed, little by little losing the magic. In 2018 after a less than magical trip, I decided we would go somewhere else in 2019 for our yearly trip. The food quality had diminished, the souvenir quality was horrid, nothing pretty, but plenty of plastic, the resorts didn’t feel as welcoming, nor did they seem to care. So after that year, no special souvenir to come home and put on my Disney shelf, feeling more defeated and exhausted than before I left for the trip, we went to the competitor the next year. The change was a welcome one. It reminded me of my beloved magical Disney which no longer existed. I had all the plans in the world to return in 2021 to the competitor, but covid had a different agenda. Anyways, long story short, to know Chapek has been in control of the parks, of the consumer merchandise, the resorts BEFORE becoming the new head honcho explains a lot. He has been the doomer from the get go. Now he can really bring them down being in charge. Until my beloved and magical Disney returns, and that jerk is out, gone, replaced with someone who can bring it back to where it should be, well, I won’t be spending my money there. Farewell my beloved Disney, but my money talks, and it’s chose to walk. And until others do the same, the moron who is killing Disney will get to stay in charge until Disney is no more.

  33. Steve

He took away the complimentary bus to the resort and back to airport and we now have to pay.
He took away the fast pass which worked great and replaced it with Genie + which we have to pay $15.00 per day per person. There will be 10 of us which adds quite a bit to our trip.
Bob Iger needs to come back until they can find someone that is not as greedy as Chapek.
We usually come to WDW every two years but this year will be our last. Too much greed. This guy is a disaster for the Disney brand.
