That means nothing. We don’t know how often they update the website, it could be play-by-ear. They have to fix all that equipment and make sure the flume doesn’t leak. I never thought they could be so inept. I’m sick over the whole thing.
It has nothing to do with ineptitude. The ride is 60 years old. Doesn’t matter how well you maintain it; the older a piece of mechanical equipment gets, the more susceptible it becomes to malfunction. And it wasn’t leaking at the time that they drained the flume, so that had no reason to believe that it would spring a massive leak as soon as they refilled it. There are plenty of reasons to criticize Disney, but this really isn’t one of them.
Then maybe a multi billion dollar profit machine could somehow rebuild the ride. The saddest part about it is they’re not skimping or stopping the hotel build outs in the DVC suites. Lightning lane, Genie+, ” better for your waistline” portion reduction. Blessed us not forget 93% of all their allocation for the queue for the day is dedicated to lightning light
One of the main reasons to go to an expensive limited-hours event is out of commission because of something entirely preventable and they shouldn’t be called out over this?
I refuse to go this year if it’s a small world holiday doesn’t reopen or they end masks again or listen to any Disney related music and videos because I am sad
And heartbroken about this
I used to be an electrical maintenance person on this ride. There is a pit near the boat loading area exit (you can see the hatches on the ground) and this is most likely where the damage is. The flume runs over this underground room and there are pumps and other equipment there. If the flume ruptured, this equipment would be flooded. The main PLCs (control computers) and audio gear are not located here. They are at the rear of the attraction in an above ground room, removed from the flume. In any event, it appears that a good portion of the underground equipment must be replaced. While Disneyland keeps most of the park that people see in good repair, there are some areas which are not directly related to safety which can be neglected until things go wrong. A weakness in the flume is a prime example.
I sincerely hope that, whenever they get it up and running again, they do a “Christmas in _____ (whatever month it is)” and keep the Holiday decorations up for a while. Time it right and you could bring a lot of traffic to the park during the off-season.

Please change the wording in your article to read “holiday OVERLAY” instead of “holiday LAYOVER”. Two different words with different meanings.

Thank you for that interesting information.
