  1. Personally, I would like to have the opportunity to buy Disney World merchandise from the comfort of my home from the parks directly. Some items they will sell you over the phone and some they will not. Hot items like a special popcorn bucket has to be purchased in person. Every year I have to hunt down a WDW popcorn bucket for my sister (who is a collector). I would like to pay retail value and shipping to WDW, but I can’t because they refuse to sell the item to me. WDW limited buyers to 2 items which has caused the prices on the internet to go higher. WDW is creating scarcity. I paid $48 for a Mickey 50th anniversary popcorn bucket from someone on ebay. It would be great if Disney World sold the items direct to the public. We could get decent prices and Disney gets to keep the money. Judge if you want, but not all us live in Florida, belong to vacation club, or have the money to go to WDW on a whim.

That’s a great idea… Make it limited for a month in the park, or even like have a special sticker that says “park exclusive”, then sell something at lease similar online, like all the 50th merch that dropped today. Hate to admit I’ve had to use these shoppers because bulk buyers make it hard collecting (limited edition prints, anyone?!), but I have no way of going more than every couple of years and still want the option to own some of the fun items I see on-location influencers enjoying 24/7.

I have an annual pass that I have been paying for nearly 2 years and have not been able to go to the parks due to the pandemic and Disney’s failure to enforce even their own safety measures. The fact also that although I live in Florida I cannot make it there often anymore due to rising costs. I have tried to get 50th merchandise online at shop Disney and it’s a farce. I believe the things they sell at shop Disney are things that they don’t sell that well in the parks. Plus the cost of their annual resident passes have really exploded. I get more for my Busch Gardens/SeaWorld Annual Sr Platinum Pass for less money and as long as I use the monthly payment plan and do not cancel the payment is the same now as when I first purchased it in 2008. With that pass there are no blackout dates, I get free preferred parking, 6 complimentary tickets to use for anyone I want to. I get 20% Discount on anything I purchase in the parks, I get 7 free discounted tickets to use for others also. Those perks are each year. My pass since it is the top tier pass is good for all SeaWorld/BuschGardens Parks in the Country with the exception of Discovery Cove. SeaWorld Entertainment has 12 Parks my Pass is good for 11 of them. The Free & Complimentary Tickets are for the Florida Parks alone but that is okay because their are two theme parks & 2 water parks in Florida. The only way my Pass price would go up is if I cancel monthly payment for any reason & then were to reinstate at another time. Since I have not cancelled since I purchased it in January 2008 I still pay the same price as I did the first time $16.88 a month. I have gotten much use out of that pass as well as taking my Stepson, his girlfriend, & my two of my granddaughters, sister in law & friends to the parks. Still I wish that Disney would sell more diverse merchandize on shop Disney.

Sell online only (after beefing up the current site by an order of magnatude). Have a “ticket” to pick it up in the park. It stops the madness, makes it all fair for all of us (local or people wishing they could be local)

Was on property from the 22nd to the 31st of October. Could hardly find any medium tops in men’s or womens.
Sucks that we spent all that time trying to find something that should have been easy to find. These resellers must go!

There should be items that are sold exclusively at the parks. All limited edition merchandise should have serial numbers that are scanned and when purchased, the purchaser should be required to provide an ID and show their admission media.

When sold, the serial number should be automatically recorded and linked to the ID and admission media. The terms should state that you can resell for the price you paid plus actual shipping costs, with no markup for 10 years, after 10 years you are allowed to sell for a profit. You also agree that you will post the serial number on all listing, so Disney can check and pull down offending listing and revoke admission media as applicable.

Additionally, the limit should be 1 or 2 per person and that should be per person total, not per day or per time through the line, etc.

They could also set it up where special edition merchandise is mobile order only, but only while you are actually in the park and again, strict limits apply.

But something has to be done about these resellers and done in a way to reduce lines.

    1. Mickey

Well I give my item to my friend and they sell it or I traded it for something I want and that person sells it for profit so why should I get screwed

      1. Chris

Because you agreed not to do it, so when giving it, you would have to have them agree not to as well. Sorry, but too many bad people have ruined it for the good ones.

We were at Disney World in October 2021 celebrating Halloween and the 50th Anniversary and everything at the parks were sold out of everything, I wanted a 50th Dooney Burke purse and they sold out saw it on EBay for $600.00! That is just earful and all Halloween t-shirts were sold out, I am talking about at the park and online!

I am NOT sticking up for anybody but there is no law against reselling. Disney may punish their pass holder violators but that’s all they can do.

    1. Chris

Actually, I isn’t only passholders, anyone with a day ticket or multi-day ticket and all CMs agree to the same terms that it can’t be used for commercial purposes and going to buy stuff to resell is commercial purposes. So, it violates the rules of the tickets. They alsonspecify similar rules when you purchase merchandise at the hotels, Disney Springs, Downtown Disney, etc.

Basically you have already agreed not to resale, it just isn’t being enforced. But Disney is well within their rights to do so.

    2. R

Actually there is. We called it scalping, gouging, etc. Still illegal even if not enforced. These people are no different thant the toilet paper, hand sanitizer, surgical mask, lysol “resalers” early in the pandemic who made HUGE ($1000s) profits from desperate people just trying to manage the best they could. The incrediblely high rates at which these people gouge Americans is usery. It was illegal when the mob did it, it’s illegal now. If anyone has the balls and morals to prosecute them. Which I doubt.

Capitalism At Work, Plain & Simple!! If Y’all Don’t Like It, Move To China! Sorry NOT Sorry!

    1. Weirdflexbro

Lol literally doesn’t make sense with the issue

  9. Comics206

People can suck it up. It’s almost like they don’t understand how capitalism works…

I understand how frustrating it is when there’s something you would like, but you can’t go to the park. I have no issue with people advertising themselves as a personal shopper, to purchase a specific item for someone at non-discounted cost. But we ALL know that the EBay resellers are a scourge. We’ve seen them, loaded down with 20 huge bags, headed out of the park before noon. And we’ve seen their listings, charging insane amounts for popular items.
Disney is within their rights to cut off the reseller bandwagon and enforce the policy that is printed on every single ticket. They also bear some of the responsibility due to their hyping of this week’s Must Have Item. But for those of us who are occasional guests and who would like to find merchandise at the park, this is a good thing.
And Pancho and Comics206, capitalism also includes rules about following guidelines set by companies. Like those printed on your tickets.

  11. Angelica

As unfair as it is for people to be reselling this stuff the problem is that there are people out there that want this merchandise but are unable to make it to the parks. I unfortunately fall into this category and I don’t think it would be fair for me to not be able to get anything because I can’t go right now. Something needs to be done to not only crack down on resellers but to also make it so that fans like me who are unable to go because of circumstances beyond their control are able to get a piece of the magic too. There needs to be a solution that will please everyone from park guests to the fans stuck at home.

    1. Anonymous

They used to have a number on the bottom of receipts where you could phone order stuff. I wish they’d go back to that. I know it’s sucks not being able to go but you know what sucks equally if not more? Standing in line at the park just to find out resellers grabbed it all in front of you

      1. Angelica

And that’s why we need a solution that will work for everyone. I saw that one comment said that Disney should just have more of this stuff in stock and I really agree with that. They know the 50th stuff is super popular so there should be more of it. Too bad if they don’t want to make more supply, they kinda need to if it’s this popular. Yes I know that it’s hard to do this now, but if they could at least try to then I think the reselling issue will improve. Of course they’d still have to crack down somewhat though and make it easier for those at home to get the items they want.

  12. Harry

I think the Disney prices are high to begin with. I never get everything that I would like. I couldn’t imagine wanting something bad enough to pay a markup on top of that. A commemorative item should be to commemorate actually being their for the experience. A memory. Buying without the memory makes it just another item.

    1. Theme Parks Fanatic

That’s all well and good but there are many who go to Disney at certain times and are not able to go at other times. Should they be penalized? I don’t think they should. If Disney is going to keep their Shop Disney they should sell commemorative items also. Especially now where you have to have a park reservation to go to the park anyway even if you have an annual pass. To show how greedy Disney has become I read an article where it stated Disney is thinking on giving smaller portions when selling food to increase their profits. As far as I can see Disney has become a bottom line only company. It’s really sad. I don’t think it’s fair for the resellers to get all the merchandise but I think many people turn to them as a last resort. I won’t Disney’s prices are high enough as it is. I just think Disney itself shouldn’t complain which I don’t think they would anyway since I believe they don’t care where the money comes from as long as it boosts their bottom line profits.

  13. Rose

I personally don’t see a problem. Not everyone can afford to go to Disney or make it to the parks on time so it doesn’t bother me if people want to resell. Luck of the game, unfortunately.

  14. Jennifer

I agree that there should be a crackdown! I was in Magic Kingdom in the 1st and it was like Walmart on Black Friday! I really wanted the 50th anniversary Loungefly. It sells for about $75 in the park. Completely sold out, but they were on line all over the place for as much as $500. That is not okay. There is no justification for that. Plain and simple greed.

  15. Melissa

I have less of a problem with the personal shoppers because most of them are shopping based on orders people have placed with them. They are not blindly going in and buying in large quantities and upping the prices like many of the ebay sellers are or the bot sellers on shopdisney. The ebay sellers go in and blindly buy up items they think are going to be hot selling items and raise the prices hoping to sell them. At least personal shoppers are buying for people who want the items and just can’t get to the parks. Disney is creating part of this issue by limiting the supply drastically on some of these popular items. They know the demand is there, they just don’t want to create the supply – especially with the 50th anniversary items. I talked with CM and items were selling out within a week or two or faster. That’s on Disney – more should have been produced. Disney is creating part of the problem.

  16. Keith

I can’t stand it when I’m searching for an item and everything has been picked over by the merch flippers. These people should have their passes revoked and banned from the parks

  17. Constance

I wanted a 50 th Christmas ornament. We arrived on Oct 6th. All sold out. People were crazy in the World of Disney store. We left!

For those that are hiding behind the word Capitalism, I call it greed!
