If you are planning on experiencing Mickey’s PhilharMagic at Magic Kingdom today or in the upcoming weeks, we have some unfortunate news for you… but it will be worth it!
We recently found out that Mickey’s PhilharMagic would be getting a new addition to the fun Disney-IP-filled attraction as Coco would be added in among the many catchy Disney songs and films. When Guests enter the theater, they think they are headed to see Mickey’s PhilharMagic orchestra play. Once Donald takes over, we are constantly thrown into Disney films such as The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Beauty, and the Beast, Aladdin, and more!
Mickey’s PhilharMagic opened in 2003 and, since then, has seen little to no refurbishments. Now, Disney is ready to update the attraction and add in a newer IPs such as Coco. The Coco addition has already been seen at Disneyland but will now be added into Magic Kingdom’s version.
In order to make the transition complete, Disney must refurbish the attraction as a whole as there are external things that occur with each scene, such as scents, movements, and water effects that are timed with the film Guests are watching. As of today, Mickey’s PhilharMagic will be closed through to November 12.
The month-long refurbishment will likely be worth it for Guests as they will be able to experience something new in an attraction that may be getting stale for some, as it is mostly a film as opposed to a moving ride. It also will come in time to join the 50th anniversary celebration! Many other Fantasyland attractions have seen a significant upgrade, such as “it’s a small world”, Mad Tea Party, and Princess Fairytale Hall, to name a few. By upgrading Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Disney is checking off another Fantasyland attraction that was in need of an update.
Stay tuned to Inside the Magic as we continue to update you on the attraction’s progress.
