One of our staff members is currently at Magic Kingdom and noticed Guests had to be evacuated off of the teacups at approximately 11:23 a.m. EST. Despite My Disney Experience having shown the attraction at a 5-minute Standby wait time, we can confirm the ride was not operating at this time.
In fact, our Inside the Magic staff member said they were standing next to the attraction’s queue during this evacuation and witnessed Disney Cast Members turn Guests away as the ride was not operable at the time of publication.
Disney maintenance workers were spotted on the scene, trying and figure out the issue, as seen in the image below.
Disney Cast Members were informing Guests that it “could be awhile” before Mad Tea Party opened back up.
Since the article’s original publication, we can now confirm Mad Tea Party is back up and running, though the reason for the shut down is still unknown at this time.
More on Mad Tea Party
If you have never ridden Mad Tea Party, the official Walt Disney World website describes this classic attraction as:
A Very Merry UnBirthday
Pour yourself into an oversized pastel teacup and twirl through a wild wonderland of color and song. As the party gets underway, sail back and forth around a towering teapot as festive music fills the air.
A Taste of Classic Disney Magic
Mad Tea Party is inspired by the Mad Hatter’s party sequence in Walt Disney’s animated classic Alice in Wonderland and modeled after the iconic 1955 Disneyland Park attraction.
Control Your Spin
For a wild ride, turn the wheel fast and hold on. Dizziness not your cup of tea? Turn slowly, or not at all, and enjoy a gentle turn around the table.
