Hey Rebekah, you forgot to mention one of the reasons for low park attendance is that it is too expensive for people to attend.

    1. R. Davis

Everybody keeps saying crowd levels are so low but there are no restaurant reservations available for any days every park including Disney Springs.

      1. Justin Byrd

Hi R. Davis this is most likely because of the new protocol which only allows for so many people indoors at once making accommodations for socially distanced seating and not wanting to overburden their staff. The reservation system means they have a smaller capacity so it will take longer to get to each reservation and they will be drawn out many months

Another reason for the park attandance being so low is that this is the period international visitors would arrive to avoid busy holiday periods like Labour Day and Thanksgiving.

      1. Justin Byrd

Hi Jackie that’s true but it seems like their cache of annual passholders has taken a significant hit too

Hi Tom that’s exactly it. It’s easy to understand that if you raise prices in depression-like times where people are just trying to make ends meet they’ll have little if anything to spend on recreation. Raising prices exacerbates this problem

Most of the onsite hotels are fully booked in October. There are zero discounts from rack rate at that time, so its more expensive then than over the summer when discounts were offered. Its not cost, I think its people waiting for everything that is coming with the 50th anniversary.

        1. Justin Byrd

Hi Joe while this is true it doesn’t indicate that their attendance hasn’t been impacted. There are only so many reservations many people who had to cancel might have rebooked their hotel rooms and since the reservation system is in effect they had to book far in advance and with reduced capacity they are only able to fill so many rooms

Been here since the 19th. These posts about low crowds had me so excited before arrival but it has felt packed at every park. While there are some times you can walk on popular rides it seems to be just luck because most rides have been 40-60 minute wait times. Soaring was a good 30 minute wait on Sunday. I know that those wait times are typical for Disney and not bad at all, but these posts are very deceiving.

Also a CM told us at MK that next week the parks will go to 100% capacity for the 50th anniversary.

Not a bad point. People were getting fed up with the theme parks, even pre-covid. The prices, lines, crowds, are just a bit too much.

We went in late June – perfect timing…But the lines were OK. The major rides were 40-60 min. Which is fine. The major change is you HAVE to plan ahead. Reservations are very difficult to come by on restaurant. 60 or 90 days out – you have to be on line at 6 or 7 am to get those spots. We dot two out of four spots that we wanted. Then you must plan ahead on ordering your lunch and dinner. While at the park, order online for lunch, while in line for a ride. For dinner – check if there are any opening reservations for dinner – otherwise – order online before your family is hungry. Your phone at disney is EVERYTHING. There is no simple going to a restaurant and asking for food…..You must use your phone.

This blog is definitely stretching the truth, maybe is a trick to sucker folks into thinking is a good time to go…we are here and is packed as always…

We were down there two weeks ago, expecting to see empty parks based on recent articles like this one. I’d say the authors are deceiving folks, maybe disney is even paying them to do so? I will agree attendance is lower than usual, maybe 30% lower, but a ghost town like these pics show is far from reality.. My guess is these people get in line early to get in the park and then take pics of empty parks because they get in before the folks behind them.

Two quick comments. First, Disney World
has become too expensive for the majority of families. We use to go almost every year for a decade but as prices continued to climb we could spend seven days in Europe for the same price as six days at Disney World even counting the airfare. We enjoyed real castles and way better food.
Second, Soaring is the most boring ride at Disney World. Don’t base too much on the lack of lines at that ride.
Time to stop catering to the rich folks. Middle class has been locked out by the prices
