This evening, Disney World Guests are in for a treat! Walt Disney World Resort will finally debut Harmonious, the EPCOT nighttime spectacular that has been said to be the biggest show Disney World has ever created.

The show will be emotionally driven and feature Disney songs and scores that we know and love with a twist. It will represent multiple cultures from around the world and can be seen anywhere in the World Showcase. The show’s debut has been long-awaited by many as it was pushed back due to the pandemic. Although it officially opens on October 1, the beginning of The World’s Most Magical Celebration, it will soft open over the next two days.

Although the show will undoubtedly be spectacular, many Disney fans have commented on the grandeur of the five barges and how it dominates the World Showcase lagoon, changing the aesthetic that Guests once used to. We do know that on October 1, a fountain show will debut during the day, turning the darker barges into a work of art.

During today’s media event for the 50th anniversary, we sat down with one of the audio designers for the show and spoke about what we could expect. Aside from being reaffirmed that Harmonious will be an emotional rollercoaster, we talked about the challenges faced with creating Harmonious, including finding a way to make the barges into a positive addition to the World Showcase lagoon.

Currently, we can see a 50th anniversary logo on the barges, but from our conversations, it seems it will be up to the Imagineers in terms of how long the design will last.  Harmonious did have its troubles as, “No project is perfect,” but it seems that Disney is using daytime projections to “enhance the experience.”

“We are bringing the experience to life. Whatever we can do to enhance the experience that’s what our mission is. During the day, Guests will be able to enjoy the stunning aesthetics created by the barges.”

It seems that Disney is relying on the visual and water show to win over the Guests who have been questioning its look and place in the lagoon.

Disney describes the show as:

Watch the World Come Together
The heart of the Epcot transformation comes to life with Harmonious, one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for Disney Parks. The show is a beautifully crafted medley of classic Disney music and visuals reinterpreted by a culturally diverse group of 240 artists from all around the world. Come and be dazzled by all of it as you discover how Disney music and stories have the power to inspire and unite us all, overcoming any language or border.
