Nothing offensive. If you took it that you think you are fat then maybe you should look inward. Some of you ARE too obese to ride the rides for your safety and EVERYONE else’s! If you have to state that you “eat healthy” prior to coming then you obviously eat poorly and probably need to reevaluate life choices.
This just doesn’t feel like genuine outrage. It was a rude joke but with everything going on in the world, and the fact they deleted it, seems like just cancel culture doing its thing.
People need some better things to do than hover over twitter waiting to virtue signal. All of those tweets were far more cringe worthy than any tone deaf corporate humor.
Fatphobic? I think that’s just fine, we don’t socially approve of alcoholics or drug addicts either.
ARE YOU KIDDING? Drug Addicts want clean needles and standby nurses in safe shoot up areas to bring them back to life when they go under and woke progressives fight for that. How about providing places for fat people to eat 2 pizzas and have nurses available to preform CPR when they go into cardiac arrest? I get it. Fat people are slobs that can’t control themselves while drug addicts have a sickness that they are not responsible for.
I thought they were talking about salads being disgusting at theme parks 😂. I thought LA is kind of known for healthy eating, and theme park salads are disgusting
I agree. How is it fatphobic when they say “Skip the salad”? Wouldn’t a fatphobic comment be more like, “Skip the cookies”? Plus, it’s weird that they chose the number 9 — that’s juniors’ sizing.
I don’t find this offensive; confusing, yes, but not offensive.
It means, very literally, Hollywood sizes are far from accurate, and everyone is welcome at Universal. However, the overly sensitive twits on Twitter took it as fat-shaming. It’s not.
It was noted in Universal Florida that if you are an averaged sized American that you would not fit on many of their rides. A study was conducted. I was lucky that with my measurements that I fit, but a large portion of our population does not. It can be terribly disappointing standing in the line and then finally getting to the ride and finding out you can’t get on. My husband could not ride Avatar Flight of Passage because he was too tall. His long legs wouldn’t fit. Can’t lose weight for that. It seems that the new Tron ride will be similar in space. He’s getting in line with me for that; it is my hope that he won’t be disappointed again.
This is true. I can’t believe the actions that people take and complain about their choices when the answer was already available to them the entire time. It’s like when people buy something on Amazon and the product title itself states “For Windows devices” and you find a review rating it 1 star complaining that they waiting a week for it to come in just to find out it wouldn’t work with their Mac. There is nothing wrong about owning a Mac (or being tall), but pay attention to the obvious signs that are put right there in front of you to prevent you from ever having to bother with any of it in the first place. Maybe life wouldn’t be so hard for those people
I took it as they are either making fun of their own salad: our salad would only be a 4 in town but we rate it a 9; or they were saying their fast food style food is so good that you have to skip the salad (the thing that everyone assumes Californians are obsessed with): LA’s crispy chicken tenders are a 4 but ours are a 9. Either way this tweet clearly had to do with food and rating food. Only the truely self-obsessed could read so much into it that they felt the need to complain about “body shaming” all over the internet.
This whole comment section is disgusting. As someone with a medical issue that doesn’t let me control my weight, reading the uneducated opinions on others weight issues is atrocious. This was wrong for a company to do when a ride like Secret Life Of Pets has the WORST seats I’ve ever seen for a dark ride. And I’ve seen large chested women have a hard time on Forbidden Journey. There is just so much wrong with this and all of these ignorant people here.
It’s was a joke, maybe insensitive, but a joke. I would assume that overly tall people not fitting on rides is a rare thing, where as overweight people not fitting the attraction seats happens daily. The problem is not the seats, it is the people who overeat, are inactive, and live an otherwise unhealthy life style. Why does the world go out of their way to accommodate obesity? We are just paving the way for people to continue on that path. If you cannot fit in an attraction seat,(other than height, or other build issues like a very large chest) then it should be a wake up call. Stop allowing people to make excuses for their actions. I say this as someone who weighed 300lbs and changed my life. I know the sting of having to get off the ride, because I couldn’t fit, and the shame I felt as all eyes were on me. That walk of shame was part of my decision to do something to change, extended, and better my life. Maybe it should be a wake up call to others as well.
I don’t believe you. If you really were overweight once you would have more sympathy and understanding and would continue to demand the ride seats need to be bigger.
Baaahahaha!! Everyone needs to stop being so soft. Go ahead and leave the park. Or whine behind your computer screen. When did society become so whimpy that words hurt? Grow up.
If people paid more attention and cared about real and important things around them, people would really be outraged about Covid, vaccines, inflation, jobs, the US economy and Afghanistan.
As a fat man who doesn’t fit on many of the thrill rides I used to enjoy, I completely agree. Just make sure you don’t grow your skin so thick you no longer can squeeze your butt in the seat.
Lots of people don’t go to universal because they don’t fit in the seats. This is probably one of the reasons why they’ll never be able to compete with Disney. You can attack fat people all you want but 2/3 of Americans are fat and they have money to spend, they’re losing money with those seats. It’s like they’re designed for an Asian population instead of an American one. It’s simply a bizarre business decision.
Speaking ONLY about the comments related to this article..
So what I learned from reading all your nasty comments is: “certain” Americans love to look down their abnormally large noses at others in order to make themselves feel better about their own sad, pathetic, existence. “I may be an A##hole but at least I’m not…..” fill in the blank. A human being can fix fat, doctors can fix fat. You people are ugly. I mean you are U G L Y to your souls. There is no scalpel, drug, injection, or laser to fix that kind of UGLY. So YOU are afraid to call out criminal behavior because it “racist”, you say. However, any innocent overweight people who have committed the sin of simply existing but who have done you no wrong, gives you ugly people, the right to attack, shame, make fun of, and ridicule them ( in the form of unsolicited and unwarranted “advice” ). The excuse for this is, the health of the nation and insurance costs. If you UGLY people went after everyone’s behavior with the same gusto, maybe that pathetic excuse would hold water. But you don’t. So really you’re just try to excuse your blood deep UGLINESS. IT DOESNT WORK.

Nothing healthy about being obese
Gern Blanston
Nobody said there was anything healthy. This is about an insensitive tweet and now you, an insensitive twit!

Funny thing is SeaWorld is almost as bad, yet they weren’t called out and should have been.
But yes, Universals comment was definitely offensive.

they do have a sample of the ride vehicle at the front of each ride to confirm a fit or not.

Until its socially unacceptable to make fun of short people, I refuse to acknowledge fat shaming as an actual thing. That is all.
