When Disney Parks first announced that Splash Mountain would soon be rethemed to a The Princess and the Frog attraction, they also released concept art showing Princess Tiana wearing her iconic blue dress that she is seen in at the end of the film, alongside Louis.

Now, as more concept art is being released (seen below), some noticed that Tiana was not wearing that iconic blue dress and instead, wearing an adorable green outfit, complete with pants and boots! And now, we are learning more about why that decision was made for the upcoming attraction.

During the newly released roundtable discussion about the upcoming ride, it was brought up that Princess Tiana was wearing pants in the new concept art rather than her iconic dress, to which Charita Carter, Senior Producer for Walt Disney Imagineering, explained:

“Tiana is ready for everything and she is leading us on an adventure in the bayou, so of course, she is going to dress appropriately. Now you know, she’s regal so everything she does is beautiful, but yes she dressed appropriately for an adventure through the bayou.”

Disney Imagineering is really emphasizing how Tiana will be the leader of this attraction. In fact, in the concept art, you can see Naveen is in the boat with Tiana, but she is the one leading the way. Carter continued to explain:

“Tiana is our leader. She is leading us on the adventure so you know everything is going to end up okay.”

You can watch the full roundtable here:

At this time, we do not have a date as to when Disney will make these changes to Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Disney World, but Melissa Valiquette, Vice President of Magic Kingdom recently stated “When we are reimagining a new attraction or area, this can be a lengthy process”, indicating it could be some time before we see Tiana take over Splash Mountain.

Inside the Magic will keep you updated as we get information.

We cannot wait to see what Imagineers come up with for the “Tiana project” and will continue to update you as we get information regarding the retheme.
