I just got home to CT yesterday from a vacation to FL and Disney did a GREAT job ensuring masks were worn in all required areas. BUT, they did not enforce social distancing of any kind. I leave ample space between myself and those in line with me. I’ve never spoken to someone thats okay with a stranger standing so close to them, you can feel them exhale on you while breathing. It seems useless to stand in a line that starts outside without a mask on and other people are in line also without a mask, standing close enough you can see if they have fillings when they’re speaking, and then when the line goes inside everyone in that line then has to put masks on at that point. How is that going to help or protect a single person in any way….it’s not protecting people, it’s only annoying those who are vaccinated and/or those who don’t personally feel the masks should be mandatory and that choice should be theirs alone.
That’s my rant, thanks for listening/reading, and I welcome any feedback or opinions from another perspective, since that’s the only way we’re going to learn/grow, is if we can all respectfully communicate with each other! 😀

WTF is Disney doing? Dangerous pandemic with Florida having the highest average number of daily cases…so logically Disney World decides to increase capacity AND bring back the ever-unsanitary buffet lines? Those that choose not to mask deserve the sickness for thier insanity.

Pandemic is only dangerous to the irresponsible unAmerican non vaccinated. I agree let them get sick and then cry about on the news. Let is be an individual choice as long as our Gov. stops paying people to not work, stay home and the worker bees foot the bill. I personally am sick of it. I NEED A VACATION. I have never stopped working through this entire pandemic nightmare.

Disney did a great job last March. 25% capacity, 6 ft between you and the next guy, plexiglass everywhere, you were required to wear a mask ALL the time except when sitting down and eating. COVID 19 then is NOT COVID-19 now, it’s mutated, it’s worse not better. I love Disney but they’re being irresponsible.
I so agree with you about wearing masks outdoors. The plexiglass is down, if you give yourself 6 feet in front, the guy behind you is breathing on your neck. You bet I wore my mask everywhere and I’ll be first in line when it’s my time for the next booster!
Skyrocketing tourism means Florida Man is infecting you before you get on that plane ride home where you will continue to spread the virus unknowingly until you feel symptoms the 3 to 5 days later. Luckily most will survive – BUT not all.
I am a native but I am not a Florida Man!

We just got back from Orlando Aug 7 and masks weren’t required on rides or in lines only in indoor locations so 2 people in our family caught covid and its obvious where it came from !!! We went to animal kingdom, Universal and Disney too bad profits were put before people’s health. We tried to wear our masks when possible . 4 rides broke down while we were there people were yelling and screaming without masks on , another example. Won’t be going back for longtime if ever

I think the ones coming are ones that have been shut up too long, where even being able to walk in the parks were a no-no. Although I don’t care for Disney and I am in Florida and a Native too.
I would not have gone in there with the delta going on here. I would use wisdom and stay away from those type of parks and visited nature parks instead. Well just to let yall know Florida natives are staying away from these areas.
This is what happens when you tell people to take the vaccine and we can go back to “normal” ..No you will NEVER go back to “NORMAL “.

    THAT’S MY RANT
    DEB

    1. jo

perhaps deb. if the gov. would mandate proof of vaccination to enter anywhere, Walmart, grocery store, anywhere then the non vaccinated fools would have to stay home and then we would see if our nation could heal. No longer a personal choice, its a national crisis.

Cue the Karens and Kyles going into hysterics because after a year and a half of having their lives on hold, people are getting back to normal living instead of cowering at home in the appropriate level of Karen-approved fear. I hope those travelers are enjoying their vacations. I am wishing I could get away for one right now.

“ instead of cowering at home in the appropriate level of Karen-approved fear.”

Loaded verbiage much? So all of who are choosing to responsibly avoid being complicit in propagating further the pandemic are “cowering”?

There’s a different view. That’s the one that your false bravado is irresponsible and dangerous, and that you are contributing to illness and death. Proud of that?

      1. R.

Yep, here comes the hysteria. So should we put you down as a Karen or a Kyle then? A 99% survival rate is not false bravado. That’s just simple math. Do you choose to lock yourself down and put life on hold over the flu? No? Because that’s essentially what we are dealing with here. This thing will be like that. Periodically new strains will come out, new shots will have to be developed to keep up with it and the only groups who will bother to get the yearly shots will be the at-risk bracket and those who are really scared. No one else will bother over such a minuscule risk. (you know, just like the flu) But by all means, keep patting yourself on the back for “choosing to responsibly avoid being complicit in propagating further the pandemic” (wow and you said I had loaded verbiage, lol) and the rest of the world will keep living normally. Have a magical day!

        1. BDawg

Leave your sarcasm at the door, please (“So should we put you down as a Karen or a Kyle then?”). It adds nothing.

So a 99% survival rate is good by you? 41,000+ Floridians have died from covid. That’s good by you as well?

And you are comparing covid to the flu? The flu kills ~35,000 Americans per year. Covid has killed over 634,000 Americans. And the latest variant is particularly pernicious.

Yes, it’s very much false bravado. Please see the several deathbed lamentations from those with grave cases encouraging others to get vaccinated when they had not. And I have found that those who exhibit false bravado are often insecure at their core.

Prudence isn’t “fear,” but you and those like you label it as such just as bullies on the playground engage in name calling to try to diminish people. But knock yourself out.

And if you care to, please find a way to “get away for” that vacation you want right now. But don’t be surprised if you end up hospitalized.

And please lose the tone (“Cue the Karens and Kyles going into hysterics ,” “cowering at home in the appropriate level of Karen-approved fear.”) No one here is cowering, and no one here is getting hysterical. We’re being wise.

(You sure use “Karen” a lot. Is it something you just learned?)

          1. R.

Oh my, so much hate. Perhaps it is you who should “lose the tone”. Regarding a comparison to the flu, again, are we not already seeing new strains of Covid come through that will require new shots to be developed just as we see the latest strains of the flu requiring new vaccines every year? So far we are seeing just a little over a percent difference in the mortality rates of Covid and the Flu and those numbers are continuing to draw closer together over time as more and more people have Covid and recover. Incidentally, Covid still has about 48 million deaths to go in order to catch up to the Spanish flu, just one example of our deadlier flu outbreaks.
            Perhaps some perspective would help.
            Heart disease and cancer kill
1,261,520 people a year in the US alone (19,700,00 million globally) We still have almost a million people a year dying from AIDS related illnesses. 99% isn’t good enough? A reminder that we all have a 100% chance of dying some day. Every day we accept some level of risk or we’d never leave our homes, get in a car, take a prescription medication etc. After losing a parent to cancer at a young age, I learned not to sit on the sidelines of life. You never know when your time is coming, so rather than hide out under the bed, we’d better get out and make the most of what we have. Travel, spend time with loved ones and friends, get as many of the those things you dreamed of accomplished as possible. Don’t put your life on hold! In fact, your advice to take that vacation has inspired me to indeed look into taking another trip away this Summer. I wouldn’t worry too much about me being hospitalized though. It didn’t happen before when I had Covid this past Winter. (My medical care consisted of: Doc: “Yes, your test is positive, take Tylenol or Ibuprofin for any fever, here’s a cough medicine if needed and here’s a decongestant. Stay home for 7-10 days”) And with the end of this conversation, I will now go back to living my life normally (and hopefully planning that vacation!). Please enjoy whatever you have planned for your own day.

          2. BDawg

Who is “hid[ing] out under the bed”? Certainly not me.

You are describing as afraid or fearful prudent people who are taking reasonable precautions like deferring a vacation for (hopefully) a few weeks or months. You suggest that we are “sitting on the sidelines of life.” We aren’t. We are living great active lives, but out of caution are delaying subjecting ourselves and our families to situations that for now would expose us needless risk over entirely discretionary activities that can easily be deferred.

You are using denigrating terms like “Karen” to purposefully portray those people as hysterical. We aren’t.

One can’t help but note that you first compared covid and its variants as no worse than “the flu.”

When you were confronted with the fact that “the flu” kills ~35,000 Americans per year, while covid has already killed over 634,000 Americans, you abruptly change the discussion to compare covid to the 1918 pandemic.

The “Spanish Flu” wasn’t “the” flu. It occurred before antibiotics were widely deployed (and medical historians now hold that bacterial infections killed far more of that pandemic’s victims than did the virus).

Covid has killed almost 4.5 million people globally.

You sound to me like an arrogant bully who likes to belittle people behind the safety of your keyboard (“Cue the Karens and Kyles going into hysterics because after a year and a half of having their lives on hold,” “cowering at home in the appropriate level of Karen-approved fear,” “So should we put you down as a Karen or a Kyle then?”) And that’s a shame.

      2. R.

Yep, and here comes the hysteria. Should we put you down as a Karen or a Kyle then? A 99% recovery rate is not false bravado, it is just simple math. Do you lock yourself down and put life on hold over the flu, because that’s essentially what we are dealing with here. This thing will be like that. Periodically we will have new strains show up that new shots will have to be developed for to keep up. The only people to get the yearly shots will be the at-risk bracket, or the very scared. No one else will bother because of the minuscule risk. (you know, just like the flu) But by all means, you keep patting yourself on the back for “choosing to responsibly avoid being complicit in propagating further the pandemic” (wow, and you said I had loaded verbiage, lol) and the rest of the world will keep living normally. Have a magical day!

      3. I think that all the tourists should just stay home. This is our home and we are still trying to cope with the delta variant. Its an unprecedented time and the health infrastructure cannot support the tourist and the snowbirds as well as the residents of this state. Its time to start showing compassion foe our fellow man. People are dying.

As a nation, our blind adherence to FUN as the greatest imperative of life is driving us to behave like lemmings racing to destruction. All the efforts of dedicated scientists, (some) politicians, health authorities, and medical personnel to save us will be useless as “Carpe diem” becomes the cry of the self-destructive hordes bent on frivolity vs. reality. Unfortunately, they’re going to take the rest of us with them.

  6. Tamara

The non-believers and consperincy believers will once again close down Disney and travel for those of us that were not afraid of wearing masks and getting the vaccine.

  7. M.

We can’t hide and stop our lives. I have personally gone to Disney about 12 times since it reopened in July 2020 and have not once gotten sick. It’s been awesome. Let’s get back to normal!
