It’s going to make a major negative impact on the DAS. I am glad that they are putting it on the App to cut down on long lines at Guest Services but it’s stressful already and we can only book 2 Return times.
What you need to do is actually restrict that system because there already to much abuse. If your handicap one family member accompanies you. Not 20 people because they are part of your group. They can get on the line with everybody else. Now that Disney is going to use class to distinguish who rides and who doesn’t this is going to get a whole lot angrier in the parks. Just wait till people start jeering at this passing them on the line.
They actually don’t allow 20, I believe the max is 6. My handicap husband & I go along with 2 children. We also have friends where the husband and son-in-law are handicapped (RA so bad he needs crutches to walk) and they were both denied handicap privileges even though they both have visible disabilities and handicap state parking certificates.
I have multiple sclerosis, I look like anyone else but inside my body screams in pain 24/7. This DAS program does not allow disabled people to jump ahead to the front of a line. The ride wait time is noted as say 45 minutes so the program assigns you to return in 45 minutes it’s just a place saver in the line but the same long wait as everyone else not a free fast pass at all. No one should be upset at those using this feature. You can only use one at a time by the way. You cannot sign up for two rides. And you must go to that specific ride cast member entry booth to ask to be given a come back time and that in itself is hard if the ride you want is on the opposite side of the park. Being disabled I sit waiting on a nearby bench vs standing in line that’s all but my time is the same as those without a fast pass. But my needing to actually go to that specific ride to arrange this is exhausting. A lot of times they are out of wheel chairs and the scooters are way too expensive to rent. If I get on 2 popular rides and maybe see 2 non ride attractions that’s it , I’m too much in pain to stay at the parks longer than 3 hours 4 max , walking my hips gring like bone on bone to my leg joint, my lost muscle mass makes walking hard and standing near impossible due to poor balance and weakness. I’ve been called names and spit on accused of faking that I look fine. I need a handicap stall in bathrooms same issue with a led body people assuming because they can’t see my disability like an amputee without legs or something that surely I can do the same as they are. I’m not getting a free fast pass,. I’m not making it faster through a line. But it allows me a small window to enjoy the parks for a very short time vs an entire day most able bodied people can complain about enjoying but dislike waiting in line which are long at any theme park but especially the big named ones like Disney. So before you make a wrong judgement on a person think how they probably feel embarrassed looking so young yet suffering daily inside not any day at the park or not is a without pain and a struggle to do what you take for granted because it’s normal. By the time I’m at my limit I’m cringing in pain trying to walk so yeah be sure to complain how I’m getting something you don’t get, do you now still want want it and do you really want what I have being in pain all the time and trying to smile to share fun times with my family because it’s so unfair you don’t have that pain I do, my so called fake free fast pass and privileged disability? Maybe think twice before assuming and oh only 1 person can ride with me so I don’t have to ride alone next to strangers. So if I want to share the day with family it’s not on the best rides by a long shot.
You get two advance DAS entries when you use the video chat, but you can still book additional DAS return times, one at a time, in the app once you’re in the park.
I don’t see how it’s a negative impact; DAS users are getting to do something for free that everyone else in the park will have to pay for.
We have used DAS for each visit to the park and have to spend 30-40 minutes for guest services. I think this change could be good but does open it up to more abuse. It would be nice if they added functionality to keep the DAS in your file so you don’t have to re-enroll each and every time you visit Disney for lifetime disabilities.
We’ve used DAS for years for our son (we’re local now). If you hit guest services in the morning the line usually isn’t that long. And now they have strategically placed blue umbrella guest services throughout the parks. The most we wait is minutes. It’s easy to reactivate a DAS after each vacation or for us every 60 days. Just say you need to renew a DAS and it’s super easy for them to bring up past info.
It will be nice not having to drive all the way over to the attraction just to get a come back time, now I can get it on my phone and just show up at a certain time.
that’s the part i like I would have to go to the attraction for my son while he was sitting down somewhere and would not think we were riding the ride right then. Now we can keep him busy while we wait.
We have used DAS in our past trips. Sometimes it works well, other times not. My husband is a 100% disabled veteran. He sometimes uses a cane and depending on how bad he is feeling, a EVC, but he also keeps in shape and does not ‘look’ disabled. We have been questioned by people! People need to realize that some have heart or lung problems! Not all disabilities show! I think this new system sounds good and you should have to present a disabled card or letter from a physician for access to it.
If you read on the actual WDW FAQs page regarding the DAS and the new changes , you’ll see that they are requiring video chat with a cast member still to get the DAS in advance. Also, it states if Disney finds you to be lying you get a lifetime ban from all parks. People lie in person and they lie online. I doubt both will change. However I do not think this will open the door for more potential fraud. They are still interviewing people for the DAS to access the need.
Comments for BIG Changes Coming to Disney’s Disability Access

Great idea Disney – incentivize abuse of the disability system. What could possibly go wrong?

Of course they were denied a DAS, because the accommodation for mobility issues is a wheelchair or ECV.
