It is already difficult to get a ROTR boarding group and Disney are now making it MORE difficult in pursuit of the $$$$$$.
Every person that pays via Disney Genie will result in a person not getting a free boarding group.

    1. beaverlakeman

you are exactly right. might as well make every ride pay to play at least then everyone has the same chances.

    2. Ruby

That mess up your gona lose alot of people to the chep team park. Specially since you don’t pay attention to rude, smoking, and peopl that don’t move when you have a stroller .

    3. Chrispy

I think we are greatly overestimating the number of people who will actually use this. I think it will have minimal impact on queue waits.

      1. Nancy C Thorsby

        Of course it will!!

  2. N.

Oh yes “THRILLING” to be able to shell out even MORE money. So now it will be even more difficult to get in ROTR if I don’t have the extra funds to just buy my spot in line. How very *considerate* of them to enable people to just buy themselves places in line in a ride that only a few can manage to get on in the first place.

    1. Jennifer

Back in 70s/80s you would pay a small admission price and then buy tickets or ticket books for the rides. Maybe go back to that type of system. Have a low admission price and then pay for the rides you want to go on. But paying an expensive admission price and then paying more to go on the rides, no thanks.

      1. Roberr

I have thought this for a long time now. I love to enjoy the atmosphere of the parks, food, smells and shopping. During our adult only trips rides are the last thing we worry about

  3. Frostysnowman

Funny, I thought we ALREADY paid to ride Rise of the Resistance – when we bought our park tickets. Silly me!

    1. Tony Poweleit

This is really disappointing Disney. Already hard enough for a family of 4. 500 for one day and now they want more of my money.

  4. Julie

    How is this equity?

    1. No

      It’s not it’s capitalism

      1. Phoebe L Ho

        Rotten capitalism

  5. Not at all clear why we should be excited about this. All the good rides will require an additional charge or you’ll miss out. They’ll be two tiers of Disney attenders, those that can afford to ride ROTR, and those that end up on Carousel of Progress.

    1. Joel

There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow

  6. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! Not to mention I will spend even MORE time on my phone which takes away from enjoying the park with my family. I am so disappointed with all the preplanning that must take place months before I get there and more daily planning while I’m there! How is this a vacation? All about the money not the experience….come on Disney you can do better…

    1. Jo shmoe

Doesn’t surprise me. It’s all about the money. Forget about the little guy as long as they get paid

  7. Kasi

If it’s anything like the Paris park options, this is awful for families. Some of those options are close to $20 a person to ride one ride, for a family of 5 that’s $100. It’s just not a smart way to spend your money at Disney. It’s very disappointing.

Years ago, we lived in FL when Disney opened. Went as often as we could and when my son was born, we got FL resident passes. We loved going! My son, now a father of 3 himself, planned a Disney vacation this past April. It was a year in the process and booked as one of their “package” deals; you know stay onsite for more advantages, do a park a day, etc. He and I were SO excited at sharing this fondly remembered experience with his 3 children, my grands. Sadly, it was a VERY different experience than we remembered and not in a good way. Yes, cast members were still wonderfully helpful and the parks were still magical looking but we felt constantly rushed the whole 4 days, since we had to book so much in advance (rides, meals, etc). We were fortunate to get on ROTR our first attempt but because 3 of us kept trying to frantically get in queue right @7:00 a.m. ! As others have said, you’re already paying for admission with the expensive ticket prices. What Disney seems to be saying now is “that’s not enough!” If you REALLY want to get on the ride and not wait your turn, bb tyou can pay us even more! Pretty soon, regular middle class folks will be priced right out of the market… NOT what Walt Disney had in mind. I’m 66 now and had hoped to go 1 more time again, to experience the magic but now it just seems like any other pay to play thing. Do you REALLY need more money, Disney? If only Walt could see what you’ve made of his dream.

    1. Mickey Fleecing Mouse

      Exactly!!!!!

    2. Aaron

Gentrification is a problem. Walt wanted to make money but he also wanted to allow all families to be able to enjoy the park together. Not just rich families. I paid a lot of money to visit with my wife on our honeymoon and frankly it wasn’t worth it due to COVID19 restrictions (I think disneyworld is handling the pandemic wonderfully but it did change the experience). Had we waited hours in line watching people pause extra just to make us wait longer. We already watched differently abled people get their entire families past waiting lines which is ridiculous. Let the differently abled person go with one helper but not a whole family.

    3. sam

Totally agree! Our children and grandchildren went with us when they reopened Disneyland and the “magic” for us just wasn’t there. Too much planning and stressing to try and get the ROTR ride, which we never got because the day we were there they shut the ride down all day. This is not the vision Walt Disney had. The admission is already exorbitant and adding fees for this and fees for that is just price gouging.

  9. James

To have a good time at Disney I Use to have at least six fast passes a day. Now people might be so busy on there I phones they might be bumping into other people and forget to enjoy the beauty around them.

  10. Joey

Disney has us pay for quick access so we have more time to spend on food and trinkets. Our Happy place is not so happy anymore. Iger needs to find new work.

    1. Cody

Iger doesn’t work for Disney anymore. He left December 2020.

      1. JG

And this has Bob chapek’s fingerprints all over it. Disney used to take pride that fastpass was not a paid option, unlike other parks. But good old Rob Paycheck saw there was more money to squeeze out and there’s nothing he loves more than money, so here we are.

  11. Kelly Connerton

The really sad part about this is there are people who will pay to ride it. I’m glad I gave up my annual pass.

  12. Cassy

This is the final thing to officially kill the magic, after a multitude of disappointments and money grabs. I will NEVER pay for this service, they won’t get extra from me like that. I’d rather just wait and even miss out on some things than cave to a corporation that continues to ruin things I used to love or that makes lame new lands/nighttime shows/etc.

We are furious over this entire paid Genie + thing and the outrageous Holiday Party prices.

We finally decided to book a Christmas trip at Disney so our grown children could experience Disney at Christmas.

Since we are there over Christmas, the Holiday Party options for us is $249 per person, so over $1000 for a 4 hour party. NOPE not paying it even though it was going to be one of the big nights of our trip.

Now paid Fast Pass above the $7000 shelled out for our 2 weeks down there.

I’ll be honest, I will pay for Rise Of The Resistance because it is the only thing that our family wants to ride in the parks and we never had a chance on 3 previous trips recently.

But this is the end of our family and Disney.
35 years of over 50 visits since my childhood and they have finally pushed me to my limit with the nickel and diming.

We will no longer visit Disney theme parks. We will take our vacation dollar elsewhere and to Universal if we do come back to the Orlando area. Our family thinks Universal has been outdoing Disney in recent years anyway.
We always saw Disney as the park for kids and families, but now they have shifted their target customer to the wealthy, damn the kids.

  14. Leslie

As DVC members, we were looking forward to all the years taking the growing family to Disney for the rest of our lives. We are so disappointed in the steeply rising costs of going to a park. We already pushed back the big trip for everyone to get to Star Wars, but now we have to wonder if the young families will be able to afford it. This is no longer the fun family experience that Walt dreamed of for all of us.

  15. Sue

The correct title for this article should be Guest Will Now Have to Pay Extra to Ride this Star Wars attraction.
Very disappointing. Just have an advanced reservation system.

  16. N. Gneiding

Unbelievable rip off!!! Thinking of cancelling my trip.

  17. Michael Smith

have been going to WDW for most of my life. old now and think disney is no longer part of the vacation experience for me and my friends. they have become to greedy and does not represent a family trip.

  18. Nancy Thorsby

As a long time DVC owner and annual pass bearer, I am extremely disappointed in the way this is going! It would appear to be heading to only an exclusive few being able to afford this! We have decided to sell our timeshare with DVC. It has become just about the money for this company, no longer about the magic! We are done!!

  19. Amy Carmona

As a mother of a special needs child I’m wondering how this will affect those of us who use a DAS pass! Will this make our wait time longer on the rides that Genie + will be used for? We are annual pass holders and this may be the end of us shelling our money out to a company who doesn’t value us.

    1. Cynthia

DAS will work the same as Fast Pass does now. You will get a return time. The main difference is you can pre-register online with a video conference before you go and pre assign up to 2 attractions each day for DAS use.

  20. Marie

So sorry the direction Disney is taking, it is the park for millionaires. They increases park prices every year yet they decrease what that ticket gives you. We have witness how attractions are deteriorating, and how beloved attractions are being updated to match their movies and therefore loosing all the magic that Mr Walt Disney himself and his imagineers put into them. I’ve been visiting Disney since 1975 and this year might be my last. I simply can not afford it anymore!

    1. Dave

Unreal. I have a been a Annual Pass Holder for 5 years. No more Disney, going back to Universal. You no longer take care of your loyal customers…

  21. Joseph

What a joke .. so spend more money to be able to ride rides without an over hr wait… Maybe Disney can charge more to park my car too… I need more ways to waste money… Oh let’s charge 5 dollars for a bottle of water….

  22. Barbara Belzer

I’m just not going. They are getting disgustingly greedy. Pay to.park at resorts after they’ve raised all the rates ? I was there when it opened and many times since. No more.

    1. Mickey Fleecing Mouse

Feel the same way. Enough is enough.

  23. Phoebe L Ho

Despite resenting what it took away (a smooth ride down Rivers of America, the original and best Fantasmic) I rode Rise of the Resistance once and had my mind totally blown.

Unfortunately with this new system coming in, once will have to do.

    1. Mj

Heads up Knotts Berry Farm add some more color to your theme park. You will surely be getting more customers leaving Disney.

  24. Mickey Fleecing Mouse

Screw this noise. These parks are not the parks I grew up with and loved. I’m done.

  25. Mickey Fleecing Mouse

Go ahead keep removing negative comments. I’ve seen at least a dozen get removed so far. This is garbage.

  26. Jeb L

I’m going to provide a slightly different opinion. I went to DHS in February 2020 primarily just for RotR. I barely made it on before park close because despite following every last tip and trick to get a boarding group, I was assigned in the upper 100s. I think charging for fast pass is a disgusting money grab but given the option of paying for a guaranteed boarding group, I’d be 100% on board. That all being said, I do feel for those who wouldn’t have the funds to pay extra as I’d have to take someone’s slot. It’s a situation where the resource (riders in a day) is scarce and unfortunately that only benefits the greedy (Disney).

  27. Walt's Dead Body

Greedy ba$tards should be tossed into the Sarlacc pit.

  28. Amelia Weaver

Very disappointed in the new plan. We are annual pass holders and feel that we will no longer be able to have equal access to rides. Disney seems to be forgetting about their faithful followers in order to make more money. Not sure we will renew our passes. So sad!

  29. Nancy C Thorsby

Honestly you can stay at the Hotels on Universal property and spend less for a family of four with a really nice room, all with coffee makers and tickets to both parks for a family of four for less than a moderate room at one of the Disney properties. And for a few dollars more add their equivalent to Disneys’s fast pass for a one time pass to all your favorite attractions. Disney is just not worth it any more. If your make people pay more, they need to get more!! Personal service, kindness, friendliness are all gone from WDW!!

  30. Banny

We have been DVC Members since 1993 & Annual Passholders even longer. I am so disgusted with Disney’s latest money grab. This is geared towards the once in a lifetime the sky’s the limit vacationers, not the loyal base who return time & time again. Heartbreaking

  31. Julian Herring

So more charges to an already extremely expensive holiday. Great job Disney, now we have to pay for overnight parking when staying on property, reduced Disney magic hours in the Parks unless you stay in a delux hotel. No Disney dining plan, have to book park entry to get into a park, soon to be no Disney express from the airport, no more fast passes and reduced menu options, a lack of street entertainers and so on and so on. Disney you killed the magic, and are pricing yourself out of the market, and now you want to charge for the blooming Genie and lightning passes etc WTF I’ll stay I. UNIVERSAL NEXT TIME Disney will if they are lucky only get 2 or 3 days out of me NOT 14.

  32. Mike Char

BOB CHAPEK IS A GREEDY TAINT!!!!
    This is absolutely ridiculous!
They are just gouging people and making it so the average person will no longer be able to go to Disney unless it’s just to walk the park.
What in the ever loving hell???
Man I really hope they can bring Walt back to life our of his cryogenic state so he can kick Bob in the teeth.
    I’m so mad
I’m so disenchanted with Disney anymore and it was always a place filled with magic for me.
Now it’s the all mighty dollar that wins
