Mask or Vaccine Passports at Disney

  1. Drew

I’d be happy to show my vax card as part of my resort check-in. But I will never wear a mask to a Disney park, and I will cancel my upcoming trip if asked to. Frankly, unvaccinated people have no right to ask anything of vaccinated people at this point. They do, however, have every right to mask up without judgement and keep themselves and their kids under 12 at home until things get better or they feel safe.

    1. Bob Franklin

      Well said sir

      1. CJ

Unvaccinated people have just as much voice as vaccinated people do. Since you don’t know the circumstances of those choosing not to vaccinate, you don’t have a leg to stand on. And if your vaccination works, what’s your problem?

        1. jo

the problem is the irresponsible non vaccinated are making is impossible for the responsible vaccinated to move on mask free with living our lives. I say if you are not vaccinated stay home. I will show my vacc. card to Disney as long as I am mask free.

    2. Erin

Drew not really sure what you think unvaccinated people are asking vaccinated people to do . . . . I’m unvaccinated and I could care less if you are or not. I’m not asking anything of you. It’s still so amazing how everyone that is vaccinated is so worried about everybody else. I mean you’re vaccinated, aren’t you protected? It goes to show how much faith you have in the vaccine.

      1. Drew

“Everyone,” really? I don’t know why I’m taking the bait here, but I have complete faith in the vaccine, and the numbers prove it. It has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion. It’s why I don’t wear a mask anymore when I’m in crowds. Many unvaccinated people are expecting vaccinated people to mask up again for their protection. I happen to think it’s wrong. And when did I suggest I was concerned about my protection, or “everybody else,” whatever that means? I support your right to protect yourself however you want, just don’t expect me live your lifestyle based on your choices.

        1. Erin

Ha! That’s where you’re wrong. I don’t know any unvaccinated people expecting vaccinated people to mask up again. ZERO! And that’s great advice “I support your right to protect yourself however you want, just don’t expect me live your lifestyle based on your choices.” Tell that to rest of the vaccinated people please who are doing exactly that . . . . expecting the unvaccinated to get vaccinated based on their choices. And thanks again for giving me the right to mask up without judgement and to stay at home until things get better or I feel safe . . . . I feel safe, mask is in the garbage. (please google “UK fully vaccinated hospitalizations” or “Isreal fully vaccinated hospitalizations”)

          1. Drew

Zero? Did you even read this article?Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure you’ve outed yourself as an unvaccinated, unmasked Disney park guest, so good luck there.

          2. G.

Ha ha, “outed herself”. As if she needed to be ashamed. Give the virtue signaling a break Karen.

          3. Drew

Actually, I don’t care what she does. They’re Disney’s rules, not mine. But to brazenly spit in their face isn’t cool in my book. I guess you’re good with that kind of behavior, though. My stance is simply that I’d rather show a vax card than mask up. In case you didn’t read the article either.

          4. G.

Drew, little hint: Disney doesn’t care. If they did they would require something instead of doing this “wink, wink, nod, nod, sure you need to be vaccinated to not be required to wear a mask, thanks for bringing your dollars back to the park, have a magical day!”

      2. You’re amazed that people care about the health of OTHERS? Only sociopaths don’t care about other people.
And if you look at it purely economically, Vaccines are cheap. The cost of medical treatment, hospitalization, and funerals are high. Anybody in your Health Insurance plan that comes down with serious Covid symptoms is draining the money that YOU paid into the system.
        Think about it.

        1. V.

          Extremely well said Paul.

        2. Allan

          STFU

        3. jo

Maybe it not about you Paul. Its about doing what’s right for our country. Saw on world news this morning when getting for work. 87% of Covid rush in Mississippi are non vaccinated. 91% of the covid dead were non vaccinated. This has to stop. Biden should mandate every business in every place requiring proof of vacc. to enter store. Walmart and Target deliver to homes now. Not vacc. is your choice but for the sake of our country,, stay home.

      3. jo

By not being vaccinated you are allowing this pandemic to continue running through our Country. If you don’t want to be part of the vaccination solutions to heal our country, then stay home and isolated until it passes. I am vaccinated and I am getting pretty sick of being punished by the non vaccinated irresponsibility.

    3. Donna

You need to run for president! I agree! Im done giving in to idiots who can be adult enough to get a shot. But yet want to make everyone do a mask because of their stupidity.

      1. donna for vice president

Yes please! Anything would be an improvement over the bumbling idiot that we have in there now! Since you seem so intelligent you should be the vice president!

    4. Sue

Drew. It’s not unvaccinated people it’s your so called government that told you to get the vaccine so you will not get sick. And you believed them and got it. So now they are telling you to wear a masks if you got the shot or not. So what does that tell you. ?? You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. The vaccine doesn’t work. If it did they what are you worried about if someone who isn’t vaccinated doesn’t wear a masks you should be safe according to your government. And the wonderful Dr.F.

      1. Drew

Actually, it’s pretty much all the highly intelligent, successful people in this country that got it, not the government, that inspired me to get it. Along with a circle of close, personal friends from childhood that are now amazing doctors.

        1. Eric

The poster “Drew” is one of the most arrogant, ignorant posters I have ever seen on these articles. Not only is he completely wrong about the facts, he is all for tyrannical restrictions on a LARGE part of this country.

His ideas about the virus are illogical and are mere parrots of what he hears on TV.

      2. Beverly

My adult life are both health care providers employed by hospitals. Every day they are patients who have NOT been vaccinated on vents. You know what they ask, can I get the vacine? And they have to be told sorry, too late now. But it is your choice you keep saying, so I’m up to yo u. But I think the day will come when it will be mandatory for school, work and to visit places like Disneyworld. Why? Because some peop!e are simply stupid! They have to be protected from their own bad judgement , for the good of all.

        1. CJ

Not all people who choose not to “vaccinate” are stupid. Having survived covid in not going to vaccinate. It’s a flu, albeit more intense than a regular flu. But just because governed says”vaccinate” doesn’t mean I will because I don’t quite trust Fauci. And I’ve had this discussion with relatives who are doctors, with all my doctors (I’m seeing 4 due to health issues) and have discussed treatment should I contract it again. It IS survivable.

    5. Victor Nazarian

I’m wondering why there is so little clinical or scientific information on the effectiveness of run-of-the-mill masks at saving lives from coronavirus. None of the masks people are wearing, even the N95 style, appear to have any official rating on virus ‘communication’ prevention and even when used by professionals they appear to only work to approximately 70% against bacterial and mold spores which are much larger and easier to stop than virus particles in water droplets. It often seems like people are using the equivalent of a heavy leather jacket in a combat situation and acting like it’s as good as Kevlar body armor.

    6. The *Real* Colorado Paul

I wasn’t going to get pulled into this conversation, but when I read Colorado Paul’s “contribution”, I had to jump in. I’m the *real* Colorado Paul. Have been and shall continue to be. 😉

He says, “but when it comes down to putting chemicals in your body that are advertised as being 90% effective (but numbers now show that to be a lot lower) to fight off a virus that has over a 99% survivability rate,” it just shows how much he’s wrong. Pfizer and Moderna are closer to 95% effective at both preventing the disease and reducing symptoms and death if COVID-19 is contracted. He should actually look at the science, not someone’s blog or biased “news” service.

Overall death rate is about 1.8%, not less than 1% (610K deaths/34.3M cases). But that’s an overall average. Someone over age 85 is 600x more likely to die than a 20-29 year old. Someone 30-39 is 4x more likely to die. And this doesn’t even get into the medical costs of treatments, the impacts to our medical professionals taking care of everyone, including the deniers, some of whom literally were denying the disease existed just before an intubation tube was jammed down their throat and they subsequently died.

Get vaccinated. If you medically can’t, protect yourself as best you can. If you won’t get vaccinated for other reasons, thank you for participating in Darwin’s great experiment. COVID-19, The Red Plague.

      1. Erin

95% effective ??? I suggest you take your own advice and actually look at the science and not someone’s blog or biased “news” service. Feel free to read the reports of hospitalization rates for the fully vaccinated in the UK and Israel.

      2. ethan

Ha! the *real* colorado paul! well mr alter you are part of the problem. Hear you are telling people to get vaccinated. Are you a doctor? Please tell me what youre qualifications are for giving complete strangers medical advice. Im dying to hear it. NOBODY should be getting medical advice from politicians, the media, or most of all, a commentor on a website forum. Like the *fake” colorado paul says, theres plenty of information out there for a grown adult to make an informed decision. If the govt really wanted to help people they should have told everybody that they would pay for a consultation with their own physician to find out if the vaccine was right for them or not and if so they would pay for it. that should have been the end of the conversation, but you go ahead and keep pretending that you know everybody’s individual situations and that you know whats best for them (thx for not throwing race into it, thats a first for you)

      3. Victor Nazarian

Where did you get your numbers or, for that matter your seemingly flawed understanding of the numbers? When you posted, “Overall death rate is about 1.8%, not less than 1% (610K deaths/34.3M cases).” Did you realize that 34.3 ‘cases’ is not the total number of cases of COVID. That 34.4 figure is only the number of positive tests, not the overall number of people who got COVID. Only a small fraction of people who got COVID actually got a test during the 3-4 weeks when they might have triggered a positive result.

The CDC has often acknowledged that the vast majority of cases in the US look place with the individuals never experiencing serious symptoms nor getting tested. Estimated number of cases in the US has been between 80M and 170M according to a variety of sources (CDC, Hopkins, etc.). That puts the mortality rate of infected individuals between 0.75% and 0.34%.

Also, where did you get those, “over age 85 is 600x more likely…” figures? Older people are indeed more vulnerable but even my colleagues from my time working at NIH and Hopkins (or at NASA or FAA) don’t use big round numbers like that except in ROM estimations.

    7. Eric

LOL. Hilarious. I’m ready for your next joke.

  2. Ha

This poll is irrelevant. The million dollar question is this: will mandating vax passport increase or decrease profits? The answer to that question is obvious.

    1. Kaya

Disney fans will sell their souls for 2 mins with Mickey. Nothing will affect profit.

  3. Tamara

Doesn’t matter what “you” want. It’s whatever Disney wants. They have proved this over and over again.

  4. Sue

You people who had gotten the vaccine did you ever ask yourself why are people getting sick if they are vaccinated? Where is the proof that this vaccine works Bc the government said so. Do your homework. It’s not proven it works. But if you think you are safe then why are you worried if someone who is not doesn’t have a masks on. ? You are vaccinated right so you will not get sick right ? Well let the government control what you can and can’t do Bc that’s what they are doing. And if you believe evothe government tells you or the media then you are part of the problem

    1. Tad

Sue, we’ve read a number of your posts and they appear to be the same person because the underlying theme seems to be the same. Don’t trust the government or the media regarding the virus, wearing masks, social distancing, basic hygiene, the vaccine, etc. So where do you get information that you feel is trustworthy? And how do you know that the purveyors of that information are correct in their assertations? Aren’t the effectiveness studies conducted or funded by the “government” agencies? Aren’t the polls conducted by the “media”. Just curious? BTW, you’ve left out how all the pharmaceutical companies are getting “rich” off the vaccine. 🙂

    2. Beverly

With any vaccine there will always be a very small percentage of people who still get ill. The vast majority of people getting the virus are not vacinated . Surely you can’t be that dumb.

  5. Ken

This is exactly what the Democrats want, us at odds with each other. We should all be at odds against and fight the federal and state government that are causing this battle between us on many fronts. None of this back and forth would be going on if you vote R next time.

  6. Nick

Uncomfortable? Understatement. I’m in my 30s. I’m a gym rat. All I do is work out.

I was there in early June. Standing in line for slinky dog. Giant plexiglass walls. Air wasn’t moving. Heat and humidity. I was on the verge of passing out. The amount of kids I saw being carried by their parents as they were sleeping at 1pm (total heat exhaustion) was amazing.

But luckily. One amazing blade headed disney worker jumped out of the bushes and screamed at a dad carrying his 5 year old son because as his son slept on his shoulder… the mask slipped below his nose.

The amount of Disney workers like that bald jerk who got off yelling at guests was unreal. I’m done with Disney after that waste of 10k. Worst vacation ever.

    1. Ron

Hmmm, Early June, central Florida, heat and humidity, who could have guessed that would happen? Work out all the time, live in an air conditioned gym like a rodent, affected by high heat and humidity, who could have guessed that would happen? Privately held company mandates masks for anyone over 3 years old, hundreds of signs and announcements reminding customers of the mandate, employees tasked to remind customers of the mandate, who would have guessed that would happen? Small children up early and out of their routine in the heat and humidity, rushing from ride to ride, having to be carried by their parents by early afternoon, who could have guessed that would happen? Spending 10k on a vacation without understanding it would be hot and humid, there was a mask mandate in place, employees would be doing their job and expecting something different, who could have guessed that would happen???

      1. M.G.

You feeling like a big, tough man now Ron? Wow…rude.

        1. Ron

Yep, thanks for reading and commenting M.G.

    2. J Kang

Are you that dude who got banned from Disney for refusing to take temperature?

  7. FAFO

I say if we start getting vax passports, we start shooting. you want a GD war? LFG then

    1. The *Real* Colorado Paul

I love how proud boyz, MAGA hats, and alt-right conservatives assume us liberals aren’t armed and trained in their use.

  8. Chris

Honestly, enough is enough, we need to reject mask mandates completely. Let the government suggest when they should be worn, but not require them, that is overstepping their bounds.

And no, we shouldn’t have to show proof of vaccination to do things. I know I will get a lot of flack for this, but consider this:
The Holocaust didn’t start with killing Jewish people or any other group, it started with them requiring people to register and show “papers please” and evolved from there. Hopefully it wouldn’t go down the same route, but I can easily see how it could evolve from please show proof of vaccination to if you aren’t vaccinated, you should be shot and that would be WRONG.

That being said, those who are not getting vaccinated are making a choice and should have to live with the consequences of their choice, it shouldn’t be up to me to put on a mask to protect them.

    1. Drew

I hear you, and I’d rather not show too, given the choice. But it’s a vax card – just like every school has required from all of our kids forever to attend. And this is Disney, not the government. I don’t see the slippery slope so much.

  9. There is an old saying that opinions are like aholes everybody has one, “butt” I digress, I know Disney is trying to keep crowds down by having the park reservation system, but to keep the dollar spent per guest up so one way is to require all guests to provide proof of vaccination which they can enforce since they are a private company and with less crowds and everyone vaccinated they would be able to safely open up all the high priced restaurants and shops as well as starting back up the annual passes, sounds like a win win for Disney and for the safety of their guests and cast members.

  10. Kim N

I definitely would never visit again if they start requiring a vaccine passport. Everyone has their own opinion so no need for people to jump on me.My husband, his 85 year old mom and myself all had Covid and survived. No one should be forced to get a passport. There will always be another “Variant”.. This is not communist Cuba.

    1. Enraged Karen comment in 3,2,1...

Exactly Kim, there will always be another variant (or new strain if you prefer). This thing will be like the flu. Every year some amount of people will get it and every year some small percentage of those people will die and only a certain amount of people who are at increased risk or just scared will bother to get the newest flu/covid shot. Time to learn to live with it folks, it isn’t going away. Normality goes on.

  11. J Kang

Anti vaxxers and propaganda folks should be banned from Disney World permanently. People are dying from Delta variant for not taking vaccines and that’s their price of consequences.

Lot of other countries are taking vaccines because they know the virus is dangerous. Even South Korea follows the rules on taking vaccines because they know not taking one is a risk.

    1. Sirocco

If they are facing the price of their consequences as you say, then why ban them? If you truly believe this particular vaccine will protect you, then you should be fine and they will reap the harvest of their own choices whatever those consequences may or may not be. This sounds more like your problem with them not conforming to whatever Orwellian Doublethink you feel they need to be marching in lockstep to. In any case, Disney isn’t going to ban anyone. They like money too much.

      1. J Kang

You do realize that the trials for infants and kids are still not confirmed for vaccination, right? So who should be punished, the kids who can’t get vaccination vs the adults who refuses to get vaccination and has delta variant?

Money is great, but if it causes death, that’s something Disney do not want to take up the burden.

        1. Sirocco

You do realize that infants and kids are not at any significant risk don’t you? They are the least affected age bracket. For instance in the US, states reported between 0.00% and 0.03% of deaths were children. (American Academy of Pediatrics) Kids are not being punished and Disney isn’t going to need to worry about any burden of causing any child Covid deaths.

          1. jo

kids are being punished. Due to the irresponsible non vaccinated, Disney has no parades, no meet and greet to hug Mickey or buzz ect. No character dining. No real magic at all. Our country is hanging in the balance to accommodate the irresponsible non vacc.

  12. Al

MASKS for sure!!! 🙂 no ifs ands or buts about it. a small price to pay to keep ourselves and everyone around us safe. as long as we can continue to enjoy the disney magic 🙂

    1. jo

OR the best idea is for those of responsible enough care for our Country and are vaccinated can go Disney and show vacc. card. The non vacc. can do their part for our Country and stay home, isolated until we are past pandemic. Vaccinated should be rewarded, non vaccinated should simply stay home.

  13. Eric

All this “poll” shows is that a large portion of Disney fanatics don’t know any basic facts of the virus, transmission, and treatments and are will accept anything if it allows them to ride Splash Mountain.

Neither of these options are acceptable.

I didn’t go during the “mask mandate” and if they go back to it or to the yellow star vaccine passports, I won’t go again.

Despite what those who got the vaccine think, they can’t really explain why they got it, what it does to their body and what benefit they received. They got played because of their ignorance and their blind acceptance of anything they heard on tv without giving two seconds to think whether any of this made sense.

Disney instituted the mask mandates because they were scared of liability and because their Chinese financial backers wanted them to. And if they go back to them or vaccine passports, it will be because of the fascist (by definition) relationship with the current regime.

Either way, neither policy makes ANY sense if you just thought about it. But if you can’t think critically, there’s nothing any of us can do for you.

  14. Pixie

Unfortunately, not everyone is able to be vaccinated. I have an autoimmune disease and am “healthy” unless I’m in a flare-up. But my meds to keep me “healthy” will reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine between 30-50% and my specialist isn’t sure if there could be other issues. So until there is more data and clinical trials, he suggests I hold off on the vaccine and stay masked up. If they require a vaccine passport, I won’t be able visit unless they have some type of exception. But then asking people about their medical issues could become an issue where someone sues them for HIPAA violations. Either way, they will never make everyone happy so at the end of the day, whatever they do we will all have to abide by or not visit.

  15. JMG

My preference is vaccine passports for all eligible or “trusted agent” issued exemption of vaccine ineligibility and masks for those ineligible.
