Why is there such an absence of data that show run of the mill masks prevent COVID death? Even clinical grade masks only stop approximately 70% of bacteria when used by trained professionals, disposed of every 4 hours. Those bacterial particles are between 600% and 8,000% larger than the water particles that are considered a primary danger for communication of COVID. It’s been 18 months and the only studies available show only a tiny percentage, up to 8.3%, reduction in the particle saturation around a user which means they are not effective at reducing the particle count below the saturation threshold of particle emission around that user. For run of the mill fabric masks that tiny percentage reduction is near or at zero.

Where is the science behind these mask mandates after 18 months of study? Why is the dangerous problem of septic sinus infections, oxygen deprecation and numerous other deleterious effects of wearing a face covering not being taken into account?

I’m worried that more harm is being done than good. It’s almost like someone wearing a leather jacket in a combat situation when Kevlar body armor is needed. The leather jacket is not genuinely better than nothing. I’m worried that people who should stay isolated because they are at exceptional risk are instead seeing and using masks and are falsely feeling safe.

BTW, I worked at NIH for several years and have a total of 6 years in clinical environments. I’ve been through PPE training many times and I’m exceptionally familiar with air filtration, sterilization, sanitation and risk assessment. Safety is my life and I’m not seeing justified safe behavior nor finding scientific studies justifying the procedures and mandates being employed.

    1. MRoberts

You worked at the NIH and are “exceptionally family” with air filtration but don’t even understand the basic difference between bacteria and a virus?

      1. Victor Nazarian

I do understand the basic difference between bacteria and viruses. Please explain your comment.

      2. Victor Nazarian

I see now. You were not able to understand that I was explaining that masks are only really effective when used against what they were designed for which is bacteria not tiny virus carrying water particles.

I’ll clarify. Even really good masks have little or no data showing that they are significantly effective at preventing death when used for tiny water particles containing COVID virus.

    2. Chris

The answer is they won’t release the real study data because it isn’t about science, it is about control and how much we the people are willing to let the government control our lives.

      1. frostysnowman

        LOL

      2. Alice

        Absolutely!

      3. Amanda

You are absolutely right! And as much as I loved Disney it is said to say they are now a far left company. My love is fading. I will find other places to spend my money. Other places to have amgical time.

  2. People have done the math and the research. The odds of a vaccinated person getting covid is the same odds as being struck by lightning. Should I expect the government or a healthcare official to come out with mandates to protect me from being struck by lightning? Ordering vaccinated people to wear masks sends the wrong message–vaccines don’t work. We have vaccine hesitancy now. People will chose not to get vaccinated if they are supposed to continue wearing masks. No incentive. Vaccinated people wearing masks is not based on science. If a vaccinated person gets covid, the individual will not be affected like a vulnerable non-vaccinated person.

    1. Victor Nazarian

The actual numbers of breakthrough COVID infections show the chances of getting coronavirus after being inoculated against it with the current vaccines is appropriately 0.000117 (normalized CDC and Hopkins numbers). That is around 1.2 in a million.

According to the CDC, “ Lightning is one of the leading causes of weather-related fatalities. But the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are only around 1 in 500,000.”

That said propel so far this year are apparently twice as likely to be struck by lightning as they are to get a ‘breakthrough’ COVID infection after vaccination.

      1. Mel

I happen to know at least 5 people who had COVID after being fully vaccinated

        1. Victor Nazarian

That’s interesting. It means that either the CDC is under reporting the number of ‘breakthrough’ cases or you know a very select group of people. By chance, did the people too know with breakthrough infections actually require hospitalization or did they at least get tested for the repeat infection? I genuinely want to stay in touch. I’m actually compiling a report.

    2. KennyVee

“The odds of a vaccinated person getting covid is the same odds as being struck by lightning” — and you show zero “science” to back up your BS claim.

Fully vaccinated people catching the virus is up. It’s not as severe, but they are still spreading it.

People who have refused the vaccine, or who never went back for the second dose, are the SOLE reason that we are going back to mask mandates.

So anti-vaxxers, I hope you’re happy with yourselves. You are killing people, and making those of us who ARE vaccinated have to go back to being the mask police (which I HATE being). But the fines my business faces for anyone unmasked are HUGE. A guest who was wearing a mask, but pulled it down to speak and then pulled it right back up, cost us a $30,000 fine.

If you don’t want to wear a mask or get vaccinated so we can make masks go away, stay the hell out of my place of work.

My personal opinion is that this new mask mandate sucks. People have had time to make their choice about the vaccine. And if they choose to risk death, that’s on them. I may still catch the Delta variant, but it won’t be so severe. And I may still spread it to others. But screw them if they’ve chosen to remain unvaccinated.

But my job, as of when I go to work tonight, will be to enforce indoor mask mandates, and throw people out if they don’t comply. I’m going to HATE doing this, but I lose my job if I don’t do it.

So don’t give people a hard time about enforcing mask mandates again. If you don’t like it, don’t go out. Because it is NOT our decision, and we don’t like it either, but we have zero choice. If you give us a hard time about enforcing this, it is YOU who is the jerk. We are on your side, but we literally have no choice if we want to stay employed. This should have been over by now. But the idiots who refused the vaccine are screwing it up for the rest of us.

      1. Sarah

You are a bitter person, with a superiority complex. It is your choice to wear a mask. If the vaccine is protecting you, then don’t wear it. Other people’s choices are none of your concern. If you don’t like “enforcing” masks, don’t do it. Stand up and say no. For someone whom preaches so much, you bow down an awful lot. Best of luck to you in your holier than thou attitude.

  3. Kathleen Donner

Thank you Disney for being the “adult” here! Sounds like adults can have temper tantrums too! You want to be around people you get your shots and get your mask on! The life you may save may be your own! My tickets along with our whole family will be there in November!! And we do have our shots and will be wearing our cute masks!!

    1. Joseph Kastner

So you got the shot but are wearing a mask? What was the point of the shot then? You get why this hurts vaccination rates, right?

      1. Smart girl

I got the shot so, if I do catch covid I won’t DIE! I want to have a mild case and enjoy my life. Grow up and put your mask on and get the shots. You will have a different attitude when they are telling you it’s time to intabate. Oh, but you don’t care because I think it’s fake.

        1. Heather

And those of us that have had covid dont need the vaccine

          1. Victor Nazarian

You have a good point. The math is fairly simple and prior COVID infection appears to give approximately 99.4% immunity for at least 6-12 months. Vaccines average between 93% and 86% immunity for 6-12 months. Natural immunity appears to be more effective.

        2. Kitty Hawk

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news…hun..you are going to die

        3. Bob

But you will have to wear your mask for life if vaccinated people are spreading it and catching it. I am not saying don’t wear a mask, but this seems like a huge failure of the vaccine. In fact, it shouldn’t be called a vaccine anymore if vaccinated people are getting covid and getting sick from it so much that we are a threat.

  4. It’s absolutely amazing how many self-centered people there are. We are all in this together, so lets help protect each other. Please if you can get vaccinated. If not, then please wear a mask. To many little kids at risk. If you don’t want to protect yourself, then please help protect them.

    1. Victor Nazarian

Vaccines are a good idea but what data are you using that show masks are effective at preventing COVID deaths. Please share it if you have any.

Also, what makes you say too many kids are at risk? Do you realize that chikdren are 3,529.4% more likely to be accidentally killed in an auto accident than from COVID?

    2. Joseph Kastner

Won’t someone please think of the children?!!! There have only been 400 deaths in the US for children with many of those deaths having to do with previous medical conditions and not Covid.

      1. J.

Yes, Joseph, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, US states have reported between 0.00% and 0.26% of Covid deaths were children. (yes, that’s right, several states reported ZERO child deaths). Our kids are at no real risk from Covid so those who keep clutching their pearls and parroting “but children can’t be vaccinated!!” can calm down.

    3. Kitty Hawk

      Kids don’t get covid.
      Wake up

  5. Mason

Disney Parks 5-10 years from now-
Cast members and guests must be fully vaccinated
To show diversity park attendance must have even amount of white and black guests
Wearing a MAGA shirt ,hat or anything GOP related will get you kicked out of the park
Hall of Presidents will be torned down due to some Presidents owning slaves and replaced with women of America
The flags of the thirteen original colonies will be put down due to some being part of the Confederacy
At the shops in the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot they will sell the 1619 project

  6. Mason

Disney Parks 2031- Even though the COVID-19 pandemic ended two years ago we here at the Walt Disney company are still trying to remain so we will require all cast members and guests must all be fully vaccinated.

  7. Rose

I AM CANADIAN AND HAVE A TRIP BOOKED TO DISNEY THIS COMING OCTOBER
I HAVE ALREADY.PURCHASED A FRESH BAG OF MASKS! NO PROBLEM
I AM ALSO DOUBLE VAXED …I WILL ADHERE TO THESE PROTOCOLS RATHER THAN SEE ANOTHER COMPLETE SHUTDOWN. DISNEY HAS MADE THE CORRECT DECISION.
ITS FOR EVERYONES SAFETY. WE ALL WANT TO RETURN TO A SOMEWHAT NORMAL WAY OF LIFE ..AND TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN WE ALL MUST DO OUR PART. MASKS+VACINNES+
    KINDNESS +RESPECT
LIFE AND OUR FREEDOM IS A PRECIOUS GIFT …WE JUST MET A ROADBLOCK BUT LOTS OF ONGOING PATIENCE NO MATTER HOW DIFFICULT WILL GET US AROUND THIS .
    ?

  8. Godhelpus

Lmao following the science that’s cute.

  9. Mamaharley

Before you all go anti vaxx etc. remind yourself most guests that visit are young children whom cannot get vaccinated PERIOD! They are wdw target audience along with families not you complaining adults and THOSE FAMILIES will go because they have been perfectly fine with masks rules! People complaining need to find compassion! I mean unless you wish millions of kids sick or God forbid dead! Also RSV is on the rise (because last yr we were all masked this yr not) causing hospitalizations and illness in children as well its not just covid! These are reason we are in code red zone all hospitals are filled. Either enjoy your life and stay safe or move on because your not helping anyone whose sick & dying complaining all the time! Btw mark my words all those complaining will be in the parks complying so lets call a spade a spade have compassion or stay home!

    1. J.

Sigh, can’t we put this to rest once and for all…according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, US states report between 0.00% and 0.26% of Covid deaths were children. Yes, that’s right, several states reported ZERO child deaths. Children are not and have never been at any real risk from Covid. We can all stop panicking and parroting the “children can’t get vaccinated!!” line.

  10. Janie

And before anyone starts with i will just be going to universal we are getting ready to raise prices again wdw is not and we will be asking everyone to wear masks again too esp at HHN! Was just in managers meeting so before you do your thing and just blame wdw on a disney site know this!

  11. Joe S.

How can people say Disney is following science when Disney is just following the CDC who is not!

  12. AB

Boo. Was looking forward to our trip in Sept but doubt that happens now. Not going to pay a ton of money to be miserable.

  13. Amy

Had covid, have natural immunity. The people that pass away have major underlying problems. Stop with “wear the mask” mandates. Only True mask would be N95, NOT a cloth one if you are truly “following the science”.

    1. Kitty Hawk

      Yep…mask so 100% of NOTHING..
      think about it ..
‘If a fart can pass thru your jeans’
..a virus can pass through a paper mask..or cloth..
      Also can getbi your wyes..
There is a reason why kids and babies dont wear mask?
      Cuz they don’t get covid.
      Foolish people.

  14. Dhowanietz

We will be canceling our trip in Oct. Getting vaccine was a waste, if masks are required. It’s a shame we are giving away our personal choices. If you have a fear wear a mask or stay home, but don’t steal the magic for the rest of us.

    1. Heather

Those of us that have natural immunity due to having covid dont matter. We have better immunity than those vaccinated. Bunch of BS

Masks are back: Boo, and Boo again!
After reading all of the comments, here are mine:
    1. Based on what I hear, children are not at risk.
    2. The government (at all levels) have used Covid to interfere with our rights as business owners, individuals, etc. They’ve gone too far…
    3. I am 68, and NOT at risk. I have taken 1 of the 2 Pfizer shots. Didn’t take the second because my 3 nurse grandchildren either got sick from the second, or didn’t recommend it. I take vitamins and exercise regularly. If someone is at risk, let them make their own decisions on the amount of risk they are willing to take. I should have the right to do the same.
    4. With vaccines and masks available, let those that are at risk or concerned get their shots and wear their masks. Let others who feel differently alone.
    5. It is a shame that ONE person (i.e. “mayor” of Orange County) can make so many important decisions that negatively affect so many people.
    6. Health organizations stand to profit from numbers of Covid – thanks to our government (again). These past 15 or so months have proven they had no incentive in reporting accurately (question: what happened to the annual winter flu season where thousands die annually?).
I LOVE WDW, but will NOT go back until masks are optional again in ALL parts of WDW.
Basically, our society is Covid knowledgeable and Covid weary. Let us make our own decisions, it’s time…

  17. Jeremy

“Following the science” lol. The ignorance on both sides of the aisle around Covid is truly astounding. We will not return until masks are optional.

  18. M

Here we go again. This mask mandate being reinstated at WDW is ludicrous. We are set to leave in a few days for a vacation we’ve pushed back several times and finally felt like we were able to go this summer due to masks being optional indoors for the vaccinated. I had planned to ask my boys to wear their masks when indoors and around lots of people because of course they can’t be vaccinated yet. However requiring my husband and I who are double vaxxed (and he’s had covid!) to wear them in order to once again protect those who choose to remain unvaccinated infuriates me. Why am I responsible for these idiots? The vaccine has been available for months for everyone and FREE. There is no excuse for anyone to be unvaccinated unless you are a child and can’t get one yet. I refuse to continue to wear a mask to protect YOU from getting covid. Let Covid take the dumb ones. It’s their choice. Just like wearing a mask for the vaccinated should be.

  19. C. Davis

I was planning a Disney trip because they removed the masking policy for vaccinated visitors. I’m canceling our plans and going somewhere else where they don’t penalize you for getting a vaccine.

  20. Curtis Johnsen

HATE it!! Fully vaxed and done with masks as a result. Delta is not a reason to implement masks for vaccinated. Everyone knows what to do to avoid getting sick- get vaccinated. If no masks make you uncomfortable choose to wear a mask.
We just returned from 9 days of Disneyworld. We stayed at in Yacht Club, paid for 2 days of VIP tours, and every meal on property. AMAZING magical trip and spent over $15,000 of hard earned money. We would have cancelled it all with this mask policy. NOT worth it. Will return only if all protocols are gone.
No matter my thoughts or opinions on the matter, it’s not my place to dictate to someone else what’s best for their health or duty to protect them for themselves.

  21. Sam

What about our mental health in our country? First thing your probably gonna say is how does that apply to masks. Well let me tell you, I’ve suffered chronic anxiety for 20 year with medication after medication. Good thing now is I’m stable but still have tough days. Yea it’s all in my brain like most would say but I can help it. Now you probably thinking and? Well I went though hell wearing a mask over my face the first days of pandemic and yes my panic attacks sent me to the hospital 4 times trying to wear the masks. Now I’ve been discriminated against my medical condition and the federal gov could care less. Remember mental health in our county is over looked leading us to major crimes. Thanks
