Actually, the Legoland parks have been doing this kind of “soaring” attraction for a while. (Their California park has even opened such a ride this past weekend). So this is nothing new.
This genre of rides have just begun to scratch the surface. There is so much more they can do, from tying into Blockbuster IP to providing more instagramable moments. SkyFly at Pigeon Forge looks like it will be one of the best yet.
This must surely be envmbarassing for Disney. Up until now they controlled most of the tech it features. But, as Diz saves money by relying more on off-the-shelf tech, reputation for having unique and original entertainment on its parks will surely suffer.

There is also a similar attraction located on the Seattle waterfront called “Wings Over Washington” that has been operating since December 2016.
