“Black Widow treated as objectively sexualized fan-candy”?
Guess what, Scarlett?…Why do you think Paramount first TALKED about a Black Widow solo movie in the first place, when Iron Man 2 cooled with fans more quickly than expected?
Empowerment?–Uh-uh.
Wow. Scarlett, if you were 25 you’d be parading your body all over the place saying you are empowered. Now that you are in your mid 30’s and no longer young, you suddenly think everything is sexist. It’s like a script now with every attractive actress in Hollywood. Nothing new here, just walk on past.
I come from a time where people used to have the half of a brain needed to realize that BW’s initial portrait as a super sexy girl on IM2only adds up to her character. She’s a superspy, and (mis)leading people into thinking that she might be just a piece of a** only shows how clever and resourceful she actually is.
Her character, a trained spy was doing her best to infiltrate Stark’s inner circle. OF COURSE she would act that way (knowing Tony’s penchant for hotties). It’s Espionage 101! Things changed later.

Yet she doesn’t comment on the sexualizarion of the male characters.
Captain bare chested after his transformation with the female lead touching his chest
Thor constantly shirtless for no reason.
Star Lord being shirtless for no reason.
Loki in the new series being stripped shirtless without his permission.
Outside of Iron Man, every male lead has been sexualized with pointless shirtless scenes.
But that’s OK? Double standard much.
