I understand why there was a move to streaming over the past 18 months, even if I’ve argued against it, but there isn’t a better experience than immersing yourself in a cinema without the distractions of the outside world for a couple of hours – and they are – at least my local cinema – is one of the most Covid safe places in my town. These film makers spend years creating the perfect movie and should be given the chance to be treated as such. My local cinema is £5 and currently showing ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’, if I’d paid for the Premier Fee it’d have cost me £20 (I’m in the UK), so a saving of £15 is a no brainer. Disney+, Netflix etc will be there, but there won’t be buffering issues at a cinema either.
Yes, I’m ready for Pixar films to return to theaters. In fact, I’m ready to go back into time and stop all this skipping theater lameness with Soul and Luca before it even happened in the first place.
Yes please! Bring Pixar back to theaters. I understand needing flexibility right now. However, why did Raya and Last Dragon play in the theater and Disney+ same time but not a single Pixar movie since Onward? I really liked Raya (nice to get away from anything Frozen related)…saw it in the theater which was great. But Soul..that one was excellent! Deserved a theater experience just as much as Raya. I just feel if this is a money strategy, well…you saw how Soul did overseas in theaters. Don’t short change your strongest story tellers Disney. There’s a reason you “own” them…give them more thought and consideration with their unique stuff. Don’t be afraid to let them out shine the Disney only named stuff. The public has room for both (and it’s probably equal as far as those who are more team Pixar and those more team Disney). Disney+ will grow just fine without the need for everything to skip theaters.
