Universal Orlando Resort has officially moved from 6 feet of social distancing to 3 feet of social distancing, so will they also increase capacity?

Let’s discuss what this could mean for the resort as a whole.

Universal Orlando Resort has had to make major operational adjustments in order to operate safely with Guests and Team Members enjoying Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay.

Some of these changes include wearing a proper face covering, implementing social distancing, and keeping the theme parks at a reduced capacity. At the moment, Universal’s capacity is at 35%, which needed to be set in order to properly maintain social distancing at 6 feet and to keep everyone safe.

Now that the CDC is allowing for 3 feet of social distancing instead of 6 feet, and Universal has adhered to the change, could that 35% capacity increase?

If social distancing is now half of what it once was, that means that capacity could technically double, and social distancing protocols can still be met. So, if Universal wanted to raise their capacity to 70% at this point, it seems that they would be able to do so while still following all of their health and safety protocols and guidelines.

It should also be noted that Governor DeSantis will allow the theme park to open to full capacity if they want to, so the decision at this point is really up to Universal.

That being said, Universal has not made that change nor have they announced an increase in capacity. All of this is pure speculation at this point. Universal does continuously hit capacity at all of their theme parks, however, so it seems that it is clear that the demand from Guests is there.

As the summer months approach and the COVID-19 vaccine distribution continues to roll out across the country, more and more travelers will want to visit Universal on their vacation. As we know, Universal was able to break even during the pandemic financially, but if they want to profit, raising their capacity limit may be what is needed.

For now, capacity remains at 35%, masks are still mandatory unless stationary while eating or drinking, and social distancing is held at 3 feet. Temperature checks have officially been removed from the park, and Inside the Magic will continue to update you with any changes that Universal Orlando Resort undergoes with their health and safety protocols.

Do you think Universal Orlando Resort will increase capacity? Would it be ok if they did?
