When I was a little girl it was tradition to go to The Rose & Crown pub in EPCOT Center and sit on the balcony to watch the World Showcase the first night we arrived on property. As we were sitting waiting on our food and the show a waiter came up to me. He asked if I liked The Little Mermaid? I, being an 8 year old girl, said of course I did! The waiter said to come with him, so I went. He took me to a near-by table and introduced me to a man, his name was Sam. The waiter leaned down and whispered in my ear and said, this is the man who plays Sebastian! He talked just liked him!! I ran and grabbed my autograph book, my parents came over, and I was in awe!! To me this was the biggest super-star in the world!! He talked to my parents for a bit, we thanked him for the autograph, and returned to our seats to see the show. I must have grinned ear to ear till I fell asleep that night! Every time I watch The Little Mermaid, I think of Sam and how kind he was to this little 8 year old girl! I was so saddened to hear of his passing today. I called my mom and dad right away when I heard! We reminisced of the night we met him. He will be in our hearts and our prayers! We will miss you Sam!
I’m not too sad about Samuel E. Wright biting the dust, since Daveed Digs is playing Sebastian the crab in the live-action/CGI remake of “The Little Mermaid” (without Francesca Angelucci Capaldi as Ariel, Noah Schnapp as Prince Eric, Phyllis Smith as Ursula and Jamie Foxx as Sebastian the crab) and Jodi Benson, who played Ariel in the original 1989 Disney animated classic as well as it’s series, it’s direct-to-DVD sequel and prequel and “Ralph Breaks the Internet”, is still around, but I sure hope she stays alive for 10 more years.
Absolutely devistated to hear the loss of such an amazing man and actor. I remember as a little girl being fascinated with the little mermaid and needless to say sebastian certainly was a character and a half. I still love the little mermaid and the way Samuel brought Sebastian to life. Under the sea was definitely a bit hit with me but kiss the girl holds a dear place in my heartay you rest in peace and you will forever be remembered x
