“And maybe Wolverine.”
Oh, right: I was going to say, the only “iconic” Hulk story we know is Planet Hulk, and that’s how we got Thor: Ragnarok instead, so, why bother at this point?
I will soooooooooooo like a Hulk solo movie, because Hulk is one of my favorite Marvel heroes & also my favorite member of the Avengers. Plus, Hulk deserves more movies, maybe a live action movie of Planet Hulk someday, including more new seasons & more new episodes of Hulk & the Agents of S.m.a.s.h series as well, so we could see more adventures of the Hulk & his teammates, maybe Betty Ross could make appearances as well, so she & the Hulk/Bruce Banner could be together again.
Universal still holds distribution rights to the Hulk. If Marvel makes a Hulk solo film, they have to let Universal release it. That means Universal gets to decide on the release date, number of theaters, marketing, etc., and they also get to handle DVD/Blu-Ray, streaming, cable, etc, and they get to keep a pretty big share of the money from all of that. Disney/Marvel does not want to give up either the revenue or the control over their product, so they stick to the boundaries of that contract and only use Hulk as a supporting player. Until that contract ends, is bought out, or is terminated in some other way, we’re not getting a Hulk movies.
So far there have only been unconfirmed rumors from less-than-reliable fan-sites indicating that the Hulk’s distribution rights have reverted; no word from Disney or Marvel, no mention in annual reports or SEC filings, nothing concrete to show any change in the status.
I would love to see a solo Hulk movie, but not Smart Hulk. I have no interest in seeing that goofy version ever again. I want to see the Hulk in all his glory, Smart Hulk was too underwhelming.
