Though I will agree they take up a lot of area, I have to disagree with you.
These are classic attractions that greatly add to the look and feel of Disneyland as a whole. The sub lagoon provides not only a ride, but sort of a tranquil beauty to Tomorrowland, with he Matterhorn rising above it (giving perspective) and the monorail gliding over it. All of which was designed together with Walt’s keen eye for story.
The Autopia…… Do you have kids? And were you a kid that had one of your first drives behind the wheel of one of those cars? I dare say millions of kids a year get that thrill to this day – millions. I have a 14-year old girl, with all the moodiness that comes with it. Yet when we back to Disneyland a couple of weeks ago she still wanted to drive an Autopia car with me next to her. It brought back years of memories and countless times we went on that ride together, from the time she was probably 2 years all.
Yes the subs and Autopia could be re-themed, and certainly bring in electric cars. But I think your statement was a bit callous and with out regard to literally tens-of-millions of memories folks have of that ride, and want to have the opportunity to take their kids or grandkids on it as well.
You are awesome. I agree. Driving around the little road trip is calming and my son couldn’t wait to take the wheel. Finding Nemo, we were there for opening day and will never stop lining up for a chance to look at Nemo’s adventure. ?
Ohhhhhh I have got so many ideas for this particular ride. I think t history should b preserved. T submarines, t old school underwater stuff, t Finding Nemo underwater n above water parts n also creating new experiences under n above water n incorporating t Little Mermaid n other inspirations. Ultimately possibly culminating in2 sum sort of live action scenes/daily shows n interactions.
I went on t actual submarine before n after Finding Nemo. Loved both times regardless of claustrophobia n a bit of boredom. It is worth preserving sum of t particular magic t submarines have. It just needs a bit of t correct type of updating. I would love2share more thoughts if there is any interest. ???
Keep it keep it keep it. Love this type of ride it is such a unique experience, I was so sad when the sub ride in Disney world closed. Retheming would be OK but keep the ride system.
The submarines and Autopia are ancient rides, they definitely need to repurpose the valuable space they consume. I say bring the Tron ride to Tomorrow Land, that would be awesome!
I remember waiting to take the ride when I first went to Disneyland with my family in 1969. Then again at Grad Nite, and watching the “ruins of Atlantis” collapse under water.
A few years ago went back to Disneyland and the ride became looking out a window and watching flat screen TVs play digital animation underwater. There was no magic, just television presented as if at a bad art exhibit.
Keep the Subs, but lose the current ride.
Keep the subs. Lose the Nemo theme. Lose the projections and stick with 3d props. Go with a more futuristic theme – exploring this unexplored frontier – much like the original ride did. This is such a unique ride and should be preserved.
The thing to work on next in Tomorrowland is Innoventions. Let’s put a show back in it – Like “America Sings.” A good place to sit, relax, and be entertained.
❤️’d original Submarines at Tomorrowland, but Nemo (and Buzz Lightyear) belong in DCA with all the other Pixar i.p. (might as well rename that theme park Pixar Land!) drain the lagoon and bring on Tron Legacy (Lightcycles and Disc Battles!)
Keep it! The ride is just too classic. Never sink this ride!
But then again the new Rivers of America, instead of feeling like your floating down the Mississippi River, now just feels like a boat ride.

Kill the subs and Autopia. They take up way to much room for so little in return. Wasted space in a land locked park

That was the most annoying comment to have the displeasure of trying to read… good god, do you speak in that manner too? Stay in school kids…

I agree. The ride has potential but the projections suck. Walt loved nature and this should be inspired by a true underwater experience.

They won’t let you say anything negative about the characters
