There’s no reason Disney and others can’t run their buffets just like they did 2 years ago. Our local buffets have been open since May 2020. Buffets are starting to reopen in Vegas. Disney should follow suit.
Actual doctor here who takes care of covid patients. Buffets are not a high-risk endeavor, especially not vaccinated. This new Bento method is NOT amazing!
I’m not impressed. Looks like my husband would need about five of those “bento boxes.” The point of a buffet is to take as much of what you want as you like, and none of what you don’t want. High price for a toddler portion of random food items? No thanks.
I prefer to choose what goes on my plate. Ate at the Biergarten a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing how much food was being thrown out at so many tables, some items pre-plated we didn’t even touch (Swedish meatballs?), such a shame.

Info avl right here on this site. They are obviously fans.
Nothing about this sounds good to me. I’d much prefer a buffet. Our local ones have reopened and some in Vegas are even starting to reopen. If they can do it safely I’m sure Disney can figure it out.
Yes Disney is being STUPID buffets are open as usual all over
Just another reason NOT to go to Disney or on DCL
This is all a government ploy that’s been in the making since 1987
Gates Clinton’s Fauci Soros a d the rest of the idiot clans plan to reduce the population
Don’t believe me? It’s available if you look and YES in so many words
I hope Disney and any other corp or company that follows this stupid policy goes out of business
Yes even Amazon ( who doesn’t care about their employees only themselves)
Fact I used to work for them and yes they are that bad
Why not just go back to regular buffets like we had before the pandemic? Has the CDC called out buffets (i.e., food) as a likely source of COVID infection? I think not. Vaccinated persons have little/nothing to worry about when using a buffet table, even if they’re standing right next to a person who has COVID. The only persons who need to act with care are those who never had COVID ***AND*** have not been vaccinated. Let those persons continue to wear a mask, to protect themselves, and proceed with caution and at their own risk. If these persons are afraid of contracting COVID, they should stay home and get the vaccine as quickly as they can, so they too can resume a normal existence. But these persons SHOULD NOT impact the lives of most others who are immune. Unless I’m missing something (science and public health wise, not how people feel, i.e., more safe when they wear a mask and see others do so, even when those others are no threat).
Actually, there was an buffet experience that was open maybe a month after the re-open in Florida, Biergarten Restaurant in Epcot. In my trip in August 2020, the restaurant was open with limited seating for social distancing, no community tables, only on group per table, if it more than ten, it must be separate tables. And the food was brought to the table in long plates that will serve at least 4, we were 3 in the table, of all the appetizers in one plate, then another with the main dishes and the last one with all the desserts. It was great and super filling. All this process that this articles shows, is all old stuff and not innovative.
The obvious solution would be keep the buffet, implement social distanced queuing, have aulani buffet attendants serve food based on guests food preferences. The reason why they aren’t is because it’s more expensive both in food and wage expenses.
How could you be excited about limited options Inside the Magic?
Scott I’m in total agreement. Buffets can be safely implemented again with your above mentioned interventions. Have cast members to serve the food on customers plates (instead of patrons serving and touching the serving utensils themselves), socially distance the way you approach the buffet and voila -done. Buffets are back. This unfortunately is just another way to cut costs for Disney because yes it costs money to hire people to implement these buffet changes. I’m so tired of the unvaccinated being catered to – you have the opportunity to get the vaccine and live you life so if you don’t want it, a place like WDW is not for you. The rest of us who are vaccinated should not be expected to wear masks indefinitely the rest of our lives in order to protect you who refuse to vaccinate (and it IS your choice (albeit an ignorant, not based on science decision) but I refuse to continue this mask
mockery because of this segment of people. Masks outside everywhere at WDW? Ludicrous. Let’s get on with it. And Disney needs to move on too!
I stopped eating at WDW buffets years ago. We did character breakfasts where there was table service only. Planning for cruise next year but I’ll wait to see how they handle food service.
This is NOTHING LIKE a buffet. Unless you are a person who likes everything on a buffet equally and samples everything, this is horrible. For example of those 3 desserts I would probably waste 2 of them. I may want 2 different kinds of chicken but no roast beef, etc.
Other people’s comments about closing off the food to patrons via sealed glass on the customer side and having Disney members serve them (like they do at Piccadilly) is a much better option. Patrons could tell a Disney member to skip that item, add two servings of this item, and one serving of the next… on down the line. If cast members were tested and wore masks and customers wore mask in line, it would be safer and a true buffet experience… just not self-serve.
no way you replace a buffet. how do you offer the variety? prices will need to come down to make it “worth it”. I am unwilling to spend 50 bucks plus for a non buffet.
They should have servers instead of self serve. simple solution but they wont want to pay the servers!
Comments for Disney Has Reinvented Buffets (and It’s Amazing!)

Yeah, public health is SOOO overrated.

We went to the wailele luau at Westin Maui before aulani reopened their luau and this is how the food was served. Might not have been Disney’s idea……

That pic was just a dessert option. Maybe people don’t need to eat their body weight in food?
ML
The plate with rice and meat that looked like it was for a child’s dinner was a dessert option?
Kat2
How do you feel about wasted food Kat?
KAT3
I’m sorry but this doesn’t sound good on any level. In fact it sounds systemically racist. Disney’s top brass should check thier white privilege.
Pyramid Head
Are the authors on this site paid by Disney?
I’m asking because it seems like they’re never critical of the company. All of their policies are “awesome” and “wonderful.”
This site doesn’t seem like a good place for unbiased information about Disney and their policies.
MF
Agree. Disney’s primary concern is not safety it is profit. One way they achieve profit is by making sure everyone feels safe.

I’m afraid this doesn’t sound “amazing” to me. I’d prefer to pick my own food and not waste something that I didn’t want. Back to normal please.
Craig
Totally agree with PyramidHead.
Sounds like Disney propaganda
Ligma
Right there with there both of you. Complete propaganda.
