It’s appalling that Bob Chapek bought a new mansion while his employees are suffering and barely able to make ends meet. What an evil, out-of-touch thing to do.
Last June Disney made a video showing support for BLM. This article mentions the website Dirt.com which discusses real estate transactions of the wealthy. That website also just had an article about the co-founder of BLM, Patrisse Khan-Cullors. She has described herself as a trained Marxist. She has 4 high end homes worth about $3 million. Her latest purchase was a 1.4 million dollar home in Topanga Canyon. She says she did not use donations to pay for the homes. One has to wonder where the money came from. Chapek’s Westlake Village home is about a half hour from Topanga Canyon. He could hang out with a trained Marxist! Wouldn’t that be fun?
It is sickening the amount of money he has spent, but we are the ones to blame as we keep going to Disney world even when the price goes up and perks go down
Shameful! He lays off the cast members who can barely make ends meet on their salary but he keeps his multi million dollar salary and buys a new mansion? Talk about showing the disparity in wealth at Disney. How about lowering these CEO salaries and not giving them bonuses so the actual daily workers can be given a working decent salary to live on? Orlando has food bank lines around the blocks and the majority since the layoff have been former Disney World workers! How does he sleep at night ???
If you achieve, strive for more in life and are successful you’re rewarded. No one is upset at the wealth of the Lebanese immigrant and local produce market owner Ephram Nehme who built the house Chapek purchased? Nehme grew up in a two-bedroom house with seven sisters, two brothers, a grandmother and his parents in Lebanon. He emigrated to New York City at age 18 and after working for others for 20 years he took a risk and opened Valley Produce Market. He opened a second market four years ago in Simi Valley. He now employs more than 170 people. Bob Chapek has presided over some of Disney’s most profitable divisions in his 28 years with the company. I’m no Chapek apologist but delivering excellent results for a publicly traded company is what he has done and is rewarded accordingly. It’s a personal decision with what you want to do with your life. I respect the choices of those people that choose to help others get in and out of a teacup ride, but find it difficult to condemn others who have taken a different route and are successful.
Let’s see how long it takes to bring back all the employees, entertainment, and transportation now that life is slowly going back to normal. I am guessing they are not going to bring back magical express or stop charging for things that used to be free and that are free pretty much everywhere like over night resort parking.
Hi Dave, the Magical Express was never “free”, the cost was built into the price you paid for your resort package. In 2022 you’ll have the opportunity to ride to WDW from the airport with Mears Express busses, and pay for the service. Should WDW reduce resort pricing by $20 a person since they aren’t operating/paying for the ME anymore? Maybe, but it won’t happen. Most every hotel within 10 miles of WDW charge for overnight parking, and many charge a resort fee as well, so Disney is not unique in charging for parking. Folks will continue to pay the premium to stay in the Disney “bubble” and feel the “magic”. And Disney will welcome them with open arms and a hand in their wallets. Don’t want to pay the freight, don’t get on the train. Plenty of others will and Disney knows that.
While I understand being rewarded for hard work, I find it appalling for the CEO to make a purchase of this magnitude while the country and the employees of Disney (in which I have family and friends employed or formerly employed by Disney) have struggled to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. It is shameful to disregard the “peons” that have helped make his financial status happen all-the-while raising prices to consumers and decreasing activities such as transportation cuts, rides closed/ceased or parts of the entertainment eliminated. Decreased positions for employees at low pay rates while charging you $15 for a cheeseburger for lunch. I am a stockholder for Disney and a small business owner and am appalled at the disregard displayed by the elitist in this country! What a jerk!!!
“decreasing activities such as transportation cuts, rides closed/ceased or parts of the entertainment eliminated.” = Covid 19. “Decreased positions for employees” = Covid 19. (unless you’re referring to Disneyland = Gov. Newsome) $15 cheeseburger & fries = almost anywhere other than fast food restaurants. So now you’re considered an elitist if you taken a career path that comes with compensation that is commensurate with the position? And your an elitist if you lead a company that has evolved into a global entertainment giant and will for years to come? No, an elitist is someone who refer to the working men and women of this country as “peons”. The virus was a wake up call for many and the safety net cast by the current administration is looking to give a hand up (or hand out) to those who need it. Think about that when you take your two stimulus checks and the Paycheck Protection Program monies you received as a small business to the bank. Hypocrisy can be a tough pill to swallow. Hope you didn’t sell your Disney stock, it’s going to make you a bunch of money in the future. Oops, is that elitist?
And 565,000 deaths in the US, 3 million deaths worldwide. Just a flu bug, nothing to worry about. It’s all a hoax … just ask the people who lost loved ones. I guess you’d call those the folks the “3 percenter’s”.
If it wasn’t Bob, it would have been someone else.
Anyway, why doesn’t he live inside Disneyland? He could wake up and go straight to work! Gives a new meaning to work from home. ?
Well maybe that’s not the best idea

Fan of Walt, but not that guy

Why are people upset. He’s a CEO and saved his money to buy a new home. How would you all like every purchase you make to be scrutinised.
Melanie Durham
Thank you! My thoughts exactly! He went to school, worked hard, saved his money! He earned that spot! You all are jealous! Shame on you all!

Covid19 is no excuse to cut anything!. Covid19 has a 97% recovery rate.

He surely wouldn’t have had the means to buy this house if he paid his employees a fair wage.
