LOL at the idea that Chapek doesn’t see Disney as leaning in a specific direction when most can clearly see it leans left and is quickly becoming a major player in cancel culture.
Carano didn’t deserve her treatment by the Mouse and hopefully whatever she does in the future will make her time on their projects pointless.
How is that change? She makes a comparison between political beliefs and Jewish suffering, off with her head. The article failed to report that chapek was asked point blank, why is that wrong and deserves firing but a comparison of illegal aliens put in holding facilities to the same atrocities wasn’t?
Why is the right wing view/tweet completely derogatory and cutoff, but the left wing one isn’t? They both down play the real horror the Jewish families went through, so why the different response?
That’s not change my friend….that’s biased review and reactionary hypocritical opinion that the “cancel culture” is all about. Without big companies like Disney, cancel culture would’ve died out by now, because most people see the outright hypocrisy and are tired of it. Cancel both of them, and I’d support the decision as a “morally guided” one. It’s pretty simple actually.
A small, vocal minority of fans loved her character. I thought her acting was stiff and she added nothing to the role.
Disney made a business decision that the money they wouldn’t make if they kept her was less than the money they would lose if they showed her the door.
The tides of have just turned in our society and a bunch of butt-hurt people are mad they no longer wield the numbers to be able to cancel anymore.
so why are the other left leaning actors who made the same but worse conparisons not also fired? Please put away your liberal bias for just one moment and try to see things in reality .
The only reason it seems like Disney is left-leaning is because one political party’s former president decided they were against “respect, decency, integrity and inclusion” and the rest of the herd followed him over the cliff.
Not Star Wars… the Twitter mob. A big difference. Social media spineless jellys that can’t take others having a contary opinion that clashed with the fragile little world they have created in there minds… pathetic Disney, truly pathetic.
She simply isn’t a decent or even average actress. Glad she’s gone because she was more trouble then she was worth. Her contraversy was more than just a little annoyingly distracting. My love for Star Wars is rekindled.
Neither was Carrie Fisher a decent or even average actress, particularly in the original role. Sure, she got better but she really didn’t have any other way to go.
Gina Carano blocks people for their opposing views on Twitter. It’s happened multiple times to others and to me when I said a company has a right to control what goes on in their products (aka Twitter and Trump). She blocked me in January for that comment. Then the following month, she gets fired because of her erroneous comparisons that are hurting the Disney brand. Hello people! She signed a contract that bans these kinds of things. A company is a free market and is going to watch out for themselves no matter what YOU think because you’re inconsequential. She did it to herself. The pot calling the kettle black. Karma is a beach.
I have to say. I have become quite disenchanted with Disney over the last couple years. So done with their “not left-leaning, not right-leaning” (THAT IS HILARIOUS) social cues and canceled culture. Even the Parks are canceling this and that now. I was going to bring my family back once the masks came off but I am thinking the magic is gone. Other parks are less expensive, as fun, and no political BS.
Y’all realize that most “grown up” jobs come with a social media clause in the employment contract, right? Every company I’ve worked for in the last decade has placed some limit on how its employees behave on public-facing social media.
See also Josh Gad, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans. If Disney employees were let go for politically motivated posts for the other side of the aisle, those three would have been gone a long time ago.
I think you “cancel culture” whiners are missing Chapek’s point. Since when would, “respect, decency, integrity and inclusion,” be something ANYONE should be against? If that’s your position, believe me, the problem ain’t with Chapek.
And, here you are whining about others who you consider to be whiners. That’s pretty funny!
But don’t look too hard or think about it too much because you’ll realize you’re an equal part of the problem. Hey, at least you got that “inclusion” thing going for you.
Cheers.
Isn’t it even more funny when the whiners who wail about “cancel culture” can’t handle it when a company or private organization does exactly what free market should do, but they don’t like it because their white privilege is being impeded, so whine! whine! whine!
You want some cheese with that whine?
(And no, I wasn’t then nor am I not now whining. You can’t tell the difference between irony, sarcasm, and satire?)
I’m pretty right-wing, both socially and politically, but even I found Gina’s tweets to be offensive. Sometimes it’s not so much what you say (i.e. your political position) as how you say it. I think Bob has a good point about “respect, (and) decency”. Now I don’t think I would have made the decision to fire Gina, but I can understand why Bob may have felt that to be necessary. There comes a point where someone’s contributions to a company may be outweighed by the controversy they bring. Disney can have both liberals and conservatives working for the company, so long as they express their opinions in ways that are respectful and decent. If they make themselves the center of a controversy, then they become much less valuable to the company, and that has a big impact on the equation of whether to hire them for a future project or continue their existing employment.
I would suggest that Disney’s decisions on storylines tend to lean significantly to the left on social issues in recent years but that tends to be a reflection of the way the movie industry as a whole has leaned for a long time now. If the central theme of a movie is something I find offensive, then I simply won’t watch it simply on the basis that I don’t find it entertaining.
This is the smarted thing I have read in the comments here.”There comes a point where someone’s contributions to a company may be outweighed by the controversy they bring.” A good example is Depp. He is massive for the company, which makes letting him go a very hard decision.
I think each person should be able to express their own opinions on their social media as long as they are not representing their employer. When we can value each other’s opinions instead of attacking each other and worrying about getting fired over opinions then we can truly have discussions on how to improve.

We need strong independent female characters!
Okay here is Gina Corono both physically capable and has strong opinions.
Cancel her! She has opinions that are not exactly what I have!
Disney should stop cutting off their nose in spite of their face. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion without the fear of whiney cry babies calling for them to be fired.

And once again, here is the Anti-Cancel Culture crowd whining about change as usual when a business like Disney makes a free market decision.

Have you seen the stock ticker over the last week? Ticket prices aren’t the only thing he can make go up.
