“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day, minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
A bit dramatic of a quote for a theme park which is a privately owned company. Therefore, the owners can do what they want within there business plans. You should relax, take a spa day or something.
Imagine being so out of touch that a (privately owned) theme park changing its animatronics feels like political oppression on par with 1984. Personally I’d be grateful to live such a comfortable life and not mad at a theme park but I guess we all need something to do
Watched the ride via YouTube and who cares what’s changed? You paid $100+ for a ticket to go on what looks like the most boring attraction I’ve seen at any amusement park.
Forget updating it. Remove it, and put in literally anything else.
There are only 16 signatures as of this writing (something this article doesn’t mention). Is this petition really worth a whole article at this point? It seems to be making a bigger deal of the petition than is really warranted and makes it seem like there are more people protesting these sensible changes than there actually appear to be.
Do you think there were not natives and head hunters? Are you bright enough to know the difference between different natives and able to read history? I, then assume you can handle trader sam. He does no harm to you or your children, because you have a voice and influence. Fear of history, instead if learning from it. Sad, and I really think it’s sad that people who claim to be intellegent fall for it. Enjoy your white washed history. I hope you don’t see anything that hurts your feelings today.
I hardly think that Disney Parks updating their rides would have popped into George Orwell’s mind when he was writing about political fascism. All Disney rides should be safe and unoffensive to all park guests. I think that Song of the South was offensive to blacks. I think it should be left on the market as a movie but creating a less offensive ride is just fine.
I think that Disney should leave attractions like splash mountain and jungle cruise alone. The attractions depict the history of our country. We cannot change history, but our country can do better going forward. If someone is offended by a particular attraction. Then they should skip that attraction. Making splash mountain, a frog and the peach attraction does not change history. Also the attraction itself is not offensive, just the movie it is derived from. I for one will miss splash mountain. I wish disney could find another place in their parks to give princess Tiana a ride or restaurant. Going forward our country as a whole needs to do better so all lives matter. Please leave tom Sawyer Island, the way it is. Please don’t try to rewrite history. I don’t feel Walt disney would be proud of that.
How is Jungle Cruise history of our country? Imagineers had plan well over a year ago, actually going on 2, to change Splash Mountain due to the fact most people have never seen the movie and do not make the connection.
Not surprised someone like you thinks it’s perfectly acceptable for black people to be portrayed as flesh eating savages. This is not 1955 anymore. Welcome to 2021.
Tell me something, man. Do you speak for all black people? Because I’M black and I will say now that you don’t speak for me or any other black person. While I think your intentions are good, they’re also a little disingenuous. I personally think they should’ve left Splash Mountain alone. I knew what it was based on but I wasn’t offended one bit. Completely refurbishing the rides and taking certain elements out like that ones that show racial caricatures would be the exact same as saying those things never existed in the first place. That’s not learning from history. That’s erasing it. People need to realize that sanitizing the ugly history of this country will do nothing to move us forward. Disney seems to have acknowledged the wrongdoing but they’re going about it all wrong.
Don’t like it, don’t go. Sign all the petitions, voice all your opinions scream from the rooftop, but in a free enterprise system nothing speaks louder than the bottom line $$$ for a business. If you don’t go, there is no $$$ coming in. And if you don’t go there’ll be more room for the rest of us 🙂
Why bother saying anything, it will do no good. Certain groups have gotten their way up to this point, waste of breath. Disney Execs. look at money not history or whats popular. Never have since Walt and Roy died.
I think a little change won’t hurt.
I would like to comet on Johnny depth in pirates of the Caribbean. I would not like to see him there since he is a pedo,
I love the Jungle Cruise for it’s very punny humor. However, there are some scenes that I have always thought were inappropriate since I first went on the ride in 1987. A little change to make get rid of some things that are offensive is a good idea and I’m glad Disney is doing it. It’ll still be the same kind of ride, just better for all of us.
As for Splash Mountain – it is one of my favorite rides and I love the song. I’m old enough to have actually seen Song of the South, on which the ride was based. I didn’t always think of the movie when I rode on Splash; to me it was cheerful and fun and I found myself humming the song the rest of the day. But I totally get why Disney feels they need to change the ride to something that is more inclusive. And I loved the movie The Princess and the Frog. It’s charming and also has some great songs and characters that are more positive. All I ask is that they don’t take away the big drop and the photo op. LOL
Disneyland has been changing things in the parks since they first opened. I doubt that most of us would want to still see people fishing and catching live fish and then disposing of them in the trash cans all over the park. It’s easy to forget that we aren’t seeing the same rides and attractions that people saw when Disneyland first opened. And that’s a good thing.
I can’t wait till I get to go back to Disneyland, this time with my two daughters and my two grandsons, who will visit for the first time. I’m looking forward to seeing all the changes when we go, whenever that is.
Disney is having a hard time right now, first of all they have to try to deal with this nitwit Governor in Calif, they are getting rid of some of the best attractions and shows and entertainment, laying off employees but do the executives get a pay cut or lose any bonus incentives?
Then there is the question how “politically correct” we can get so we cannot offend the least number of groups possible? Oh, let’s not forget, do away with the Magical Express service. Wonder how Mr. Disney would feel about all this?
The Disney Company is allowing cancel culture to rewrite history. Acting like cultures and events didn’t exist. If you don’t learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it. Are they going to redo the American Adventure presentation and propitiate the false narrative of the 1619 project? If you believe the 1619 project, you probably believe you evolved from a mud puddle. Get some backbone, Disney!
Yeowch! The amount of direct, unshielded racism from folks on Disney pages is shocking for me! The attempts to make the parks more inclusive seems like such a good step. I never thought “The Happiest” and “Most Magical” places on earth just meant “for white people in flyover states” to so much of the public ?
I find the new Jungle Cruise re-theming completely racist and offensive. If you look at the characters on the pole under the rhino, on the bottom is the helpless white guy while everyone above him are people of color, women or both. I am sick of Disney always bowing to the minorities while the white men get fired.
I am assuming this is satire. If so, that is the most perfect entitled white man comment I have seen in a long time. Well done!

So much better than the Splash Mountain re theme.

What’s wrong with the Splash Mountain re-theme. It seems like a great idea!!! I’m looking forward to it.
