  1. I’ve been to the parks during the pandemic. Loaded rides do have some advantages and disadvantages. A loaded ride can speed up the line. Disadvantage example: rides with Plexiglas. Frozen Ever After with Plexiglas is not good. It’s hard to see because water spray gets on it, and the memory maker picture stinks. Slinky dog dash is fully loaded and is without Plexiglas. If they want to have rides half-loaded, they need to have fast pass. You spend most of the day in line and rushing from one attraction to another because of the park hours. Hope this helps. When I return, I will take the crowds if fast pass is available.

The original CDC guidelines recommended 6 foot separation from people NOT wearing a mask, but it soon morphed into a national rule for both. So long as everyone wears a mask relaxing the social distancing aspect shouldn’t cause problems. At least it won’t be a problem for my family and I when we visit this year. Being trapped in a slow moving line may be more risky than having riders sit 4-5 feet in front of you on the roller-coaster.

    1. I absolutely WANT the social distancing on the rides as well. Was a bit unnerving in January 2021 when we visited. The 6’ distancing lines for the rides were great & very pleasant. RIDES NEED TO HAVE SOCIAL DISTANCING. A Comfortable safe vacation is BEST.

Then you don’t need to go anywhere Ellen if your really that terrified 🙂 of catching a virus with a 99% survival rate

        1. Paul

Half a million people dead in the US, Uncommon Sense. 500,000. Your “99%” number is meaningless to all those people, their families, and their friends.

        2. Zoe

How unbelievably stupid are you? If the virus had a 99% survival rate, then thousands of people wouldn’t be dying daily. Maybe you personally have a 99% change survival rate, but it’s not just about you. If you get it and spread it to someone who is old or is already sick, you could kill them. Honestly I can’t believe that Disneyland is even open right now. It’s unbelievable.

          1. Robin

Wow. “How unbelievably stupid are you?”. I hope that one day soon people can express their opinions without naming calling. I hope one day you can be open and realize that the world doesn’t think like you – isn’t that a good thing? It’s fine that you don’t agree with the statement made; that doesn’t make you right. I don’t want to guess if you’ve known several who’ve died from COVID-19. I have so that probably influences my opinion NOT to care about a 99% survival rate but care that over 500K have died in the U.S. I hope you always do what makes you happy but never do what hurts others.

        3. RobinD

She doesn’t sound terrified. She has a right to her opinion just like you have a right to yours. She prefers physical distancing to feel safe. Follow guidelines and do what makes you feel safe and she’ll do what makes her feel safe. Maybe you don’t know several of the 500K who’ve died in the US from COVID-19. Percentages don’t make a difference when it directly affects your family and friends. Best wishes to you. I hope in the future you want feel the need to label someone (e.g., terrified).

          1. Robin

I hope in the future you WON’T feel the need to label someone (e.g., terrified).

        4. Ann Fortney

Agreed. If you are that scared of the virus; then You wear a mask and social distance stop forcing everyone else who are healthy, washes hands and practices good hygiene since birth, to wear maskand social distance. We are not in fear of a virus that has a 99% survival rate.

          1. Robin

I wonder what has come of our society that so many are so happy (and quick) to label someone (e.g., scared). Their views are different. Doesn’t make someone superior or great just because they do something and someone else doesn’t. I know several medical professionals and teachers who have admitted to being scared to face the virus but they still go to their jobs everyday. Maybe you don’t know several of the 500K who’ve died in the U.S. from COVID-19. Percentages don’t make a difference when it directly affects your family and friends. Best wishes to you. I hope in the future you want feel the need to label someone.

It is ironic they enforce the rule for people outside wandering around and not on the rides. That is pretty much BACKWARD from what it should be. People wandering around OUTSIDE with MASKS have about a 0% chance of spreading. INSIDE and on rides though is where the larger danger is!

    1. Adam

Social Distancing doesn’t work when the lines are 6′ apart but everyone not in line is walking right next to you.
Having 4 people on a 5 row boat is just stupid.
I was there last week & felt completely comfortable while just using some common sense like Hand sanitizer getting on & off of the rides.
I even flew across the country to go.

    2. Vlad

Unless someone caughs their lungs out next to you while walking.

  4. Scott

We just spent the entire day at magic kingdom. It’s February 21st today. I don’t know what these people saw but the rides were not being fully loaded at all. Not even close.

    1. OSUZorba

@Scott, I agree, only a few rides are being fully loaded, at least as of last week. The ones that are being fully loaded either have plexiglass, already have high backs, or already have a lot of room between rows (slinky dog and Toy Story Mania). Lots of rides are still skipping rows.

      1. Jordan Robertson

Here’s a thought, and I know it’s difficult to process for the spacial needs crowd: Don’t visit public spaces if you fear contracting COVID. No measure of mitigation on Disney’s part is going to save individuals from infection.

        1. Natasha

Agree more and here’s the other issue if Walt Disney World is so very concerned for our health and they swear that they’re following CDC guidelines then why in the heck are they enforcing these do-nothing muscle rules that we have to wear them outside and wear them everywhere we go even 100° weather with 100% humidity and sweating to death under these ridiculous do nothing masks but yet they go ahead and they don’t social distance anybody? So the CDC states that the mouse do not take place for people not social distancing so it seems to me that Disney only cares about Disney and the money that they’re making and that means increasing capacity in the park as long as everyone’s wearing their muzzle so basically it win-win situation for them because everyone still buys them masks and you still have to wear them in the park and they can increase increase capacity to 100% as long as you’re suffocating under the stoop I do nothing muzzles! You’re not going to follow the CDC rules with the social distancing and why are they following him at all that’s not how it works! Get rid of the stupid muscles outside and if the fear crowd is afraid of being invisible bogeyman demon virus and they have no business being in the same park we should just stay home with her muzzle safely strapped to their face is forever and leave the rest of us the hell alone so we can go to a theme park and breathe fresh air!

          1. Stacey

Heading to Disney in June and I wish more people would stop living in fear. This past year is out of control. Hoping Disney will relax the rules and allow the OPTION for those who don’t want to wear masks and don’t fear this nonsense.

  5. Eugenia

Pls make your complaints to Guest Services to avoid situations like these keep happening.

    1. Alex Gutierrez

I guess I just don’t understand this – if someone is that freaked out about being “near” someone for a minute-long ride, why on earth would you even be going to the parks? The definition of “close contact” is being within 6′ of a positive case for a cumulative 15 minutes.

  6. Sam

Good and get rid of masks. If your afraid stay home and let the rest of the world resume life.

  7. Jay

If people are concerned about being too close to somebody then they do not need to be going to the parks! Geez! Open up and turn fast passes on. The rewards are far greater than the risks!

  8. Deborah Knoll

Fill them up! If you are that worried about catching something, you are at the wrong place! Go to the beach, hike in the wilderness, go golfing with your family. A theme park is a petrie dish of germs. Take your vitamins and embrace it or stay away.

  9. Phoebe L Ho

Maybe I’m just new to this whole pandemic thing (only been dealing with it for a YEAR) but this, to me, might be considered kind of a step backwards, wouldn’t you say?

    1. BAD IDEA you don’t know how well the other guests handle the pandemic, hand washing using sanitizer etc. No thanks Disney

  10. Jess

Load the rides to full capacity. Skipping a row isn’t going to slow/prevent the spread. Pretend someone asymptomatic with Covid is in the front row. They sneeze while the ride is speeding down the track. Their mask is slipping. The WHOLE ride has now been exposed. Skipping every other row isn’t gonna save you. If you’re worried about being infected, don’t go.

    1. RobinD

I’m so glad that you’re part of the medical field to clear this all up for everyone. The CDC guidelines are to wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart, correct? It doesn’t guarantee you won’t be affected but it’s a guideline as the most preventative measure right now.

  11. No Mask Needed

I just don’t understand why people who are afraid of crowds feel like they should complain about crowds. It is quite simple, if you are not comfortable, don’t go. They should be loading the rides fully. Those who want to wear a mask to feel comfortable, do that. However, masks should be optional. The data is very crystal clear masks do not stop the spread. Unfortunately Masks have been virtual signaled to the nth degree and become a political weapon. If people want to wear them great, but let people have the option. The state of Florida does not require the park to have masks for their guests.

    1. Double-edged Sword

Alternatively, if you don’t want to wear a mask then don’t go. ??‍♂️

      1. AngelaZ

Ok, but you offer no response to his data about masks not lowering your chances of becoming infected? Great comment! Let me just add that masks are optional in Florida, a personal choice (as it should be). Are you worried about the crowds? It has been a little busy recently, but it’s nice! Getting back to the way it used to be, I don’t like crowds but I put up with it for Disney. I guess if you really liked Disney, you would put up with your chance of getting corona.

  12. John

Was planning a family trip to WDW this year. Based on what this article is saying and the “I don’t care, I just wanna have MY fun” attitude of many commenters, I don’t think it’s worth risking my family’s health.

    1. Rogue1

      Bye! Stay inside sheep!

    2. AngelaZ

I feel bad for your fam ):

  13. CommonSense

Load the rides, ditch the plexiglass and the masks. Lift the restrictions. Open the hotels and restaurants. Run the shows and nighttime events. Let’s go. Oh yeah, give us back FPP, EMH, DME, MB and AP options. Am I forgetting anything? If you don’t want cooties, better stay home.

    1. C

If you don’t want to be part of the solution to keep people safe during a pandemic then stay at home.

      1. AngelaZ

People are safe? What do you mean? It was a 2019 virus, its 2021, we are fine.

  14. E

Save money and stay home if you don’t like it.

  15. Janice

I have been here all week and they still space you every other row. I was here last October and nothing has changed they’re still distancing on rides. I have been to every park and almost every ride and it’s the same on all rides you social distance.

    1. Nancy

I was there a couple of weeks ago. FoP, Everest, Slinky Dog, RnR to name a few do not skip rows. On FoP I asked to be distanced and they have a room for that. On the coasters I asked for the front row.

  16. Scott

We were just at magic kingdom and Epcot yesterday today we will be at Hollywood studios and animal kingdom. This is simply not true. They still load rides with social distancing. For example pirates of the Caribbean it’s front row with guests, 3 open rows, the 2nd to last row has guests and the very back row is empty so you aren’t to close to the guests when it gets backed up in the boat behind you. Splash mountain want the same. Literally every ride is still loaded with social distancing.

  17. AP

If you are worried stay home. Your health is not any one’s responsibility but yours. Disney should check your cholesterol before you eat a chili dog or your diabetes before you have that dole whip.

    1. Melissa

You can’t spread diabetes or high cholesterol to other people simply by breathing near them. There’s a huge difference.

  18. Brian

We are cancelling our trip in October until mandatory mask wearing is eliminated. I can’t imagine spending those kinds of dollars until I can enjoy the park as it’s intended.

  19. Chris

We are here now and if there isn’t Plexiglass, they are spacing people out. Even when there is plexiglass, there are still spacing people out like at Rise of the Resistance, our party had our own ride vehicle despite there being Plexiglass.

Journey into.imagination with Figment, one party per ride vehicle and not every ride vehicle was loaded in our group of vehicles.

Shows like American Adventure, Muppets, etc. We’re groups of four people with rows blocked.

There is distancing on rides, now toy story, there were two people behind me, but obviously the ride vehicle design itself provides separation.

Honestly, everything feels safe, although it can feel a bit crowded at times because so many lines extend so far outside due to the distancing, once you get used to that and around it, it is fine, even on the days where reservations are sold out.

  20. Melissa

Can we talk about how Disney keeps quietly increasing park capacity and making social distancing impossible anyway? I’ve been four times since they reopened last year (August, October, December, and this past weekend), and yesterday at Animal Kingdom was just miserable! It was so busy and crowded that lines just to order drinks wrapped into backstage areas, and the Na’avi River ride was so long that it wrapped around a dumpster in a backstage parking lot. Really ruined the magic for me when you’re taken out of the actual theme park and made to circle around a dumpster in a backstage area. It wasn’t anywhere near this crowded before, even on Halloween and a week before Christmas when they were still running the rides nowhere near capacity.

I’ve been telling all of my friends and family that I felt safer going to Disney than a grocery store because Disney actually enforced mask rules and social distancing and limited their capacity, but sadly I think yesterday really ruined it for me and I won’t be back for a long time.

  21. Tanya

Just visited Epcot & Magic Kingdom. Social distancing still in place on all attractions making wait times frustrating! Heat (86 degrees) & sweating made mask wearing very uncomfortable & hard to breathe!! Wear disposable masks and change frequently to prevent illness from wearing a moist mask. ?
Park guests not permitted to eat or drink while walking impairing our water intake for day. Who has time to sit and drink a water bottle when one is rushing to get in line for next attraction? I like the idea of health screening prior to entry, no one should ever visit the park with thousands of other guests while sick. Hope this policy remains post pandemic. Additional cleaning of highly touched surfaces going on throughout the day. This procedure should also be common practice. Park hours should be returned to normal to allow guests time to experience parks without multiple day visits. Masks should not be required outdoors and rides should be to capacity. If you are sick or afraid, stay home while the rest of us live life!! I’m glad Disney is open but it’s time to move forward and get rid of the ridiculous rules!!

  22. Mike

This whole article is false, written by and (mostly) read by people that don’t even live here. I live an hour and a half away (where I grew up) and have been to the parks twice a week since January and on average, every other Sunday since September. They are still skipping sedating on ALL rides and have plexiglass on a lot of them. I don’t where you guys get your information but it’s getting old reading this garbage. I was at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot yesterday and nothing you said in this article about seating on rides is true.

How about concentrating on the snow where you live and stop spreading false information.

  23. Jimbo

No pleasing some people. They can be elbow to elbow grabbing toilet paper at Costco, then snivel about social distancing with their mask on at a fun park. I have an idea, stay home and we’ll go in your place.

  24. John Abraham

Here’s some advice to anyone considering a trip during the pandemic: don’t do it. I was there in November and it wasn’t worth it. Between the physical distancing, mask wearing, and plexiglass it’s just not worth it. On top of that there are no nighttime shows, multiple rides are still closed for covid, and many rides have bypassed pre-shows.

It’s just not the Disney experience with all of these concessions.

    1. Ak

Ha! I’ll wear a mask all day if it keeps the mass of people away. We were at Disney at the beginning of December and it was one of the best disney trips we’ve had. I’m at Universal right now and it’s great too. Getting crowded during the weekend tho.

  25. Rozalen Pober

There is something very wrong with you people who can’t seem to wrap their feeble minds around the FACT that we are in a PANDEMIC. Right…Let’s just bury our heads in the sand and PRETEND that people aren’t dying in horrifying numbers. As long as you SELFISH NARCISSISTS get to ride a roller coaster. Sickening.

  26. Ian

You can’t expect to go to a place like Disney and see the 6′ social distancing with the number of people they allow in to the parks. Just wait till they get the approval to increase capacity to 50% which for MK is 50k people. Wait times for rides are already long and the times we have gone, distancing in lines are spacious but add to the overall length. We like going during this time cause of the limited capacity and no fast passes. I wish they would get rid of FP lines moving forward but I know they won’t.

  27. Lisa

The plexiglass on some of the rides (Frozen, Millennium Falcon, Rise of the Resistance, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad, Living with the Land, Kilimanjaro Safari, etc.) is extreme overkill and completely ruins these rides IMO. I will not be back till these barriers have been removed. And, as someone who has also recently been to the parks, I can say that in my experience some rides absolutely were packed FULL, and other rides were not, so it obviously depends on the attraction, and I would assume that attendance plays a roll. PS, the amount of riders in front of me who pulled down their masks on attractions was disgusting and very concerning, and I imagine that these selfish individuals are now why every ride is covered in plexiglass. Stop being selfish, wear your damn mask, and practice some common sense so these barriers can be removed and we can all enjoy the theme parks again.

  28. Nanners

Just came from disneyworld I wish that Disneyland and California where open and also when someone was not following the rules cast members will tell them something. I felt very safe and I did like the social distance on the rides. When I was on line we did have people get to close but the cast members will tell them to keep 6ft apart from other parties.

  29. CC

My only concern while we were there last week was that the temperature checker touched the thermometer to our foreheads without cleaning in between guests at the Magic Kingdom entrance. Really strange!

  30. Nathan M

We have been going every 2-3 weeks since October and this weekend we were surprised to be loaded on Flight of Passage with somebody sitting right next to us. This is even worse than loading every row with people all facing the same way so you’re 2-3 week from somebody’s face.

Being less than 18 inches from somebody who I didn’t know was disconcerting and I won’t be riding that again until they fix this or the world is more normal.
