Being that WDW will not be 50 until Oct. 1 2021, they could certainly hold up and begin their anniversary officially on that date and then on through 2022, and hopefully by then we will be out of this mess.
The only downside to that is combining the 50th wit the holidays – but that could be fun!

Because they are broke. They did it to themselves with all of the over-the-top restricions. They will land in bankruptcy court and a chapter 13 restructure. Meanwhile, over at Universal………they are killing it!

Yeah, sadly I agree with you. They are doing their best to shoot themselves in the foot. It would be a good idea for them to announce extended 50th celebration for the next year. It would drum up more visitors and relive some pressure for the actual date. If special celebration was planned as 50th for a year and they advertised it they would have a chance of digging out of their financial hole.

Killing it is an interesting choice of words. Rather than create a reservation system to allow them to control park access and attendance they have a first through the gate system. In many cases, their guests do not find out the park is full until getting there. Killing it, indeed!

Why don’t you report real news rather than promoting speculations on what will or will not happen for the 50th celebration? I was around for the 25th. Other than the elaborately decorated Cinderella’s Castle and 25th merchandise, there was little difference from any other year. Magic is still magic, and Universal definitely doesn’t have it.

So this may seem like a really dumb question, but isn’t it called D23 because the company was founded in 1923, and so shouldn’t the centennial be celebrated in 2023? When they did 100 years of Magic, it was in 2001–100 years after Walt was born. So 2023 would be 100 years after the company was “born.”

    1. Not dumb at all! Yes, you are correct that D23 sites the beginnings of Walt’s company, however, 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of just Magic Kingdom at WDW. The celebration marks the birthday of Walt Disney World Resort and Magic Kingdom, and no other aspect of the company.

adding onto that 2023 is going to be another celebration year as confirmed by disney when they moved d23 to 2022 so the 50th can only be delayed so much

The WDW 50th should start on October 1st, and end on NYE 2022. The 100 year celebration of TWDC could then start on its official date, of October 16, 2023, and run through NYE 2024.

This way you’ll have 14 months of celebration, for 2 monumental anniversaries.
