The movies themselves may have done good at the time of their premiere, but that’s not the only consideration. Disney wanted them to replace all the prequel and original movie characters so they could use the new yet generically same characters and settings for all the other places where Star Wars makes its bucks, namely toys, live attractions, and other licensed merchandise products. That is what has suffered because of the poor quality of the movies in the realm of the expanded universe that surrounds it, the Fandom. Few actually care about the setting or the characters, not the same way they care for most of the original or EU characters from Lucas or Filloni which are beloved by comparison.

Personally I don’t think they need to reboot the movies, maybe re-edit them, but they can just keep the movies and TV universe separated, no reason why the TV shows and animated productions need to follow the movie timeline. They can totally have the New Republic and New Jedi Academy and it can follow the Thrawn timeline, there is no reason to have it mix with First Order nonsense.

So you’re one of those Filoni worshippers too? Were you also chanting “In JJ We Trust” back in 2015?

I agree with you, Kate. There was a large influx of cash in the beginning, but now nothing is selling. If you walk into a Walmart and go to the clearance section, you will see rows of Sequel action figures, and toys. This is their fear. Why did Galaxy’s edge under perform? Because people didn’t care about the setting. It was a bust.

I would still be surprised if they completely wipe the slate clean though. Like you, I believe they could simply “ignore” it and do new stuff. Who says they have to ever mention the sequel trilogy again?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. I haven’t chanted about J. J. and I don’t hate everything he’s done. Nor do I always agree with Filoni, nor did I imply I worshipped him anywhere.
And do you understand the difference between somebody that may have had faith in J. J before he had actually done anything with Star Wars before he was given the job and Filoni who has already done so? I doubt anybody was blindly supporting Filoni before he had even contributed something to talk about and compare.

  3. The last trilogy is good as it should be. So if they erase it won’t be a bad decision in my opinion. There is so much good content from the books and games if they had focused more to do it for the fans and not for the money they probably would have ruined it.
