We have reported on Disney rolling out mobile checkout options throughout their theme parks. This innovative way to shop is “pandemic-friendly” and will continue to be rolled out across both Disneyland and Disney World. So what makes this system so unique, and why should more retailers follow Disney’s lead with this practice amid the ongoing pandemic?
What makes this simple, yet efficient mobile checkout offering so pandemic friendly? It eliminates contact with the card reader which is a high-touch service. It also eliminates the time spent close to other people as long lines can often form at Disney World and Disneyland. As well, Guests can reduce contact with a Cast Member for checkout. All in all, this is method extremely convenient and can be seen as a safer option.
Disney’s mobile checkout service is truly a unique shopping experience. Only two conditions need to be met in order to use this service. First, you must have an account on one of Disney’s mobile apps either My Disney Experience for Walt Disney World or Disneyland app for the Disneyland Resort. Second, you need to have a card linked to that account. It’s a very easy set up for all Guests!
Upon entering a store you simply scan a QR code, grab a shopping bag and get to shopping! When you are ready you simply scan again with a Cast Member at the exit of a store and everything gets charged to the card you have on file. Simple, efficient, and cuts down on a lot of high contact and touch points.
Should more retailers adopt this mobile checkout? Absolutely! Many other retailers have their own shopping apps already that shoppers can link their cards to. Imagine being able to use this technology at the grocery store, or bigger retailers such as Target.
Disney has taken the opportunity during the ongoing pandemic to innovate for the safety of its Cast Members and their Guests!
What do you think? Could other retailers follow Disney’s lead and implement a mobile checkout process of their own? Let us know in the comments!
