As someone who is immunocompromised I see the point of continued closure, however, I also feel that come January 20th when we have actual scientific guidelines to go on that we can trust, the parks may then be able to implement even more to move forward with opening. I feel so awful for these employees. People don’t realize when they hear theme park employees are out of work that it doesn’t just mean a teenager operating a ride like their home parks may have. It means countless professionals who have put years into their careers. Pyrotechnicians, live entertainment sound techs, lighting and visual design techs, support personell, translators, advocates for guests with disabilities, ASL interpreters, on site nurses and doctors, onsite paramedics, onsite security officers, onsite fire personell, HR reps, chefs, actors, actresses, Imagineers who make the park even possible to begin with, structural engineers, contractors, gardeners, landscape planners, architects, guest experience creators, and so many more. This isn’t even nearly half a list of the various people laid off. Almost 20,000 people out of work (possibly more when you consider the amount of third party contracted local companies that provide the parks with certain services that are often family owned and operated). It’s sad to see. But the reason we are here isn’t because of the Governor perse, but more so because the governor has been given NO scientific aid from the federal government who is supposed to be there providing that guidance so these governors aren’t trying to man a sinking ship while the captain just up and steals the only lifeboat around and takes off. So, we need to keep pushing our congress to help our governors properly with actual scientific backing and allow that to inform us all. There are ways we can slowly begin the opening procedures and to allow for trial and error here. I know we need to be careful though because an error in this instance can mean the death of guests. It’s a tough balance I wouldn’t dream of being in the middle of whether park executives or government,

What in the world are you going on about? California has received plenty of aid, plenty of guidance, and is capable of finding their own if they don’t like what they’ve received. The CDC is issuing guidance daily, and all other states are acting on it.

But rather than take the reasoned steps all other states have accomplished (see: Florida’s parks), they keep the CA parks closed indefinitely. This has nothing to do with your President (like it or not) and won’t change 1/20/21 or any other time. Don’t pretend that Trump is the cause of California’s Government’s abject failure to take care of Californian’s livelihoods. Instead, start holding state governments accountable for State decisions. It’s really not complicated.

“Governors aren’t trying to man a sinking ship while the captain just up and steals the only lifeboat around and takes off” What is this nonsense? The Governor is the one sinking the ship!! Demanding that transmission rates be absurdly low before opening is what’s causing so much pain and suffering. We have to think this is absolutely intentional on his part, just “sticking it to the big corporations”, consequences be damned.

Very well said, Chris. Some seem to forget that we have a constitution that gives the states rights to their own destiny and the federal government is not allowed to intervene. As long as folks keep blaming the wrong people, nothing will change. Those in California only have themselves to blame for their current predicament. My husband and I had a trip planned to DL, but we had to cancel it all. I was looking forward to coming to CA to spend my hard-earned money. Oh well. We spent it in FL instead.

Did you notice that as soon as the tv networks proclaimed Biden as President Pfizer announces that their is a vaccine for Coronavirus. On 1/20, Newsome will reopen Disneyland so that Biden can take credit for it. You are right this virus is all politics and no science.

    3. Ofcourse it is 100% political at this point. With all the scientific evidence on the virus and showing almost every mask does not protect you, it is about making a population dependent on government. If you want to wear a mask, go ahead, but don’t force others. I have even canceled our 9 day vacation at the grand Floridian until disneyworld stops going woke and stops requiring masks. It’s a disneyworld rule at this time, not a mandate anymore.

    4. You are the perfect example of what should be done. If you feel the need to protect yourself because of your personal health, then go ahead and wear a mask all you would like. We quarantine sick people and restrict their movement, not healthy people. Nobody is going to force you not to wear a mask. But for those of us that have immunities or believe this is not as bad as government agencies and news medias are trying to scare us into Then don’t force us. And remember there are over 480,000 people a year die directly from cigarettes. And the government does not lock down a country for that. And it is twice as many as the Wuhan virus supposed death count.

Which part of that California has led the nation in cases do you not understand? Correlating poverty to a park being closed is spurious.
I do not see Disney leadership saying let us not give dividends and reinvest that money in health care and stipends for our employees. No the opposite is true where you see Disney laying people off to boost stock price.

Before you continue to demonize the governor look at scientific data at transmission rates like the state of Florida which are rising due to misguided policies.

You will soon be saying goodbye to Gov. Doolittle and replacing him with Gov. Iger.

Exactly Manny! Coronavirus Deaths per Million People: Florida 908, California 481. Yet everybody keeps using the “FloRidA pArKs aRe JusT FiNe!” argument. Science is wasted on some people.

And as far as poverty, these are the same Disneyland employees that had to fight hard to get a living wage out of Disney. They should all be doing okay (many even making more) with unemployment insurance for now (plus 300/week extra covid money — thanks Newsome). All while not risking their health over the public’s “need” for essential churros.

Remember what Newsom has done to your livelihood when he’s up for reelection in 2024.
