Premier Access is still, in my way, the perfect way to alienate people! You state how people feel nostalgic renting a movie from Blockbuster when they pay $29.99 to rent a movie. I won’t curse but I won’t buy a movie for that let alone rent when a few months later it is available for free (in lieu of a subscription) or on DVD. I’m in the UK and the live action ‘Mulan’ has just been released on DVD for £9.99 in my preferred store, £10 cheaper than the premier rental would have cost. People are staying in to watch movies because it is the safer option at the moment, but people are at Covid Fatigue levels. If I have the choice of a £19.99 rental price or a £5 cinema viewing (I don’t usually buy refreshments) I’m saving £14.99 thank you very much. I know a lot of people who have Disney+, I have it, but NONE of them rented Mulan, all either watched it bootleg, bought the DVD or are waiting for the actual Disney+ release. It will only have made money because of how high the price was.

I wouldn’t be against Premier access the positive is the consumer could choose to make the purchase or not. I think the pricing model for Premier access needs to change for it to be successful. Either A-customer pays a buck or two more a month on their monthly subscription and gets immediate access to Premier movies on Disney +, B-$29 price point is to purchase the movie as a digital download not tied to keeping Disney + or C- the price needs to come down $10 to $15 dollars. I don’t ever remember paying $30 US dollars to rent a movie.

I paid for a subscription for three years. I would rather see them in theaters or have them release straight to Blu-ray at this point than pay $30 to watch them when theaters don’t cost my family of two that much. This “premier” thing with a paid subscription service is a good way to further alienate potential viewers.
