Very talented and very pretty actress and love her voice but I don’t agree with this in the least and maybe my opinion doesn’t matter but I’m sure many agree this is ridiculous that they can’t her a role that suits her. Why does holly wood and Disney keep trying to reinvent their princesses? Ariel is very white considering where she’s suppose to be from why wouid they make her black? This nonsense also started with BLM which I do agree with but instead of creating her a. New role they hand her an old one of
A white character? If I were her, I wouid be insulted! If Ariel was black or Indian or another ethnicity and they gave the role to a white woman, people would lose their minds! So why is it that it’s ok the other way around? Talk about racism! Bottom
Line is Disney is trying too hard to be politically correct and it’s annoying. First this change, now getting rid of splash mountain! What’s next? Perhaps they should strip Disney of all its whiteness? This isn’t about be all inclusive, it’s about trying to please a small group of people screaming racism over nothing! The way to deal with it is not caving in and doing whatever makes these people happy, they need to stand up and have a back bone and say TOO BAD! How many black people you want to bet still ride splash mountain the way it is? And I will never call it anything else! I pray they get rid of this very stupid idea and ruining it to please a few self entitled cry babies! Btw.. Disney and his wife were very racist! Never invited one black Person to the opening of Disneyland! He would turn in his grave if he knew what Disney did to his legacy! My dad met his wife in Napa to fix her tv and she was a very snooty rude witch towards my dad! She only likes white people and my dad was Italian a full blooded wop and she didn’t like that!! So
Perhaps all three people screaming racism and want to see white princesses turn black than dont come to Disney at all for that matter. And no I’m not racist, just a realist and no I’m not a repub and I didnt vote for trump! I’m an independent that voted for Biden because I think Kamala will make a great president one day!
I think Halle Bailey is the best choice: she is very talented, she is a very beautiful girl with a great voice. Also she is a mix innocent and sexy. Wondeful face and great smile.
I think she will be the best live-action Ariel and the best live-action Princess.
Also, she is the most beautiful live-action Disney Princess.
Just came to read the expected, “OMG a woman of color is playing Ariel!” comments. Followed by the “No, I don’t have a racist bone in my body” comments – which is correct, of course. Your racism is deep in your soul.
Popping popcorn now, settling in a comfy chair, and waiting to see the rest of show.
p.s. to Dee – thank you for your beautiful comment. Fully agree with what you’ve said.
Lol, the little mermaid was written as a metaphor for Hans Christian Anderson’s unrequited love for another man, that despite his pain and sacrifices, society forced him to remain silent while he watched the man he loved marry another woman. The story is suppose to be a tragedy but Disney has erased the purpose and depth of the story to entertain straight audiences. And to top it off, Ariel is technically trans – The story is totally LGBTI, but Disney chose to give even the villain (designed on a famous drag queen) to a straight woman. They had the perfect opportunity to cast a trans or LGBTI actor, but chose not to. And if Disney wants diversity, where are the LGBTI princes and princesses? We have Mulan and Tiana, and Brandy was a great Cinderella, but apparently gays can only be sidekicks or villains.
Although I love that Ariel is a black actor, clearly an empowering choice for women of colour, why is the prince still white? Isn’t that more an issue? I thought the whole problem at the moment is white male patriarchy and white privilege. Clearly the cast choice for Ariel was merely a token to fit in with current popular trends (black lives matter) but doesn’t tackle the bigger problem of systematic white privilege. Why couldn’t Eric have been Asian or Latino? Or a woman for that matter… why not a lesbian spin on the story? Just saying.
oh paul you’re such a troll, just because people object to change doesn’t mean they are a racist. there are way more people who object to changing splash mountain then the “i’m offended” crowd like you. they object because they enjoy the ride the way it is, a lot of people have ridden that ride since they were kids so it has a bit of nostalgia for them. the same goes for movies that they loved as a child, they remember characters that they loved a certain way, and don’t want to see that changed in a remake. and I’m the same way, I’m a huge james bond fan, and there has been talk about casting a woman as james bond and I’m not interested in seeing it at all if they do that, does that make me sexist? nope, I’m all for a good female spy thriller so they should make one! they don’t need to ride the coattails of an existing franchise. after reading all your comments i have come to the conclusion that you’re just a miserable person, who is offended by everything, part of the “woke” crowd that must wake up every morning wondering what to be offended by, and just curious what letter are you LGBTQIA?
